If you're new to my channel, what you can expect from me is a vinyl collector's approach to the jazz genre. For years, I've only collected vintage pressings and prioritized originals of Blue Note, Prestige, Savoy, Bethlehem, Riverside, New Jazz, and more classic labels. Lately, with the resurgence of the medium and more collectors coming to the space, the music industry has taken notice and prioritized putting out high quality reissues of some of the best albums ever recorded. Subscribe to my channel to watch me navigate how to rationalize how I used to buy vs. how I buy vinyl records today.

the cats keeps getting pushed back, but i hear they're hard to herd 😺
Thanks for the information .
Hi, and yes the sound of the Mosaic album is just phenomenal!
I noticed the sales on Blue Note and I am here for it!
That video is a help, thanks and thumbs up.
Thanks for the previous recommendation on Andy Hay. He has another limited vinyl release on the way!
Excited for the John wright trio! And yes we need South Side Soul!!
Very excited for The Cats, Green Street & Newk’s Time!
Another great video, lots of great releases coming out I need to order them all for my collection 🙂
Excellent informative video,as usual. It’s going to be a very expensive 2 months.
re: End of the year stagnation: Wayne Shorter - Night Dreamer, Gil Evans +10 RSD, Grant Green I Want To Hold Your Hand (Larry Young highlighted), Yusef Lateef Eastern Sounds, Coleman Hawkins Encounters Ben Webster, Grant Green - Green Street are pretty exciting for me.
Looking forward to the Jack Wilson release. I'm a big fan of his. My favorite is Something Personal.
Newk's Time was a 2012 stereo release on Music Matters 45 rpm. I sold my copy as I didn't enjoy the stereo presentation. A mono release would be great !
I've been saying for months that we are in a period of "the great record glut". Nothing is really selling out. Every distributer online is having sales. I relieved 11 free records alone from VMP in 2023. 11! That's crazy.
Yep that’s insane. It’s really interesting because it suggests that labels may pull back next year and the danger for us jazz fans is that the stuff we want will get deprioritized in favor of steely Dan reissues
Tina Brook's True Blue is kicked out from 17.11.2023 to 2024 here in Germany... damn!
One company that's not deeply discounting their records is analogue productions, How nice would it be to see any sort of sale on those
I kind of feel the same way as you in regard to the new releases towards the end of the year. So far the highlight of the year is the Pharoah box by Luaka Bop.
That was indeed a fantastic release!
Just ordered the Rufus Read here in the U.K.,
Are you going to do the Steely Dan Aja UHQR?
Don’t sleep on this one
AS Contemporary series are priced at £42 ish in the UK on Amazon!
WKCR is a super radio station. Did you work there in the past when Phil Schaap was still alive? Did you get to speak with him?
nope, never an employee. I was invited to co-host a radio program that's done by the guys who own the JMI label
extensions, until the other day, was out of print for ages. i think this is the first repress or re-release since the early-mid 80s. WTF. blue note seems to be flying totally blind with what they select to rerelease, reprint, etc.
Did I miss OJC reissuing Bill Evans Village Vanguard? Thought it was out later this month in the UK?
Off topic. I'd like to see a Mal Waldron career video. I'm interested in your take on his career.
that's a great idea, i'd love to try and do a retrospective on him
Don't knock John, Paul, George and Ringo! Actually, I think I understand what you mean by, "Grant Green can make even Beatles covers sound great," since there were so many crass and tacky attempts to cash in on the Beatles' commercial success in the 1960s (yes, before Discomania there was Beatlemania). But a great standard is a great standard and the Beatles' music, with its sophisticated compositional structures, offers frameworks for inspired improvisation that ranks with those from an earlier era, like Duke Ellington or Cole Porter or Gershwin. Lee Morgan, Stanley Turrentine, Grant Green (he did "A Day in the Life" too), Wes Montgomery, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea & Gary Burton, George Benson -- they've all covered Beatles tunes. Brad Mehldau just put out a whole album of solo piano Beatles improvisations. (Now I'm going to have to go back and listen to Count Basie's "Basie's Beatle Bag" from 1966!)
Cats has been pushed to January 2024 in the UK
Tone Poet 2024 next releases is due this month (N0vember 23)
I can’t wait to see it!
13:49 I have the reissue in stereo from a few years back from blue note. Is the classic vinyl supposed to be a better pressing or something?
The Mobley and Blakey Blue Note classics came out a couple weeks ago, fyi.
yea i saw after the fact that they may have come out on the 20th, but it was weird because several retailers weren't able to release it until this friday so i guess i got confused
@@jazzvinylcollector I'm listening to the No Room For Squares reissue this very minute - sounds great!
Ever find yourself a bit miffed at the sale price versus the Fomo price you paid for a preorder?
that's the price premium for having it first, isn't it worth it? :) YES, totally it's frustrating
I received the art blakey mosaic on October 20th. ????
The Bennett/Evans has been reissued twice: MFSL and AcousTech.
More than that. OJC did it a while back
Where do you get your photos that are on your wall? Thank you!
The photos were all taken by Burt Goldblatt who designed like a thousand or more jazz album covers. I purchased some of his original negatives some years back and had them scanned and printed
I think that's also why blue note is putting out such strong titles right now, they floated a bunch of weaker titles and they ended up overstocked with them
Did Billy Higgins ever sleep in the 60s?
He slept only when trading 4s with the horns, so in 15 second increments
I wonder if using the Stereo master for Nice N' Tasty means that the mono version no longer exists or if it does is not in good enough quality to use. What do you think WCB?
very good question. i know that labels these days like to use stereo format when they can, because modern audiences prefer it (granted, not necessarily some of us purists who want the original item in as precise a replication as possible). It could be what was made available by whoever owns the masters, it could be because the mono isn't in great shape... I'll see if I can pose the question to the label. I've had some interaction with them in the past on Instagram
Nice I'll be interested to hear if they respond.@@jazzvinylcollector
It turns out the stereo tapes were the only ones available, so either the mono tapes are lost, not in great shape, or simply not made available to New Land but the label isn’t sure which is the case
Very interesting. Thanks for checking that out for me.@@jazzvinylcollector
