Greta Van Fleet comes from a woman who lives in their town named Gretna Van Fleet. They loved the name, asked her if they could adapt it to Greta for the band, and she said yes. The rest is history.
Josh is the vocalist and is the oldest by five minutes. Jake who plays lead guitar is his twin. Sam on keyboard and bass is the younger brother. Danny is the drummer and was a good friend of Sam when he was invited in. They were still kids pretty much. They ALL are astoundingly talented.
have been following the band since 2017 and while I love the new stuff, "black smoke rising" is still one of my favorites from them. it has a totally unique yet familiar sound and it's almost mind-blowing to think that they wrote this when they were all teenagers! i have a feeling it will age well and take a place among the classics.
Seen them twice here in England and for a 3rd time next year. The 2 twins are the Lead Guitarist and the Singer. The Bassist is the other brother but a couple of years younger. The Band is named after an Old Lady from their Home town in Frankenmuth, Michigan.
Just discovered this channel today. In my heart of hearts on music taste I should be 65 but I’m a millennial (truly the 90’s where still a great time to grow up)…like Greta Van Fleet there’s a lot of great music out there you just have to hunt for it, go to music festivals…you can’t just find find it on the radio anymore
See, I went to see the Metallica show here in Brazil yesterday and the opening band was Greta Van Fleet. I had NEVER heard of them 'till that moment and man, o man, I was amused. The ver first song made my jaw drop. Now I'm just here, in TH-cam, hearing every song and interview. They're amazing!
🥰🥰GVF🥰🥰. Jake, guitarist & Josh, lead singer are the twins. Sam, on bass, little brother & Danny, drummer, their great friend! Please, react to more of their beautiful music!!!!
@@terribongers2465 sorry I didn't mean just recently I meant when I watched this episode of snl was the first time I ever heard of greta van fleet. Iv know about them for a few years now.
@@terribongers2465 yeah I have actually, flew out to another state just to see them. Was one of the most worth while things I have ever done. Can't wait to see the next concert!
I was introduced to Greta Van Fleet by my son! The audience at their shows is probably 2/3 below 30 and the rest mixed (including quite a few old guys and gals!).
Oh my lord - I just subscribed. I relate - born in 63 - loved Zebra, Triumph, etc and it’s nice to not to have a blank stare hit me back upon mention of these names. Really enjoying GVF’s music and the Old Men Reactions. 👍
There's been statements like "uhh, they're just like Led Zeppelin, what a copy-cat act" every once in a while ... but you know what: If you have a voice worthy of being compared to Robert Plant - it would be a shame not to sing. If you're a band that can arrange songs that get called similar to LZ - it would be a shame not to perform. I can't relisten them often enough, what a group!
I absolutely love these guys! How refreshing to get something old & something new, blues & depth, words that come together that make you feel! Great review guys 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
Yup, as soon as I heard them, old band names hit me like a bag of skittles in the face, Robert Plant, super tramp, Roger Daltrey, Getty Lee, and so on. With instrumentals from Alman Brothers band and the like.
I'm 60 and first time I heard this song on local radio I was blown away! Then I found out that the band/singer WASN'T a gal but instead these were boys from my home state of MI, and Frankenmuth was a destination/stop of MANY college road trips! These 3 kids grew up on the vinyl collection of their parents. Josh has such a voice and scream for such a little fella!
I've been following these guys since 2016 they are incredible live there are so many better live versions to the song than this I wish you'd please go back and do a different one I'm really glad you like them real guys playing real music on real instruments with 0 Auto-Tune
Zebra =Randy Jackson. I wouldn’t have drawn that comparison but now that he mentions it, I can see it. If you haven’t heard Zebra you need to check them out. Cheers!
The Saturday Night Live performances were very awkward. Josh, the lead singer, looked incredibly nervous. These guys have a ton of TH-cam live stuff and it is worthy of a look.
Yeah, they’ve grown leaps and bounds since this performance. Honestly I think they did them a bit of an injustice by reacting to this early video. Josh sounds waaaay better now. It’s really not even close. I saw them live this year and I was blown away.
Zebra is still together it is nice to see real rock still alive a shame their is not more today musicians doing real rock.. 👏GVF i know GVF get a compared allot to older artist I do not mind music goes in cycles like clothing i am just glad they are keeping the old sound alive and maybe get more young people liking it and maybe have the young people check and learn of the older artist and bands that influence GVF to get their sound .. that is the only way to keep the music alive and going years from now
I really wish people wouldn't pick this performance to react to and introduce someone to the band. Honestly, it's one of their worst. They were all so nervous about being on live TV, Josh especially, and you can hear the tightness in his voice. He normally sounds so much better than this.

