There's a hierarchy in Hell. Imps and Hellhounds are considered the bottom of hell's society. Sinners rank higher, but other hellborn like Stolas and Charlie from Hazbin are above them.
It has nothing to do with them being hellborne. In fact most hellborne rank really low in the hierarchy. It's more about their social status. Like Charlie is Lucifer's daughter so of course she's going to rank really high. Stolas is nobility so of course he's going to rank high too
@@Ashurman666 Societal levels do play a role, but goetia have access to magical and innate power and they cannot be killed by non-angelic weapons. Hell has a societal hierarchy but a chunk of that hierarchy is based on physical traits that their species are born with, not just financial or societal.
@@grey8288 Kind of. You can argue that, say, the Goetia have innate power due to their position in society. As for innate magic, kinda debatable since we've seen that Stolas is pretty much useless without his Grimoire. I do agree with you on the non dying part
@@Ashurman666 Um no? Where have you seen that? Stolas is not useless without his grimoire. He only needs it to memorize spells and I can only imagine there's a LOT of them in there. His actual power doesn't come from the book but from the stars, his domain aka the very cosmos he guards. He just needs the spellbook to perform his duties in service to hell once a month. How exactly that all works we don't know yet.
But it is a fact that the Ars Goetia were born powerful magical entities and therefore are high up in the food chain. Higher than Overlords, who are in the end still sinners. The 72 lesser keys of Solomon each command legions and as demon nobility keep the commoners in their place. In the Hellaverse rank does in fact equal literal power. Viv confirmed that sometime ago. Plus, if that were not the case the Goetia would've been overthrown by now. So, no. It's not just social status.
@@Goikuchan Where have we seen that? Season 2 episode 2 "Seeing Stars". He HIMSELF says his powers are greatly diminished without his grimoire. Sure he has innate magic but the fact is, he needs his grimoire to use it or at least to take full advantage of it. Also if you look at it one say, power and social status are the same thing.
I loved this episode:
- We learned more about Millie.
- Transgender representation that was portrayed naturally and didn't overshadow anything else.
- Another great villain.
- Lots of character development for Moxxie.
- Very well animated fight scenes.
- One of the few times the violence in this show has been played for drama instead of humor.
- Sets up an ongoing story arc.
It was the start of when the episodes started getting really good

@@destinydm7706 You can tell by the horns and hair. Imps that are born male have thick white stripes and white hair, while those born female have thin stripes and black hair. You can see Millie's sister has black hair with white roots because she dies her hair. That way they can make background characters obviously trans without screaming it on the rooftops.

Blitz needs Stoliz’s spell book in order to travel to earth. That’s why Blitz said he might as well go with Stolitz to the festival since he couldn’t take out hits for clients even if he did stay behind.
Stolas. Stolitz is the ship name.

@@akaneshio6406 ngl I don't think seeing the pilot is that necessary, I think he and a lot of people get weirdly confused over how this world works just generally speaking. I can't think of anything in the pilot that doesn't get properly explained in the series at some point (though I could be forgetting something) but there's just some things people get really confused over like the distinction between hellborn and sinners, as well as the idea that hellborn would *want* entertainment or have families.
@KalinTheZola yes but the questions he has now would've been already answered. He now needs to wait till season 2 for example to find out about things that happened in the pilot, which is just not great because it's frustrating to see someone confused over smth they should already know..
It's ok to be confused with the hierarchy, I had to search it up to just make sure, but for example he didn't realize Milliy and Moxie were married?! And other stuff like that

Striker instantly became a fan favorite villain for many in the HB fandom, Especially because he was voiced by none other than the ever talented Norman Reedus the same actor that played Daryl Dixon on "The Walking Dead" And of course it was also interesting to see Millie's parents for the first time as well. In fact every time I see the part at the end where Moxxie defends Millie from her parents, I can't help but feel proud of him because there comes a time in every married mans life when he's gotta stand up to his judgemental in-laws.

