My father said that there was almost a civil war in Sydney in the early days don’t know how true that was he was born in 1914. Do you know of any photos of Lavender Bay in the 50s I spend a lot of time there as a child staying with my aunty Noreen
Thanks so much for posting these amazing pictures. It brings back memories and a little insight of familiar areas in Sydney that I have not seen before.
I like to think there is more to Sydney than the harbour, the beaches and the CBD itself. It’s the immense spread that streaches over to the blue mountains out west, to the Hawkesbury to the north, to the southern highlands and the Illawarra down south. I lived in Earlwood then Concord, Homebush West and then Macquarie Fields. As the demographics shifted along with the real estate prices we of the blue collar contingent got forced further and further away. Oh well it’s a Sydney thing after all.
Thankyou I enjoyed this. Grew up in Sydney in the 50s and 60s and photos brought back memories. My parents walked access Sydney harbour bridge when it first opened and my mother swam in Bondi beach as a teen
When I see picks like that .... the first thing I ask myself is ... where was the cameraman?? ... perhaps a hot air balloon... I think not ! ..... perhaps a bit of film b/s .... Oh yes I see it now !
Yes @anthonycole1684… Yes real men doing real men’s clever work… and not a whiff of woke… wow to live in those days now… fantastic collection and enjoyed the pic of Wynyard Park… I worked opposite and remember going to the opening of Menzies Hotel with my Dad… treasured memories 🎉❤

Thank you
Sydney had lovely architecture once upon a time.
Now we have Meriton apartments!
Probably the only time I will ever get to see Australia is on TH-cam
Thanks Robin!
‘Eternity’ was also written in white. I think he used whatever he had. I remember seeing it often.
RIP Arthur Stace
The photo at 1:19 I swear that is my late Grandmother and my Aunty (her dughter).
WOW fascinating i can't envisage how these men built the Harbour bridge back then. 16 men died.
Yes, incredible how they built the bridge!
Look at those workmen way way up in the air working on the harbour bridge with nothing to protect them from falling
Those were the days before safety protocols...
