How to repair a torn tent floor or fly

- Tents are expensive pieces of gear. If you accidentally get a tear in the floor or fly there is a simple method to repair it.
This method is suitable for straight tears that can be aligned with tape. Holes? Well they are a different story!
Repair ought to be the 4th "R", just as important as Reduce->Reuse->Recycle. No reason for access to goods and services to necessitate a disposable culture.
We've done this on several tents, but I don't think ever with the double-sided technique you showed. Very helpful!

i just made a very large repair with the seamgrip. It's easy to use, and the repair seems quite sturdy.

The SiliNet sealer is glorified silicone sealant, it is a bit thinner than the big caulk tubes you get at the hardware store. When dealing with a silicone impregnated fabric (like on my Hilleberg) you need to use something that will stick to silicone.
If you want to use regular silicone adhesive you could thin it out.
Something I did was to get an extra bit of fabric of the same make and colors of the outer and inner tents. I use that as a patch.
SiliNet is nice to have in your repair kit. It also can take care of that leaky seam
thanks! ill be doing this to a tear in my canvas ice fishing tent using fishtank silicone. i was going to patch it with epoxy and a patch but this is better!

Silicone is spread with an ice cube without sticking to your fingers. I don't know if this glue is silicone, but you may try it to see if it works?

@sniegmouse Hi sniegmouse - have not tried it on Goretex but it would be worth a shot as the components are not too expensive. Hope your tear is not too big and good luch with it. - Frank
Interestingly saliva stops silicone sticking to fingers unlike water.

ive used seem grip to help hold my old dome tent together and it is some great stuff. i was wondering if you knew of a good way to repair a torn sleeve that the poles slide into. i was going to try a patch inside the sleeve and the seem grip on the outside but i think with the poles sliding in and out they will eventually pick at the patch and make a not so very clean reapair. any ideas?

How do you repair large tarp on bottom of tent? A foot went through area and it is tearing up to 3 ft. long by 7 in. wide.
I HAVE A LEAKAGE FROM THE FLAP TOGGLES CAN I USE THIS METHOD TO SEAL THE LEAK? AND WATS THE GLUE THAT U USED?

Anyone tried to repair a large 600mm tear in a flywire screen on a tent. We're considering buying a tent but this rip concerns us. It's near the zip - so not sure if this would work under pressure. Any feedback or similar repair info appreciated.

stupid question, but is the silicone sealer the same sort of sealer used in bathrooms etc?
Andrew James Hi Andrew, I suspect it is special light weight silicone. jay is away on holidays so I can"t ask him.
You could have a crack with normal silicone, just use it really lightly. Let us know how you go.