Two steps actually. The Sins are above the Goetia. Three steps if you count Charlie and Lilith being a lower rank than Lucifer
@@Ashurman666 I think it's easier for people who are new to the shop if the steps are as simplified as possible. Sins (including Lucifer + Lucifer's family), then high-ranking demons like the Goetia, then sinners (including overlords), then low-ranking demons. There are of course power dynamics within those blocks, but it's easier to keep track of the structures if they are simplified.
@@helenanilsson5666 True but while Lucifer is a sin, he's also king of hell so he should have his own separate rank. Same goes for Orverlords and regular sinners. We can still keep it simple by going like this:
1)Lucifer and family
2)Sins
3)Goetia
4)Overlords
5)Low ranking demons

Well Stolas during episode 7 clearly shows that he cares with the "We could just talk, or watch a movie". Blitz always gets on my nerves because he can't see this (I am like blitz, not the same trauma but we have the same issues), like I get his perspective but for god's sake, blitz open your eyes and talk to him. Literally all he needs to do is ask "do you love me?" To get the question answered. Blitz however doesn't show any interest in Stolas, it is extremely sad honestly because Stolas is the best and deserves better then this.

Striker was such a badass in this episode. Stella really has no chill confirming a hit right in front of Stolas. Millie's sister Sallie Mae is trans and you can tell by the stripes on her horns since female imps have thin stripes. Striker's gun was made by Carmilla from Hazbin and that did not click until I watched it again
Blitz hates himself so much that he can't fathom the fact that someone would ACTUALLY care about him. He genuinely feels like people like Stolas have their own agenda and thats why he is so involved in Millie and Moxxie's relationship aswell to the point of it being inappropriate.
It's never explicitly said in the show so even though it gets more obvious people don't tend to understand how deep his hatred runs and therefore don't understand many actions and choices blitz makes throughout the series.
Agree and honestly, the more we see him, the further we get to know him and his reasons. Hell, we saw stoles and his reason why he's so unhappy all his life.
Also, the imps from the ring of wrath struggled as well, hell, striker also talked about how his hatred started when he lost what he once had in his life..but that's what I read from his Wikipedia.
But hey, who knows, plus Sally's side story why she chose her path and what her decision becoming a trans.
Plus, we see how blitzø went through after the incident happened at the circus, he blamed himself cause of what happened to his mother.
You severely underestimate how illogical inferiority complexes are. It's really obvious from an outside perspective that Stolas cares, but you've got to keep in mind that Blitz is only seeing the bad, and any good he sees as roleplay or manipulation. Stolas talks very condescendingly to him, refuses to call him his name, a thousand little boundaries that are crossed and ignored. Honestly I would think it was fake too
I think some ppl have a hard time looking at things from the perspectives of an inferiority complex, but here's a lost of things that could be very easily seen as disrespectful or insulting:
- "You are so *cute* when you're serious"
-"it shouldnt be lend out to *itty bitty imps* like yourself"
-Constant baby talk
-"Sexy *little* one over there"
-diminutive baby names instead of his real name even tho he constantly shows he doesnt like it.
-The only times they talk Stolas is overly horny
-EXTIGUISHING A CIGAR ON HIS HORN??
-Pinching his cheek like he's a child
And im sure im forgetting many. But yeah i see both perspectives cus neither is doing it on purpose, it's just massiive miscomunication issues...

She's great trans representation, it's never brought up, she just is allowed to exist and is treated like anyone else. We need more of this kind of rep.

I love that the voice actress for her has a hand in writing her, not saying cis people can't write trans stories, but it's great to see the team allowing a trans voice and POV to develop the character. It really shows!

Sallie May (Millies sister) is trans AND voiced by a trans actress! AMAB (assigned male at birth) imps have larger, thicker horns with black and white bands that are both thick, and they have white hair. But hellborn don't seem to care if an imp is trans, and many imps are comfortable being identifiable as trans while their genders are still respected. Many do dye their hair, like Sallie, and you can see her hair in dyed black like an AFAB imp but her roots are coming back white. AFAB imps have smaller, narrower horns that are mostly black with thin white strips and their hair is black.
Size of the horns doesn't matter. Both genders's horns come in all shapes and sizes. What matters is the white stripes and the color of their hair.
I love how inclusive hell is, overall the queer representation in Vivzies work is great. Sallie Mae is one of the best trans representation I've seen in any show, especially in that new short.
The facts the horns and hair is the only way you can tell but no one in universe don't mention it, making it mostly a way for the fans to know if they're attentive enough. It's subtle but effective, I love it.

