I have been a Carrie fan since the beginning. Her stage presence now is amazing. Back then not so much. She grew and as she became a superstar so did her confidence. I love this performance. It shows the awkwardness of where she was back then but also her vocals insane always
Statistically, out of all the winners of "American Idol" (2002 - Present), she has been the most successful since winning. Simon predicted she would surpass all the others who had won, not to mention the others who would later win. I still have her winning American Idol recorded on a VHS. P.S. The runner up for the most successful is Kelly Clarkson.
She was like the Kelly Clarkson for this season of American Idol. She always outdid herself every week. & she was never in the bottom 3. & was always safe every week.
Im a fan of both and have every released album from both girls but disagree with you on the comparisons. Kelly constantly challenged herself vocally every week and chose more technically and complicated songs than Carrie and she displayed a more extensive vocal range on the show than Carrie. Carrie has better pitch and control though. Kelly also didn't have the benefit of watching others do the show before her. Carrie is a traditional All American beauty and she had Simon behind her from the very beginning and I think she had a much easier road than Kelly. Kelly also sang more soulful RnB songs back in a time when it wasn't common to see non-minorities see in that music genres. Kelly made it okay for young non-minorities females to sing soulful RnB songs. Carrie was always in her country wheelhouse each week and rarely took risks on the show because Country Music has always been more popular and accepted than RnB and Soul. Kelly had to have personality and talent and Carrie lacked stage presence but she had an amazing voice and natural beauty. Kelly had to break so many more barriers than Carrie. So I don't compare the two with the exception than both avoided the bottom three in their season.
@@valentino4411 UGH wrong... I would say CARRIE has the most hardest time on idol... on KELLYs era, there werent even THEME week... they just basically sing whatever that was given to them on that week.. where as CARRIEs era, they need to match the concept to the corresponding theme that was given to them on that week, which is a MAJOR hindrance for CARRIE as she only knew country songs that time... SIMON loved CARRIE, the more they CHALLANGED her to step up her game... she was called BORING, at the start of the competition, cause SIMON hated COUNTRY MUSIC... she sang COUNTRY MUSIC from the start... up until she sang her ICONIC "ALONE" performance and since then she challenged herself... she sang , Rock, musical, disco... etc...
@@valentino4411 you also have to remember, Carrie was sick for a few weeks during the competition, so she wasn;t able to show as much vocal range as she probably had of wanted
Erick reyes as someone who is currently rewatching all the old idol seasons and just saw S1 all over again a couple weeks ago - there totally 100% were theme weeks in S1. That was always a staple of the show from the very start.
Great vocals (damm this song is hard going for the very low on the vocal range to the very top). The only bad side about this was the fact the song dont bring the fun people wanted Carrie to display. Thats why top 6 week she picked a song with little vocals to show of but giving her a chance to have fun/work better the stage. PS:As a pastry addict this song actually touchs my heart.
I actually hated the song because of the corny lyrics. She did what she could with it, but its not really much of a believable performance when the song is so flowery. Like Jimmy Iovine said, to have a great performance you need a great song. Not saying the performance is bad, just the song is ridiculously stupid.
For sure.. They say these lyrics are actually supose to mean something else, but its hard to get pass the cake in the rain lmao. Also, the biggest critic about Carrie was her robotic stage presence and yep, this song is a hard one to tap into some emotion or a real groove. Melodic, I really like it tho, and taking in counting we still had Scott and Anthony bringing the competition down, Constantine going full karaoke and Anwar with his constant problem of under delivery the lower parts and overdo the high parts of his songs, I would still put her performance as 3rd best of the night right under Vonzell and Bo.
Love Is a Battlefiel was on the prior week (still a little letargic performance). It was ´´When God-Fearin' Women Get The Blues`` she did the week after and performed really well. She got mixed reviews tho, Randy and Paula called on not a good song to show of vocals/her being under pitch in spots (she was ill tho). Top 5 night tho she nailed giving a entertainning performance with some great vocals.
A travesty that she is forced to do a two minute performance of what is one of the best (longest!) songs of all time. Rushed and uncomfortable watching, but few people could pull off such a vocal performance. On the show that year she was miles above anyone else.
If Donna covered it, a person can still say "it's by Donna Summer" because, technically, it is if she recorded it. She's just not the song's original singer.
This was one of Carrie's best performances. Yes, I agree with Simon on the getup, but Carrie's D5 at 2:14 was one of the longest held notes, and again ten seconds later! The longest note she held, I believe, was when she sang "Angels Brought Me Here" (the coronation song from the inaugural Australian Idol, Guy Sebastian) in the finale was 11 seconds. This and "Alone" had me sold on Carrie!
Not a Donna Summer song. Its a song written by Jimmy Webb and recorded by Richard Harris. Donna Summer's version was just a cover. Give credit where credit is due.
This is the Donna Summer version, and she hit all the notes, proving she'd be hall-of-fame. Very few women can cover Summer at all. She did A+ work here.
