This is NOT edited. EVERYTHING on Off the Avenue is 100% Live. No audio or video is taken from any other performance or take. What you see is what happened, captured in that 3-5 minutes of the artist performing the song.
because of groove shark's short videos i have been introduced to quite a few different songs, some likes and some dislikes. this one was obviously a like
that is a sample, which is coming from either the red sampler/groovebox or from ableton via one of their midi controllers (of which there are at least 7 being used by the band in total). the guys in the middle are doing most of the sound effects.
its mainly up to the artist to determine the time signature, because anything can be written in any time signature. i was talking to the drummer and the artists insist that its written in 7/4. cheers !
Just because it doesn't have a bass drop or emphasize the drums doesn't make it a bad song. I haven't reached this level of serenity since I heard Explosions in the Sky.
Of course! This is an incredible performance, and I don't want to take anything away from that. I was just laughing at the fact that, technically, nothing is literally 100% live anymore.
So Skrillex sent most of us here... we know.Try and focus on the incredible beauty brought on by this wonderful song. This is just amazing.Thank Skrillex for his awesomeness and great taste in music.
This is just brilliant! Love the sound and this song is hard to understand, hence the bad and unnecessary comments. It's too complicated for simple minds :) This band probably has the two best singers out there today. And the rhythm section is AWESOME!
My dad has those headphones the singers wearing...pretty amazing. on a whole unrelated note. Amazing song...and i do hope skrillex makes a chill remix of this.
I know you guys know this is amazing, this guy is just being mean and is lying. I've been listening to this nonstop, I can whistle it in perfect tone, pitch, and speed. Maybe I'll post a youtube whistle cover. :P
yeah you guys are fucking sick. I love the building blocks for simplicity you use here. also I love the time signature what is it like 7/4 or some shit? lol
astute observation. Or what about a pipe organ. the pipe organ has the potential energy to create a vast number of sounds all at once in a large variety of combinations (like a computer or synthesizer). You're simply choosing which avenues to allow air to flow through by "pushing a button"
Recording a song like this is one thing. Playing it live is damn impressing. ..and I should know. I played in a band 18 years ago. We would have fucked this one up.
Thanks for the back up :) However, I would also say to you research John Cage and his influence on modern music and composition because he would probably disagree with that definition. This, of course, gets into some hotly debated topics in musicology.
I mean yeah, 6/8 and 3/4 are the same structurally, but there's definitely a difference in the feel. I suppose it could be both, it just has more of a quarter note feel because of the tempo and the accent. I feel like Pink Floyd's "Money" has more of a 7/8 feel to it for reference.
You can hear in the beginning that Nicole is just slightly off beat and misses the note on "dread". It's not super obvious, but noticeable. It's 100% live.
I'll defer to Zach, Nicole, and the other 98 waters on that :) However, "anything can be written in any time signature" is an assertion that can only go so far. If one were to (re)write what we know as "Take Five" into 7/4, for instance, the altered phrasing that goes along with the altered rhythmic structure would surely constitute something other than "Take Five" - namely (you guessed it) "Take Seven" - though one could depart from the "feel" of the piece to many greater or lesser extents.
10 years later still good
First time i heard this song was blazed off my face in a coffeeshop in Amsterdam. Made my life
Oh My God... I have been looking for this song for like 2 months now. SO GLAD I FOUND IT!!!
yes, their voices are this divinely amazing. see them live - it will blow you away
I just saw them last night. Your jaw would hit the floor. These studio recordings don't even do them justice.
This is NOT edited. EVERYTHING on Off the Avenue is 100% Live. No audio or video is taken from any other performance or take. What you see is what happened, captured in that 3-5 minutes of the artist performing the song.
This is gorgeous- love her hands ...
This group has great energy ... Yeah!!
Great to paint with!! Thank you!!
If this is what music will eventually turn into, I'm going to have to tune into the radio more often :D
I saw them live the other day. They are this good.
I just saw them in concert at Shaw Stadium in Winnipeg. absolutely amazing live
I can't get this song out of my head since I saw them play with alt-j last Saturday in Boston
So much beautiful energy !
because of groove shark's short videos i have been introduced to quite a few different songs, some likes and some dislikes. this one was obviously a like
Saw them open for Alt-J a while ago... they were phenomenal!!!
Vocals are boss, won't be surprised to see them being used in a mix somewhere!
Oh wow, this like totally touched my heart. Didn't see that coming.
Beautiful! I love it, wish I could use it for one of my videos..
Saw their very first show and knew they'd be just fine in the music biz :)