I doubt everyone is cool with it considering how Moxxie's dad has weird assumptions about homosexuality, but I also feel like the majority of imps just don't care. We just don't really see a lot of imps or hellborn speaking out against it.
There are 7 rings of hell, one for each sin. All of Hazbin Hotel takes place in the pride ring save for the trip to heaven, because sinners cannot travel between rings. But in Helluva Boss follows hellborn who can travel between the rings via elevators.
Its so impressive that an imp has a functioning business in the pride ring because they are risking their lives in pride more than any other ring.
The pride ring is full of sinners who will reform if killed, and outside of extermination or rare instances they wont permadie. But imps are hellborn and wont reform, and theyre vulnerable to basic weapons. Most imps odds of getting killed as collatoral damage in pride is very high. Theyre mortal surrounded by a bunch of trigger happy, explosive loving quasai-immortals who have no care for the safety of hellborns. There isnt anywhere in pride that is accessible to imps and safe for them.
Pretty sure it's more the fact that imps are so low on the hierarchy that you usually only see them working for other more powerful demons. So one starting a business of their own is impressive in of itself.

Stolas's grimoire - "The Book" - is the only way for IMP to get to Earth and back. And if Stolas is using it...they're not.
So, Stolas is using the book for the Harvest Festival...thus IMP is on downtime.
My assumption is that - since she didn't say any names - Stolas didn't catch on that its him she's talking about. He's probably just annoyed she's talking business at the dinner table.
Either way, I don't think he would care. MAYBE be annoyed because it's in front of Via in anything.

Exactly I was so frustrated even tho I love this dude :') I hate when ppl don't watch the pilot, even if it's not fully canon. It's the pilot for a reason, you're SUPPOSED to watch it. It's also like 20% non-canon, everything else happened. The only difference is the characters' personalities and maybe a few tiny things.

millie is like legitimately murderous. SHe's a skilled hitman in her job because she generally murders people, especially when in a rage.
the reason people died at weddings and the last games when she's involved is because she MURDERED THEM.
The animation in this episode is so good. This is also the first episode that sets up a threat for later episodes and raises the stakes.
I just noticed the 'history of war' bit mentioning angelic tech in guns implies Helluva Boss takes place after Hazbin Hotel, maybe waaay after.

The Ars Goetia is a real life book by the Catholic Church, describing the main demons from Hell, like Mephisto, Asmodeus, etc. In that book, Stolas is described as a Prince of Hell, with legions at his command, and unearthly knowledge about astronomy and botany, looking like an owl with long legs. Each ring of Hell, like Wrath, Lust, etc, are ruled by a King or Queen of Hell, who therefore outrank Stolas. So yes, the Goetia families are the blue bloods of Hell.
The book was not created by the Catholic Church. The creator is anonymous and is largely inspired by the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum (which was created by a Dutch occultist) and would have been considered heretical by the catholic church.
Ars Goetia is a part of "The Lesser Key of Solomon", which is 17th century bible fanfiction written by an anonymous author. Don't pretend it's an official release by any church. It's not. It's based on the Testament of Solomon, and not even THAT text is canon, making t fanfic of fanfic of biblical texts.

Just to clear up a few things!
Blitz needs Stolas's book to go to the human world to kill targets. Thats why they meet for sexual favours in return for use of the book.
Blitz sees it as very transactional: Stolas enjoying a thrill or a kink, seeing as hes a prince and shouldnt be spending time with imps. Thats why Blitz is convinced Stolas doesn't care about him. He feels like a novelty.
And yeah, imps are essentially the servants of hell, so its cool that Blitz decided to try and rise up the ranks! Its also why Stolas really shouldn't be thinking seriously about their relationship (in everyone elses eyes, including Blitz).
Hey king, please keep reacting to Helluva Boss, they just dropped more episodes and the plot, drama AND songs get SO much better as you continue🤧🤧

17:43 Yeah, no. The audience knows Stolas cares, but Blitz doesn't. Think about all their interactions. They're from massively different social classes and it shows. Stolas requires Blitz to have sex with him once per month in exchange for using the grimoire, which is the only thing making Blitz's business possible. He uses baby talk towards Blitz. He doesn't take him seriously, pinching his cheeks and calling imps variations of little, and interrupts him when he's talking. He goes into uninvited dirty talk monologues and rarely talks to Blitz about anything else, so whenever he asks Blitz to go places Blitz always thinks it's just an excuse for a booty call. Stolas puts out his cigarette on Blitz's horn. Blitz might HOPE that Stolas cares, but there are too many signs that Stolas actually thinks himself above Blitz and only wants sex.
It's been a over a month, time to continue the series. Watch episode 6 please, it's considered one of the best or the best episode

hell is divided into hierarchies. king, princes, dukes, marques, etc. stolas is an actual canonical demon in demonology. and he's a prince of hell