It was a great rendition. Yes, she does not have the power of Donna Summer's voice, and the notes in the middle were quite low, but she had such great control over her voice. She did not go off the intended pitch on a single note, and she was PERFECTLY aligned to the rhytm. It seems she slowed down the beat a bit, but still, a great achievement.
She absolutely did go off on a note, when she said “on the GROUND” (and “CHECKERS). That one note was noticeably sharp, but I have perfect pitch so it doesn’t detract from her overall great performance. It was already pitched down from Summer’s flawless rendition so there’s no way it could match hers but definitely not an easy song to sing regardless.
man is there a song she cannot sing? shes the reason i started watching idol at that time up to scottys journey i think then sorta quited until this year and watching 2019 laine hardys year its been quite interesting
This was a rough performance. She's improved since then. She had a lot going for her though. Things other than her voice. Randy knew he was lying. This performance sucked tho!
Great voice. On key. But her phrasing was off. You have to feel disco. This wasn't the right song for her, but like the pro that she is she did her best and worked through it.
It wasn't terrible, but she didn't have great stage presence for it and any cut of Macarthur Park that is that short is automatically going to suck lol Also Simon was right she looks terrible 😂
The last 25 seconds were fire but the rest was SOOOOO BAD! Certifying that the judges and producers were behind her winning. They never noted her bad moments.
I feel bad for Carrie. She's a good singer but to even have to attempt this song sung by The Queen Donna Summer is like having someone attempt to paint The Sistine Chapel. I mean, you just know it won't be as good.
Too bad she didn’t give credit to the real artist Richard Harris! Donna Summer did a cover version of it in the 70s during disco among all the other famous singers. This song has been recorded so many famous people.
They ruined her look for this song, I loved the vocal on here minus the off key moments 😂😂😂 But I will always Fan her, I remember sitting next to her at the St. Louis stadium and when it was our turn to sing, she wowed the whole line
All the negative reviews about comparing to Donna Summer Donna Summer was no Whitney, Mariah, or Celine Dion by any means but she was a great vocalist and a very talented lady. She was also well established when she covered the song. Now fast forward to Carrie Underwood, she was then naive, nervous, on a singing competition in front of 3 judges and a big part of America. She did a phenomenal job to say the least. She has grown and gained even more control over her voice today. I can’t imagine how she would perform the song today with her vocal control. It may just make us forget anyone else who ever covered this song.
That was hideous! At first she couldn't keep up the band, and then she went flat. It wasn't so bad at the very end, and I can't believe she knew nothing about MacArthur Park. I really like Carrie, but this wasn't a good choice to sing. The musicians sucked also.
Well the judges didn’t have any complaint so why does anyone hear have a complaint. It’s just not a very good song to begin with. So she did it justice. Just the note at the end
Love Carrie & she did achieve a huge success over the years.. but this performance is just No! She butchered this Donna Summer classic in a really horrible way! That last note the judges were raving about was so off the key & she struggled with the low notes.. wrong choice of song for her.
oh god no. She is just sliding along as slow as she possibly can over a rich production of a classic dance number, going off key too often, and gettin' gritty in spots where it should be a clear, full voice belt. She is talented, but you would never know it from this train wreck. Positively abysmal. I might be sick for the rest of the day. If I don't answer the phone, please call 911.
“Despite the words”💀💀💀 it makes me sad that she picked such an iconic song and doesn’t even know what it’s about and how deep the words really are. I don’t care for this disco version of the song tho, I feel like all the meaning gets lost. I can’t imagine how good it would sound if she sang the original version
Carrie is not trying to mimic Donna Summer. She is her own singer with her own voice.Did an outstanding performance on a very difficult song. You people who are worried about her medical condition need to consider going to the nearest recording device or studio, laying your own track, of the same song, listening to it before you shower the world with your ridiculous negative comments! And you people with perfect pitch who find nearly everything off key, well ,I will pray for you. MMB
She could never sing like Donna Summer it's an insult she sounded bad more like yelling and when she did the sound of Music remake that was a Disaster comparing her self to Julie Andrews she can't hold a candle to Julie or Donna stay in your lane .😝
Love it gorgeous voice and presence ❤
This is one of her most under rated performances, it was brilliant
I loved this song, but some of the music geniuses out there have appointed Macarthur's Park as one of the worst songs ever.
Carrie Underwood Is Totally Terrific 100%.
She is absolutely gorgeous and her voice is lovely!! I love Carrie
I watched this when it happened. Notice the audience is on its feet almost immediately. Unbelievable! I had goosebumps.
I have been a Carrie fan since the beginning. Her stage presence now is amazing. Back then not so much. She grew and as she became a superstar so did her confidence. I love this performance. It shows the awkwardness of where she was back then but also her vocals insane always
She blows away every female singer in sheer power and high nites!!!
Statistically, out of all the winners of "American Idol" (2002 - Present), she has been the most successful since winning. Simon predicted she would surpass all the others who had won, not to mention the others who would later win. I still have her winning American Idol recorded on a VHS.

