I just discovered your channel, Frank, and it's fantastic. I'm a great lover of History - I was raised in Britain, where it's forced down your throat. Strangely, after traveling around the world, I learned to really appreciate History. I've ordered your book: The Next Realignment, and am anxiously awaiting its arrival. I find your quirky, positive insightful presentation and vision a welcome and needed resource. I'm writing a satire of the American Civil War, comparing the periods 1850-1870 to 2000-2024. I'll be happy to send along some samples for your perusal if that's appropriate. I plan on watching all your videos a few times, for their brevity and insights. Thank you so much for your efforts. Be well.

Many people see six different party systems. And the seventh occurring now.
    First Party System: 1792-1824
    Second Party System: 1828-1854
    Third Party System: 1854-1890s
    Fourth Party System: 1896-1932
    Fifth Party System 1933-1968
    Sixth Party System, 1968-Present
    And arguably the Seventh:
If the Seventh Party System has not started yet, the Sixth Party System would be the longest party system ever, surpassing the forty years of the Third Party System. However, even by those that do believe it has started, there is no consensus on the exact start date of the Seventh Party System.

You seem to be missing the Dixiecrats and Civil rights era shift.

If you tune into the rest of the series (or read my book) you’ll see that’s because I don’t believe there was a realignment there. I also believe that’s the scholarly consensus (although it is contested).

@@NoName-OG1I would argue that shift occurred over the transition from 5th to 6th party systems. The last real remnants of the “Dixiecrats” were either primaried out of the party or flipped to the GOP by the end of the 70’s

@@soyb3andorman528 you might not consider the Tea Party Caucus and later MAGA as a realignment- but they are. Arguably the GOP is relatively splintered as we speak…

History is created in the present. Speculation and hoping only hamstrings individuals and nations. Do right today, deal with the problems of today, then, and only then, we may be able to deal with the future.

I believe the next “parties” will be The Trump Republicans/American First GOP (populism) vs the social Democrats (socialist)

    • @warmflash7

Im not so sure about that. I think that the host is correct that a full realignment is coming over issues that have not been the leading issues previously. The Trump populism issue is on its way to resolving on account of Trump becoming decreasingly relevant and visible. There currently are issues cross over both parties with each party harboring people in both sides of the issue. Examples are nuclear energy (which will get more attention because of climate change) and biotechnology, which can help both with climate and health issues. The GOP is falling apart because of Trump, but the Democratic Party is an increasingly bigger tent that will be hard to hold together. It includes both supporters of advanced technology, including nuclear energy and biotech, and people who reject technology out of fear. The Trump populists already have embraced the antivaxx movement that used to be more associated with far left Democrats. It’s not much of a leap for the Trump populists also to absorb the antiGMO people and similar rifraff. I could see the Democrats outliving the GOP as a national party for one or two election cycles, then splitting into two new parties over the increasing role of science and nuclear energy and leaving the issue of high vs low tax and socialism vs capitalism in the rear view mirror, or as a minor issue debated within each party

I’d argue that the it’s more likely the socialist Justice Democrat types are going to get sidelined or fall into line ala the libertarian Tea Party Republicans in the wake of Trumpism. Likewise, ultimately going down as an intense flash in the pan. They are a bigger tent now which is increasingly tied in with big business who are perfectly willing to endorse progressive social causes but are less so going to back a socialist economic program. We’re probably going to see something closer to the dynamic playing out in France between Marine Le Pen’s National Rally and Emmanuel Macron’s Renaissance, or the March of the Republic as it was know until recently. A clash between down-scale cultural populism and up-scale cosmopolitan liberalism.

hi so your american flag is being displayed incorrectly... it's always 'blue to the left'...so whether it is hung vertically or horizontally the blue portion is always on the left side.... just turn it around....
