*So*... I think the fact that Avery struggled to break down his own riff (singing it slowly) but then could *easily* do it when Natalie told him to just sing it fast in his own way, proves that the best riffers don't actually "think" when they're riffing and are mostly going off of feel. I love "Breaking Down the Riffs", but I hope singers who are serious about getting good at runs realize it's not always about technique but fine-tuning your ear and your ability to improvise.
The idea is to learn how to exactly reproduce others riffs. Cause usually when you sing your own, you don’t need any directions you just chose your own style and your own way to express yourself, but when you want to reproduce the same riffs of someone else, sometimes isn’t so easy. That’s it. It shouldn’t help you to improvise riffs
I struggle to understand why he isn't more famous. He's young, tall (I didn't know he was 6'4"), handsome, has a head full of hair, can sing like he made a deal with devil, and his personality seems authentic and kind and humble. What's going on?
I don’t want to answer this, because I don’t want people dragging me, or thinking that *I* think this, but I IMAGINE that why he isn’t more famous is because 1) he oversings too much (too many riffs/very churchy) 2) He’s a little zesty 3) he knows how good he is, and is therefore difficult to work with. These are just guesses and do not reflect MY opinions. 🤷🏻♂️
Nathan Achilles I was about to comment the same thing! That's like one of the most complicated riffs I've heard considering the fact there's a sustained G#5 at the end. 😱
Nathan Alan if you have an iPhone, I'm not sure if android has it but download an app called Anytune. And then choose the song from your phone. You have the ability to but the song in any key you want and to slow it down or speed it up however you want. When it gets to her runs, slow it down to the point where you can hear each note individually and just practice. After a little bit, it's very easy. Not complicated at all. I did this for a little less than a half hour and it's no problem anymore. Hope this help you and others on the thread!
it's funny because i'm a guy and my comfortable singing range is in the third or fourth octave😂 Meanwhile I can't sing above the fifth octave which is just about until Air comes out of my throat😂😂
I almost lost my shit when I saw the thumbnail. A dream collab I had not even dreamed of. Loved it! Also thanks Natalie for being so unafraid to show that it's okay to make mistakes. Love you both. Still waiting for the day you'll both ascend to greater heights.
Chasidy Light Are you sure they come naturally? I thought riffs and runs can be taught because I have seen a few videos on TH-cam about them being taught using the pentatonic scale.
Honestly, I wanted to call you out and say " nah....this way is fine too...whatchu know about singing bla bla..." but I just heard your cover of Never Enough by Loren Allred and I saw your vocal prowess and now I'm like "Yup...she can talk". I heard it before I found this video to be honest. You're a beast yourself.
Seni Joshua because she's 100% right. Most singers would agree that runs are mostly spontaneous and improvised (aka "word vomit" 😂). The fact that Avery struggled to break down his own riff but did it perfectly when Natalie told him to "just do it like how you do it" kind of proves that
awesome vid Natalie! u almost got the run - just practice that last section slow about 20 times, like very slow and ull prob have it. One of the hardest ever runs man. He is incredible. And so are you.
this is one of those typical black gospel riffs its just one of those riffs black people just know how to do lmao in the history of breaking down the riffs ive never seen Natalie struggle with a riff
It would be an absolute dream come true if you did the riff from 3:42-4:01 in Ben Fankhauser's "To Kiss a Girl". The riff is just unreal and I know you would love it and it would be awesome for you to break it down on the show! Thanks!
It helps to sing this riff to not think too technically, if she just did it without worrying too much about being right, she probably would do it right.
Real Voice Some voices are just naturally more flexible than others. Natalie is extremely agile but she can't do every single riff. Hell, this the second time where she struggled to do a riff and that is fine.
can you break down the beyonce riff it's her on her beyonce world tour on song ego and she says "I don't need no beat I can sing with the piano" it sounds easy but can't get the notes correctly please 😩😩helppp!!!!!
It's totally insane because both of you did such an amazing job. You are truely blessed by Jesus-Christ and are the proof that hard labour always brings success.
OMG! Thank you for coming back with BDTR!!! I'm pretty sure that I've watched every single past episode, and I have always craved more! 1. You are absolutely incredibly talented! And 2. There is humor in the episodes, which I appreciate! Keep up the great work! You're amazing!!!! ❤️
No offense, but it was so comforting to see Natalie Weiss struggling with a riff.
Matthew Daniel Gordon Lol savage
Matthew Daniel Gordon lmao
Hahahaha right ?! Like she's human ! Lol cause she's literally flawless.
LOL it really was!!!
Matthew Daniel Gordon if u saw her tori Kelly pyt riff she struggled in that one too and I honestly loved it 😂
"sometimes you gotta loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooose to win again": my motto for riffing
Lara 🤣❤️🌹🙌🏾
kkkk aí é mais fácil. Ksksk
I love how she broke down the riff but still can't do it! Adorable!
Hi, Ms Cheryl!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Ms Cheryl I love you!!!!!!❤️
the shade!!
Damn this comment is shady
@@PhimbleG-d I thought the same thing lol

Its all improvisation and feel.

