- In This episode I pay a visit to Sean and his wife Sam to pick up an antique copper cooking pot, Finally get the AGA parts back from the being re enamelled in England, build the AGA and Start fitting the handmade oak Kitchen. Will we have it usable in time for Christmas dinner. Wait till the next video to find out later on Christmas Day.

My name is Michael Petherick and I live with my family at Chateau de la Basmaignee in north west France.
My brother and his fiancé bought this building with some inheritance money three years ago and we are slowly restoring it to live in, and run as a business.
It’s always a financial struggle to keep the place going and we have to work hard to keep our heads above water, but we love it and wouldn’t have It any other way.
When they knew that they were buying the château, my brother asked me if I would like to move over and take part in their new adventure... so I packed my bags, gave up my life in England and moved here to help bring this place back to life.
We do all the renovations ourselves including construction, decorating and collecting antique furniture that we buy cheaply to restore. Our goal is to fill the château with beauty and life as it once was.
I have a passion for history, art and all things old.
These videos are a series of stories about my life and experiences living in a French castle
I’ll be showing all aspects of life here, from renovation and DIY, to crafts and baking, art, daily life and a bit of fun thrown in for good measure. There’s much more to see and our journey is still just beginning.

Lost my son to a car accident last weekend and when I watch you and dad and billy and ryan and all of stephanie's clan I think of him because he was so gifted in construction, electrical wiring, and mechanics, he has 5 children now without a father.
I will watch funeral on Facebook because of corvid.
I only have one son left!!!
I will watch you all from now on to at least feel a little bit brighter!!!

The cottage is going to be amazing!! The aga is really quite cool. I had never even heard of it until Michael. I what a joy to see Kat. She is always a bright spot in the chateau vlogs.

The cottage is starting to look really lovely and has come a long way. It looked like a labor of love but lots of hard work by Sean and Michael’s family and friends. The true treasure here is the family unit. The chateau was the nucleus that brought it all together. His parents did a wonderful job parenting and they can see almost daily that their hard work paid off handsomely. The fact that they share this with others, especially with all the world problems this year, is a gift. Thank you. Have a very happy Christmas.

One of my new favorite things on TH-cam is watching Michael obsess over AGA stoves.
For the mulled wine: I would not let so much evaporate, because the boiling point of alcohol is a lot lower then water so by the point that much water is evaporated you will have near alcohol free wine!

Your Aga and kitchen cubbords are installed Michael! Looks fantastic already! ... ...and then ... I thought, but no how come..., THIS ladys voice has the exact same voice as Cat !! Hm... interesting ...(I thought it was your mother), till I saw your mom and heard talking 'this voice again.... then.... it clicked : "Ofcourse it could, it IS Cat!" Then I remembered you said going to Basmagnier bevor returning to England. (so, mystery solved). Michael, you did achieve a horrendous task! There where quite some setbacks (sanding and then taking the floor out, replacing the beam and more) but you managed, you have it done with the loving help from Shawn and your dad! The cottage is coming together really nice. Looks great! Have you thought about putting some tiles around the Aga to protect the paneling? So it won't get damaged when you cook.
Michael: you might want to consider making a curtain out of the gorgeous linen monogrammed tablecloth. I have done that in the past and the antique linen looks so appropriate as a window treatment. You could possibly flip the monogram over the window rod so that the monogram forms ... not a swag exactly, but a decorative ... thingy. You know what I mean. Words escape me at the moment. The cottage is beautiful already. I am so pleased for you that your wish to have Christmas dinner in the cottage has come true. You and your “team” have worked so hard . At last, heat in your cottage! Phew! what a fantastic job on the Aga. I had a Rayburn in 1986 after moving to a small holding in Wales, UK, it’s so good for slow cooking casseroles, jacket potatoes and for bread making, I miss that now. AWE MAN! So mad at myself, saw the Christmas one first and just saw this one. Anyway, I love how quaint and so love in Sean's & Sam's kitchen. Love it. Michael, I can't imagine how young you are and so passionate about the simple ways of life. So much about cooking and the auger, which I, being a non cook-American, don't really ever heard of an auger, or what the difference is, but Michael, you have taught me so much. Also, such knowledge of carpentry, etc.. You paid attention and that alone is secret to success and to the value of family. Cottage is coming out so great.

This aga reminds me of the one I cooked on for my Old English gent who was my friend in a English mansion...same colour but his was twice the size.
There’s a art to cooking on them..they make the most incredible toast on the toast rack.
