There is a lot to learn in this song. I really like the mix of rhythms- even a half time on beat played by drums- all linked by rumba clave. Kind of like merengue with timba on top. The bass line is really modern-centred around a really cool riff. Lots of ghosts notes drive the line forward (the ghosts are played on the same string as the sounded note with muting done on the left hand). Thirds and tenths used for adornments. The end of the song is a real surprise with the bassline playing in unison with the horns.
The bass was recorded straight into Ableton with no effects. No quantization, straight off my fingers and into PC. Strings and set up just as the bass came out of the box.