I'm not even a singer, but I totally agree with the statement. I don't think the voice can always be ' structured'...
Wow, well said
omg he is sooooo....fine? Oh lord so gooooodddddd.
Andrea PTX you met ptx omg wth
WI FI hii yes I met them few times ☺
came for thirsty comment. not disappointed
So true. And with that voice! And SO TALL! 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Andrea PTX thirsty 13 year olds.
Avery Wilson is a MASTER when it comes to doing riffs/runs
Avery Wilson is 100% the best male vocalist I've EVER heard. Without a doubt.
check out singer named b slade. this guy avery is awesome for sure.
lol you have low standards buddy
DeAndre and Luke James are pretty fire too
scaho Oh please INDULGE us with your "high standed" choices of best male vocalists.
Supanigga lol was that supposed to be a roast or what? Freddie mercury, Prince, Robert Plant, Stevie Wonder, Elvis presily.
he's just there like "Bi**h, you can't reverse-engineer soul"
raneanubis Bwahahahhaha hahaha yesssuhh!!!
FACTS!
Did Teacher just become Student?!?! This is the first time I have ever seen Natalie Weiss struggle with vocals.
LittleJ1576 yup😂😂
LittleJ1576 because it is her student’s own riff so it’s understandable
@@leophrixain’t her student
"I've been following him on vine, Instagram, to the grocery store" 😂😂😂
If Natalie herself struggling while doing it, how am I suppose to think that I can do it hahaha..
LOL that intro was so extra ❤️
😂😂😂 but the funniest I've ever seen
That last minute or so! Oh my god his range!
There are just no words.
James Foreman he full on belted out D5 with vibrato... And most of the singers struggle with belting out Bb4 without straining....
Hans Rassmussen I mean hitting that note not using head voice, I think we can forgive improper techniques 😂😂
lmao nothing about that note was strained or unsupported...stop that bullshit

This riff just isn't possible. That's the final decision. Bye.
Andrew Martin I have to agree lol!
Andrew Martin looooooool.
Ive gotten down the the first 31 notes.. with the same speed... but I can't get the last part coming down from head voice at that speed.. like yooooo
lol
This Riff is so hard. I've got the first few sections... I've been practicing for months😥
I'm not stopping tho...I will succeed
"It's like setting a book in every shelf"
OMG that wording
Omg is this a dream? Avery Wilson and Natalie Weiss togheter? This is going to be my new obsession for like months.
love you Natalie!!! an inspiration to my work
you should break down the riff from "Don't You Worry About A Thing," by Tori Kelly from the sing soundtrack!!
YESS I've been stuck on that riff in the middle of the song for FOREVER
Robert R which one? I can help you! The one after 'the changes you take your self throuuuuuuuugh' or the 'ohs'?
Nathan Achilles I was about to comment the same thing! That's like one of the most complicated riffs I've heard considering the fact there's a sustained G#5 at the end. 😱

Kelli Smith Omg thanks! I'll have to check that app out! It's sounds like something Natalie would use, haha.
His riffs are so effortless! I know it sounds goofy but I wonder if he could describe how it feels in his face and throat when he does them
Shit I thought I was good at riffs until I discovered Avery! My bloody god 🔥
5:13 YES NATALIE GET THAT Eb3!
that was such a stunning eb3, especially for a soprano

THE FACT THAT HE CAN JUST KEEP REPEATING IT IS SO AGGRAVATING AND AMAZING AT THE SAME TIME 😩😭😍😭 Natalie I freaking love this series
Yeah after watching this, unless you some near musical genius, I have concluded that this riff is unteachable.
If queen struggles with it, there's no hope for us plebeians lol
theUchiha. I did it
This run is doable but it has been proven that it won't sound as good lmao
Uchiha you can do this! use your sharingan. you're an uchiha
just learn it slowly, note by note
Inspiration😍
That Jawline tho AVERY .. COMEEEE THRUUUUU LOL also I think this goes without say you both are EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!
omggg yasssss your doing them again I was so desperate for another video please don't stop making these

Rt soca for most people it comes naturally
She needs to send me that list lol seriously...
I love the idea of this but I find it so much harder breaking it down! Riff's should just be like word vomit 😫😂
for half ass singers like me it's cool to hear it broken down...gives me at least a shot

Could you do Christina Aguilera's "Aint no other man", I have never heard anyone successfully execute that opening riff

Ejohnson TV it's very difficult. The slide isn't very hard but the arpeggio following it is very intricate and complex
FF2 FF2 She already did