it's a great band name...
Ya dude, they're getting huge. The Battle at Gardens get is #1 in North America for Hard rock/metal sales for 2021 new releases.
They deserve it they’re so talented and also growing together as 1
honestly one of the best albums i’ve ever heard so i’m happy to hear that 😩
Yet never even got a Grammy nomination … sad really

Sorta has a Triumph vibe on this song.

Nice! Can’t wait. I hope you do some from their new album. It’s really an unbelievable arrangement of music. Masterful.
im only 27 and i feel old but watching your reactions makes me giggle like a child.
They have progressed a ton from this performance. They’re new album is great
Definitely need to hear their newest or the live at Red Rocks!
They've just released a new song: Meeting the Master
They have already won a Grammy
Josh's got "THAT".

HUGE fan since 2017! I just turned 70!
Its pure Joy.
You should check out their live performance of “age of man” at the red rocks amphitheater, it’s unreal! Please react to that! Love your videos!
Great Zebra reference!!! Saw Zebra in clubs in the late 70's and 80's
This is my favorite song by them! They come from a small town in Michigan, I live about 30 minutes from them. Their home state is so proud of them!!
I remember viewing this episode of SNL with GVF. They were still teens in this video.

3 brothers plus the drummer is their best friend.

The guitarist and singer are identical twins...the bass/keyboard player is the brother!
I think people get the brothers mixed up because Sam and Jake have the same hair and look and Josh is up there all curly headed. 😀

5:05 When old jazz musician realised that even with the standart bar chords you can produce great music... :D

The fact that he's dressed like a lamp shade from an old lady's house is pretty funny also

Gretta was a woman in the town they lived in. Its how they named the band. Look it up
This song in particular reminds me A LOT of Rush.

If I remember correctly, Josh was battling a bad cold at the time of their SNL performance....he was afraid he was losing his voice.
@@emptynestmom1479 that makes sense. This is definitely not the best performance I've seen of theirs, or of this song.

you should check some lady gaga, she goes from pop to rock to jazz, it's incredible!
I love the live duet she does with Bradley Cooper. I think the song is called ‘Shallows’
Style act of Roger Daltrey voice like Jon Anderson of Yes intonation bit like Plant imo
I'm 65 & a big fan. Singer sounds like Getty Lee of Rush.
It's awesome Family
Theatrics of Queen, Band sounds like zeppelin, and he sounds like plant and geddy Lee depending on his mood
Fun stuff!!!
I really want a black smoke rising vinyl but cant get my hands on one
Zebra reference, unbelievable!!!
Crazy how the guitar player and the singer are twins while the bass player is their younger brother LOL
I'm as old as a dinosaur and when I listen to this band at times I hear Rush and Led Zeppelin.
❤️❤️❤️
I believe they're all brothers from Detroit area, could b wrong
Cool thing us they're all brothers so cool mom. And nobody cares about real music no more witch is sad. Keep ot alive
this is awesome Gretta van fleet is a modern legend, also totally random but my dad has the same air conditioner? mhuahahahahaha
Lol
React to the Silk Sonic ALBUM!!!!
Love the motown vibe on that.
I believe the name of the band comes from their Dutch grandmother
nooo they knew a woman in their hometown named Gretna Van Fleet and just removed the N to avoid confusion because they figured people would say Greta
Wait until the summer's gone
Zebra
