Neil has the BEST sense of humor. He kills me with the way he'll just say something real straight, not hinting or giving any indication that he's being humorous, but once in a while you'll see him give a sly little smile off to the side when he's finished what he was saying. Its a dry sense of humor but he just slays me with it. His eyes give him away to me. They have a sneaky little twinkle in them, like he's just waiting to see who picks up on what he's saying, who got it that he was being funny. He just makes me laugh out loud. And I love the sly, little smile he'll give sometimes. He's so cool. So honest and true in his words. He explains the way he feels or does things so well. There's not much filter between what he thinks and what he says, which I LOVE. He's just my hero, idol, rock God, perfect musician, perfect human being, my absolute EVERYTHING! I just LOVE him, no matter what.
And I totally LOVE Tim Roth! He's an insanely talented actor. I love every movie I've seen him in and I think I've seen them all. He had great chemistry with Neil. He was just cool, unpretentious, truly interested in what Neil was saying. Asking pretty good questions that got thoughtful answers from Neil. They seemed to get along really well. You could tell Neil was relaxed and not bored by Tim's questions. I felt he was very at ease and comfortable with Tim. Kuddos to Tim, for that is not a state easily attained with Neil. There are only a f ew interviews I've seen of Neil where he is into the interview and enjoying his interviewer. Tim Roth is awesome. What a great idea it was to have him with Neil! I really enjoyed it. One of Neil's better interviews.
What made this interview so great was the connection between Tim Roth and Neil Young. As always Neil has an interesting perspective on life and his music. He refuses to become an old fart.

It was always like this. There is a strange polarity regarding attention. On the one hand, people seek attenion from others and this is considered to be shallow. Some lone mystic attempts to focus their attention in order to gain inner knowledge. The phenomenon of music is a mirror of consciousness, and by it's very nature is designed to capture your attention and not to bore you. The reality is that we all do these things at different times.
Love this! One of the more "lit up" interviews I've seen of him in a few decades. Prob the laid back way Roth did the interview opened that up. Very cool.
Pokey Soggybottom I agree. It seemed much more conversational & genuine than many professional interviewers, but I found it very effective at drawing Neil out of his natural inclination to keep things hidden. Neil seemed to enjoy the interview too, if I'm not mistaken.

Absolutely.... I've written songs, good ones, I believe and am told the same by people who've heard them ( see for yourself by searching TH-cam for some of them under the name, Allus Cats), and I have played in bands all my life--in clubs and some large venues, too, and what Neil says about the many aspects of writing songs and performing is completely accurate and true. And...a "control freak" is what you have to be because 1...YOU are the only one who has that right, and 2...there's no other way for you to truly and honestly share with people the original feeling behind what you've created. But then beyond that, keep in mind that in some rare cases there can always come a time when someone else can contribute to what YOU have created, and you have to be honest enough to let them, as long as it's real on their part, and if you agree that it's contributory and doesn't conflict with the feel of the song. Nothing, however is 100% perfect, forever except in the creator's mind, body and soul. It's doubtful (not out of the question) that Neil will ever collaborate on a song with another writer...but there may come that day when he may want to if he feels it....
Very few Very true. I've had life circumstance situations where I've interacted with many, many of these people for decades. Neil is such an iconoclast & autodidact. Probably Tim too, IDK, only seen him in his films. He goes from very good to brilliant. He was in a lesser known indie film with Julia Ormond cally Prisoners, I believe. It was excellent.

I am not believing my eyes! I absolutely adore Tim Roth as an actor. He is definately priceless as an actor, but now I am equally impressed with his interviewing style. Neil seemed very comfortable with Tim and that's not always how he's reacted to interviewers. For a long time, Neil didn't talk. He avoided interviews like the plaque. Slowly tho, Neil started to talk to us. And it takes a HELL of a person to connect to Neil and get him to open up honestly and really speak to us or else he'll tune out and give us blah blah, just to get the interview over. Obviously, that is not what's happening here with Neil and Tim. I am living this.
Interesting that Neil Young has epilepsy and that Tim Roth played Vincent Van Gogh who had temporal lobe epilepsy. They really seem to hit it off, esply after when Tim went off script with those stupid cards & turned it into a true conversation.

I agree with Neil " the kids have the power to do it and just go berserk " I think about this every time there is a mass shooting at a school, the Government doesn't care and nothing will change unless the kids take control of the situation. the kids should all just stay home from school and not return again until weapons of mass destruction are no longer available . Greta Thunberg is right with what she says and she has my full support. I have mentioned her in my new book to be published this summer. It is entitled Earth Spirit: Saving Mother Oceans. Neil Young gets included too, as a musical mentor of mine, and as a protest singer who has kept on protesting!
It's too late and the world will eventually swallow us whole. It's great to have all this technology to ignore the inevitable though. I'm not disagreeing with the effort, but it's really futile at this point. Take a look at the A-hole who initially responded with idiotic banter about "elites", yet his counter point only serves to protect the elites who benefit from humans being wasteful to begin with.

The real value of this interview are Neil’s humorous responses because he can’t believe the truly ludicrous questions that the interviewer had been force-fed, didn’t understand himself and, apparently, hadn’t even bothered reading before starting. So, it turns out an interesting interview because its such a train wreck.

I agree with Neil " the kids have the power to do it and just go berserk " I think about this every time there is a mass shooting at a school, the Government doesn't care and nothing will change unless the kids take control of the situation. the kids should all just stay home from school and not return again until weapons of mass destruction are no longer available . It's the only way to get it done .

This would have went better if Tim and Neil had had a smoke before hand...forget the notes and written questions, let's smoke and talk. I like both these men, and Neil is keen to talk, but I feel his frustration at points, but the interview get's better as it goes on.

Union laborers around here get paid 40 an hour. Actual skilled labor, a welder like myself for instance, make anywhere from 60-120 an hour. I get paid better than my masters degree holding brother.

I wish that Neil would get in touch with a really good nutritionist who will explain to him that eating a high carbohydrate diet is not going to help him with longevity I heard him speak one night out he eats a lot of carbohydrates for his stamina and I guess it has some value for some people for a small window but eventually it's the start of the end from what I understand about eating high carbs
He specifically said that he eats carbs before performing to give him energy for that night. It makes perfect sense.