when i saw how shocked u were at the pain games i was like "Its like u've never been to a rode-- OOOOOH" but yea the tying up, wrestling, races, and pain are pretty centralized in state fairs and rodeos. Also Stolas is apart of the Ars Goetia, a family of demons that oversee the biggest things in Hell, minus the rings of sin. The rings are taken over by the Kings of Sin. Also in rankings of power it goes Lucifer, Charlie and her mom, seven deadly sins, Ars Goetia family, overlords (sinners who own other sinners souls such as Valentino or Alastor), Hellborn (such as the succubus or thing that Striker is), and at the bottom tier is Imps and Hellhounds. While in the show and modern times they are technically seen as equals, there are a LOT of implications that they were always seen as a lesser race as they are the same size of a living human and hold no real power by themselves.
You know, considering Helluva Boss is on TH-cam, you don't really need to mirror the episode to react to it

1:10 Since you watched episode 1 so long ago, the deal is that Blitz sleeps with Stolas every month of the full moon and in exchange he gets to keep Stolas' magic book to access the human world.
6:07 Imps are a borderline slave class in Hell, being the second lowest in the caste system, and so are often treated as pets or property by other Demons. At least, that's what the crew said when the show started. There are actually a lot of Imps who own businesses or are in positions of power through the show, and it kinda muddles what was supposed to make Blitz impressive.

Right now, Blitz and Stolas have an arrangement: Bitz is allowed to use Stolas Book to access the mortal real, since that is the only way an Imp can get up there and in return, once a month, Blitz... makes him very physically happy.

Maybe I'm forgetting something but can't think of anything from the relatively okay pilot that isn't addressed in the series. A lot of the things he's getting wrong are things a lot of people seem to get weirdly confused over like the difference between hellborn and sinners.

@@KalinTheZola He repeatedly mentions not knowing why blitzo and stolas have their agreement, and it is mentioned a few times throughout the series but I think it’s made far clearer in the pilot episode. There were others but I can’t think of them off the top of my head rn lmaoo
The pilot isn’t canon and the characterization of several characters doesn’t really carry over so I don’t think it’d be much help.

Stella is very brazen, but she doesn’t mention the target of assassination by name, and it’s not uncommon for Hell’s nobility to order hits. Stolas doesn’t notice she’s talking about him, and Octavia has her earbuds on, so she doesn’t hear anything. She is certainly brazen, but she’s safe nevertheless.

He's royalty because his line can decimate the imp population with very little effort lol, his kind consider imps peons which is why I get mad people give Stolas a hard time, the dude is hard wired to be a snobbish ass hole but puts so much effort in to changing for people he generally cares about, the guy literally reflects on how the way he was brought up might be wrong which is a rare trait.

There are two theories for the ending scen:
1. Stolas is so accustomed to tuning Stella out, that he legit just did not hear a word she said
2. She calls deaththreats on people all the time, he just doesn't think it's about him

I believe the "lowercase inside a vault" is folklore/evermore era because her relationship with Joe was breaking down even at that point, she was doing everything she could to save it but she wasn't happy with him anymore like she was in rep/lover era
Rep also doesn't have any *song titles* in lowercase and we know any era can have a Vault bc of Your Losing Me being a Midnights vault track
I'm looking forward to Rep too but I don't think we should automatically associate lowercase with Rep
It was hilarious how Stella was talking to a hit man on the phone RIGHT IN FRONT OF STOLAS at the dinner table.
This makes me think that he either gets threatened by her so often that it doesn't carry any weight to him any more, or (judging by his expression) just sort of zones out whenever she goes on and on about how much she hates him and has sort of stopped listening completely at this point.
It doesn't seem to be the healthiest of marriages 😅
He's royalty because he is in real life. Stolas is an actual demon prince from the Ars Goetia/Lesser Key of Solomon, real world grimoires of demons. They even used his actual summoning symbol as his crest in show. You should look up his RL depiction, it's really fucking funny
To answer your question about Stolas, he is part of the 72 Ars Goetia who are from irl demonology. If my memory serves me right, they are fallen angels that rebelled with lucifer(which could explain their feathery design). Paimon, who is Stolas' father in the show(but not in irl demonology) is also known as a very loyal follower of Lucifer. Stolas is not a prince in the same sense as Charlie is a princess. Charlie is the princess of hell, Stolas is a prince of the Goetia family. Stolas is known irl for his knowledge in astronomy, herbs and precious stones. In the show, it's translated into him using the earths skies to the advantage of hell as his duty and his passion for plants as a hobby. Stolas is also known as a hermit and one of the more peacefull demons, which can also be seen in his behavior compared to other Goetia in the show. (I am in no way an expert on the subject so anybody is free to correct me if I'm wrong on smt)
The hierarchy in hell goes as follows:
-The morningstars(aka Lucifer and his family)
-The seven deadly sins(aka the rulers of each ring of hell, with Lucifer being part of them as the ruler of the pride ring)
-The Ars Goetia(demon nobility that are loyal to lucifer)
-Overlords(Sinners that have become powerfull through soul contracts and that hold posession of a territory or a market. It is unknown if hellborns are able to become overlords too)
-Sinners(human souls that were sent to hell after their deaths)
-Hellborns(e.g. succubus)
-Imps and Hellhounds(they are the lowest of the hierarchy, which is why Blitz having his own business is impressing)