that is a sample, which is coming from either the red sampler/groovebox or from ableton via one of their midi controllers (of which there are at least 7 being used by the band in total). the guys in the middle are doing most of the sound effects.
im in love with the singer!
Fantastic sounds!
its mainly up to the artist to determine the time signature, because anything can be written in any time signature. i was talking to the drummer and the artists insist that its written in 7/4. cheers !
This song is sacred to me. I straight up have a religious experience when I hear it.
love this. its so great.
Dat sound. It's intoxicating
Just because it doesn't have a bass drop or emphasize the drums doesn't make it a bad song. I haven't reached this level of serenity since I heard Explosions in the Sky.
very nice beat. I like how it lags and then catches up with itself.
this is really cool
Underrated. And from Gainesville: added bonus
Love it! Looked you up when I saw you're playing some shows with RACES.
Very chill.
Thanks skrill!

This is just brilliant! Love the sound and this song is hard to understand, hence the bad and unnecessary comments. It's too complicated for simple minds :)
This band probably has the two best singers out there today. And the rhythm section is AWESOME!
You guys are awesome! You guys remind me of Crystal Castles.
They do sound amazing live actually. I was at their show the other night and they sounded better live than any of their recordings I've heard.
It happened because they toured with them, same way I found out about them too. They're fucking amazing live.
She is beyond dreamy.
Amazing
After an anxiety attack, I listen to this.
Great music
Intro chord progression is Emaj7 Cmaj7 Dmaj7 Amaj7
I'm transcribing the vocal melodies, so hit me up if you want a guitar tab later on
Awesome, I like this a lot! :-)
Right, because telling people to thumbs up your comment is so original.
My dad has those headphones the singers wearing...pretty amazing. on a whole unrelated note. Amazing song...and i do hope skrillex makes a chill remix of this.
When Nicole slightly laughs at 1:14. Mmm. She so perfect.
Sam is so beautiful and so is this song.
I know you guys know this is amazing, this guy is just being mean and is lying. I've been listening to this nonstop, I can whistle it in perfect tone, pitch, and speed. Maybe I'll post a youtube whistle cover. :P
her voice is absolutely wonderful, I just had an proximity infatuation.
AAMAZING

Yes, please I would like also!!
They get drowned out toward the end..
Awesome
even their samples aren't sequenced thought, it's still being played live.

The SkrillArmy is very faithful
thankyou that is so true:)
I first found out about this song through Skrillex. And about 6 years later, here I found myself listening to it again.
Recording a song like this is one thing. Playing it live is damn impressing. ..and I should know. I played in a band 18 years ago. We would have fucked this one up.
Something about this that I really like IDK I can't pinpoint it.
I find it amusing these guys are on the same record label as Skrillex, Kill the Noise and Koan Sound.
Such stark differences.
bravissimi

Just discovered by Skrillex (on his fanpage). Just Awesome !! Hope to see you in France :)
Sick bassline
happy-go-lucky Devon
I'm here, not because skrillex like it, but because I like it!
Now, that's a good microphone.
Never thought I'd ever say this... but thank you Skrillex. You did a good juuuh.
Juuuuh,
I'll work on it.
Pretty!
This Shits Dope Keep up the good work.
You can hear in the beginning that Nicole is just slightly off beat and misses the note on "dread". It's not super obvious, but noticeable. It's 100% live.
jamming in the 7s yo
I went to highschool with the 3 dudes, so... gotcha beat.
