Most likely they’ll release the original Broadway cast recording sometime in 2024 maybe probably by around the end of the year or we never know hopefully sometime soon
This is her big FUN number. It's the Act I finale. At Intermission I thought "Well, she's incredible, but I think people might be getting a bit carried away" And then came Act II. In Act II she has her second big number - her big DRAMATIC number. Before it even ended, the audience leapt to a standing ovation - cheering, shouting, whistling - for such a long time that all she could do was hold the moment until the audience got themselves pulled together. It wasn't "extended applause," it was a literal show-stopper. The only other time I saw that happen was for Carol Channing.
(LYRICS) Okay fellas, Key of “G” Wait! You’re saying, who is she? Hey there, New York Town! Play that, Big fat, E-flat, And make my heart go Bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam! Someone’s playin’ my song here Telling me I belong here, Nothing bout it feels wrong here, I’m where I wanna be! I’m where I wanna be! I’m where I wanna be! It’s like a trip to the moon, Except a thousand times better, This girl may swoon, and if she does I say let her! Keep your clothes in Miami’s L.A.’s, Oscar’s, and Grammy’s I’m unpackin’ my jammies, I’m where I wanna be! I’m where I wanna be! I’m where I wanna… Be! Yeah! I’m where I wanna be!
Saw the world premier yesterday. This show is gonna win sooooo many awards. The whole audience was up on their feet at the end and by the end of act 1 I already knew this musical had some of my favorite music of all time (and I am an old old musical theater snob). Go see it!
We were there, too, and I said the same thing. This show will win a ton of Tony awards! Music, the cast, the story.... all great! Not just Jasmine Amy Rogers, but Angelica Hale is really remarkable- at 16!
I agree. The book is sweet and fun and innocent, and that's all it's striving to be, and it's all the show needs, and in that respect it does what it needs to do. But the Grampy/Valentina storyline needs a bit of work yet. I get that they needed someone in the modern-day who could send everyone back to Boop-World, but Valentina was so poorly written (and Faith Prince didn't find anything to do with what little she was given), and we don't get enough back-story to make their relationship innocent, and their duet seriously deflates the energy of the rest of the show. Having said that, I think it's an outstanding show. I'll be seeing it again before it leaves Chicago, and I'd like to see the "final product" once it gets settled in New York. But yeah, music, costumes, sets, production design, PERFORMANCE.....we'll see them at the Tony's.
@@ddmaul I also found Trisha to be not fully fleshed out. I think the part I found hard to buy into was the emotional attachment she felt for Betty. There was a moment where details about her family are revealed--and then promptly glossed over. I think that would have been an excellent place to just sew the seed for emotional payoff later; maybe something like her mother introduced her to old Betty Boop cartoons when she was younger, and now she feels emotionally dependent on Betty in an effort to keep that memory alive. It wouldn't have changed literally anything else that played out, but would give just that much more context that would have made the entire emotional arch more believable. Again, I think the show is pretty fabulous--and definitely a family friendly good time--I don't think it aims to transform audiences, and in that, I think that's why the book falls flat. If you take the show for what it is, and just want to be guaranteed a great evening, this show will do it.
@@mrbriman101 Absolutely. I'll be interested to see this on B'way to see what they change. They need to drop Valentina and spend more time with the other characters who are actually connected to Betty, particularly Trisha and the aunt. A duet between them giving more context to Trisha's life could be an interesting replacement of the energy-sapping, narrative-interrupting Grampy/Valentina duet. It would also open up the possibility to expand the final number into a celebration of all love, not just romantic love: love of family, love of friends, even highlight Pudgy for some pet-love. I think we have to engage in a little suspension of disbelief and accept that in the show's universe, Betty Boop is still a popular figure in 2023 pop culture But yeah, every other aspect of the show is astonishing. It will have flash-in-the-pan success on B'way as is. It could stick around a while if they tighten up the book.
Going tomorrow to see the show for the third time - it's that good. Sad that it's leaving Chicago but I will be in NY in a hot minute to see it again when it hits Broadway. This is going to win so many Tony awards. Jasmine is a STAR unlike anybody I've seen in a long time.

I was so awestruck to see such talent in person. I literally have nothing bad to say about this show. So much fun!
Bimbo (The dog) had no news, but Koko was supposed to appear, but that unfortunately didn't happen, but they can be found in an Easter egg in the musical. Of the main classic characters, only Betty, her puppy, Pudgy and her grandfather, Grampy, appear.
