  • At Yale Law School's moot court finals on December 10, 2007, Enrique Schaerer argued on behalf of the petitioner in Medellín v. Texas. He did so before Judges Jerry Smith, Michael McConnell, and Reena Raggi. Enrique was assigned a difficult position -- one he disagreed with -- to argue for a "sweeping view" of presidential power. Not surprisingly, the judges on the panel peppered him with tough questions. They later awarded him and his teammate, Michael Krouse, the Potter Stewart Prize for best written brief and oral argument.

I'm an LLB student as well and I must say that moot competion such as this can be really petrifying and breathtaking at the same time but it allows students to be more practical and develop this life long skill. This snippet really is motivating and a big congrats for a job well done. Strong points of argument indeed :)

That is exactly what we go through in appeal matters with a full bench of judges. This is just a moot court scenario but kudos to the young man. Got some journey ahead of him.

Enrique was too good. He was calm by way of presenting with reference backing well the facts and issue with reliance to ICJ rules, rules, procedures and UN laws. The judges came down strong and I should say brutal. Well to do lawyer in the making. Enrique is assisting the court well and these judges are not giving him the chance finish his line.