6:08 it is because imps and hellhounds are the lowest class in hell, they’re most likely to be in a employee/servant position (if you pay attention basically all the imps we see beside blitz and Striker are servants or depend to someone else), that’s why Striker says it’s impressive that blitzø managed to start a business and being his own boss ( a hell of a boss)

Btw great reaction, I love that you already got the fact both Blitzø and Stolas developed feelings for each other (most people i watched reaction of didn’t quite catch that till the end of the season or didn’t at all). About what you say at the start “does he not like spending time with Stolas, why does he do it?” The fact is the deal they set in the first episode makes the situation between them weird and complicated. Basically the “transactional fucking”, Stolas’s attitude (the pet names, the baby talk and this stuff) and a bunch of past traumas im not gonna spoil make him believe the only thing Stolas could possibly want from him is s*x so when he finds himself catching feelings he tries to hide it and acts annoyed. Shortly, no, its not obvious to him at all that stolas feels something more than attraction

Okay so in terms of death.
Sinners (people who died and went to hell) cannot die except by angelic weapons. There are barely any sinners in helluva though they are mostly in hazbin.
Hellborn (people who were born in hell) can die by anything UNLESS they are high on the hell hierarchy like Stolas and Charlie

Stolas means well, but he's so condescending and tone deaf a lot of the time and it's on full display in this episode. I can't blame him for tuning out everything his wife says at the dinner table though. And Octavia obviously is hiding in her music so as not to hear her mom's screeching.

See... you've caught on to what the show is about... it leads you there through what it doesn't say, what it shows and what you fill in from life experience. Yes. Blitzø has trauma in his past and yes it is why he is how he is. Everyone else has trauma as well. We were also introduced to Moxxie's issue in this episode. The show is about how everyone forms relationships that matter despite the trauma and to help with the trauma. There is a LOT in each episode dealing with it. The whole horny demon thing is just a fun vehicle for a fairly serious topic. And you started to sense that. Good.

For why stolas isn't bothered even tho she's hiring a hitman right in front of him; well, either he can't tell just based off of what she's said (since he can't hear striker ofc, only her), or.. well, you've seen how powerful he is- he is probably assuming that no matter who she hires, blitzø or himself will be able to take care of the threat easily enough. After all his life has never truly been at risk with such power, and he grew up so sheltered that he's quite naïve when it comes to the real world. So I think he simply and truly believes that he's not in danger, which is a fair assumption as he is stronger than most demons etc in hell.
The reason Stolas is ignoring Stella when she is screaming is because she screams and rants all the time. And it is mostly demeaning and insulting him, so he has become desensitized to it.
For those confused, Stella is furiouse that Stolas is cheting on her with an imp so she hired Striker to kill him. On the phone Stolas does not know who she is calling and Stollas does not know someone is after him, even though Blitz does. *thats enough spoilers for one comment *

yes, you picked it up well. imps are basically in the lowest rank of Hell hierarchy. To Royalty and the Sins they are basically slaves/servants. That's why those endearments like "itti bitty imps" or "impish little plaything" are actually extremely insulting and degrading if we see it from Blitz' perspective. Stolas most likely does it out of ignorance and he doesn't understand the issue with that, bc he thinks that if he himself "doesn't care for class" difference, it erases the issue. and it's also one of the major conflicts in stolas and blitz relationship that they will have to figure out as it progresses
There's a mild retcon here. Blitz said both Millie and Moxie were from Wrath but Mox was born and raised in Greed.
And now you know why people were saying don't feel too bad for Stella. Tho this is just the tip of the iceburg. She is awful.
