Trains at: Ashford International, HS1, 26/05/18

  • A very enjoyable afternoon spent at Ashford International situated alongside High Speed 1 where we see plenty of services from SouthEastern, Southern and Eurostar.
    Ashford International is really a junction station. This I because it has links to the South Eastern Mainline, Marshlink Line and High Speed 1.
    The station has gone through several different refurbishments with The first station being built in 1842 by the South Eastern Railway, the station was formally opened on December 1st.
    It remained the property of the South Eastern Railway until Southern took control in 1923, once this happened they then renamed the station Ashford Kent.
    Once British Rail was introduced in 1948 a lot of the former services were getting changed and newer ones introduced to meet with the growing demand of passengers.
    Eventually Network Southeast took over operations when BR privatised its network.
    The station went through a major redevelopment when the Kent Electrification Scheme went through its second phase, this resulted in two former bay platforms being converted into through lines and the former station buildings on the left and right of the railway were demolished and replaced with an over bridge that contains a booking hall, newsagents and catering facilities.
    The station eventually became known as Ashford International in the 1990's when the plans for the European Services were introduced by Eurostar. This in turn then brought 2 new platforms into the equation to split the regional and international services. Because of the importance of the station it means that passenger numbers have been increasing over the years with 3.7 million people use it last year.

    Passengers for st pancras international trains depart from platform 3 and 5 (Eurostar and southeastern highspeed services only).

    There is international platforms for pick up and drop off only for Eurostar services who are travelling towards the Netherlands

      Same here. The Class 374s are shit when compared to the Class 373s.

      What do you mean how is it slower? it has much faster acceleration and a higher top speed, locos are the thing of the past .

    There is a flyover for fast Eurostar services only towards the channel tunnel

      Southeastern highspeed go to St Pancras International. The regional trains go to Victoria, Charing Cross and London Bridge

    Glad to see that all the South Eastern units are in their new colours instead of the plain white. Must say those 374s do go mighty fast on that flyover.

    Enjoyed the video Jarred, it is odd to think the services to London Charing Cross/Dover/Ramsgate are now 8, later divide here into two lots of 4 coaches. Maybe the time it was the engineering works happening again.

    Really great mix, class 374 Eurostar is really amezing and really speed like i don't know what :D I don't understand everythink what you speak because my English is bad but this is not problem. Great video :)

      This is a great station in the UK to come to if you want a good mix of slow/fast trains. That's quite alight your English is perfect

      Trains that traverse through the channel tunnel need to be a minimum length for safety reasons, that's why the Eurotunnel trains are so long as are the Eurostars

    Great Film as normal. I had 9 hours at Reading on Saturday hoping to get a lot of 800's but got only a few. I did notice how squeaky there brakes were, some on par with the class 180's. Everybody i spoke to complained about how uncomfortable they are , i would have tried it for my self but the Tickets i bought from Banbury stipulated that its for 1 Train so i couldnt change at Didcot, the Parking wasn't included either so it was a more expensive day. Next day i will drive...

      Thanks very much I'm glad you liked this film, I'll be spending a lot of time on the GWML this year when I start my GWML series. So I have no doubt that I'll be doing plenty of journeys onboard the 800's. I've also been told that the trains are very uncomfortable

    On Saturday i went to Peterborough and i saw lots of class 66s for dB cargo gbrf and freightliner. It was great.

    Who likes that the old Great nothern 365 fleet some of them have gone to scotrail they look different I'll say 365 with scotrail em just don't look that great tho.

      Kai Footer I like them with scot rail. When they are at great northern they are a nightmare. They cause delays with them.

      There is a departure lounge located inside the main station building with border security before you go up to the platform :)

      I mean the driver did want to. scare you, Once my friends in Sydney were doing a meet up and in one of the Vlogs for the meet up one of the drivers that used the depot said that they did it cause they didn’t want to scare them

      It depends on the day you go, I think they are more frequent on weekends but as to how many pass in the space of an hour I would've thought roughly 4 or so, your best bet to find that information out is to check how many are coming into and out of St Pancras International