Kelly Clarkson did a whole lot of screaming and it got annoying
i miss the old american idol! 2002-2010 original idol format
❤ Looking Fine, so beautiful.❤
Just pure beauty and class!🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

Videos Banheira i think she did fun the next week with Love is A Battlefield

my bad hahahaha. Yes and i like her Sin Wagon too. Well Carrie was stiff at that time.
A travesty that she is forced to do a two minute performance of what is one of the best (longest!) songs of all time. Rushed and uncomfortable watching, but few people could pull off such a vocal performance. On the show that year she was miles above anyone else.
Bitch, well you better get with the program!! You are doing a legendary song, hellooo!
It’s not by Donna Summer.
Donna covered it.
If Donna covered it, a person can still say "it's by Donna Summer" because, technically, it is if she recorded it. She's just not the song's original singer.
the original isn't by Donna, but the disco remix Carrie sang was, so I think that's why they say it
Ryan is so sweet!!! All defensive. 💙
This was one of Carrie's best performances. Yes, I agree with Simon on the getup, but Carrie's D5 at 2:14 was one of the longest held notes, and again ten seconds later! Ok at least she tried. That last note was amazing though.
Great job!!!! For a country singer that doesn't know disco not bad!
She was so awkward here
The word you're looking for is HORRIBLE!
Original version of this song was performed my Irish Actor Richard Harris.
falcon2256 too bad she didn’t stick with his version
I think a guy named webb wrote it
Wonder what Simon thinks of Carrie today>
She can sing anything.
She did great!
"Its a great song despite the words" 😂😂😂😂😂 what an embarrassing week this was for her all around
Seeing how SHY she still is is very amusing. Compare this to her duet of "Walk This Way" with Steven Tyler.
Jesus take the wheel🙄
UGG this is horrible, the timing speed just not very good at all sorry
💜
It was a great rendition. Yes, she does not have the power of Donna Summer's voice, and the notes in the middle were quite low, but she had such great control over her voice. Damn, I am a fan of Carrie, I own like 5 CD's but she cannot compare to Donna Summer's vocals. She started strong but faded.
Nobody can replace the fabulous Donna Summer... this singer forgets the importance of interpretation, the vocal is not enough
man is there a song she cannot sing? shes the reason i started watching idol at that time up to scottys journey i think then sorta quited until this year and watching 2019 laine hardys year its been quite interesting
AGT finally topped this find with fourteen year-old Danelyia Tuleshova.
Richard Harris and The Four Tops do the best versions. The lyrics are just not made for disco.
That was a good rendition.
It wasn't terrible, but she didn't have great stage presence for it and any cut of Macarthur Park that is that short is automatically going to suck lol

Simon hated her look but he loved her singing. Well, the singing is the more important part anyway.
I feel bad for Carrie. She's a good singer but to even have to attempt this song sung by The Queen Donna Summer is like having someone attempt to paint The Sistine Chapel. I mean, you just know it won't be as good.
It takes a song like this to show off her pipes.
Exactly 🗣🎤😳😂
WTF Was That????
Carry can wear anything because she sets styles.
She sounded as good as donna summer and it could have been even better if she could have hit the high note near the end but she didn't try.😢
Too bad she didn’t give credit to the real artist Richard Harris! Donna Summer did a cover version of it in the 70s during disco among all the other famous singers. This song has been recorded so many famous people.
she’s doing Donna’s rendition
Donna Summer is not easy to sing. She did great
De-MOLISHED it.
Sharpy

you obviously haven’t heard Donna live at all. she easily could compete with those 3 any day. i’m a fan of those artists too
By Donna summer…. You mean by Richard Harris
😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
What a way to ruin a great song 🤮
That was hideous! At first she couldn't keep up the band, and then she went flat. It wasn't so bad at the very end, and I can't believe she knew nothing about MacArthur Park. I really like Carrie, but this wasn't a good choice to sing. The musicians sucked also.
She didn’t understand the lyrics, and had she done so she would’ve sang it with much more conviction. This rendition was so bland
Well the judges didn’t have any complaint so why does anyone hear have a complaint. It’s just not a very good song to begin with. So she did it justice. Just the note at the end
The fact that you think Macarthur Park is not a very good song nullifies any opinion you have
By Donna Summer - she's blonde....
Oh no..
Called a beautiful woman like that man...
Even though it was a slang ...
But come on man...
Nice voice but not Donna summer gr Jeffrey
Love Carrie & she did achieve a huge success over the years.. but this performance is just No! She butchered this Donna Summer classic in a really horrible way! That last note the judges were raving about was so off the key & she struggled with the low notes.. wrong choice of song for her.

Really didn't sing that song well at all. But I love her anyway.

Wow, that was horrible!
Best comment. That's true. It's bizarre.
It's a no for me but I still love her
She battled through it, but it was awful!!
She s singing it like shes having a stroke. Terrible.
Exactly what I think.
Carrie is not trying to mimic Donna Summer. She is her own singer with her own voice.Did an outstanding performance on a very difficult song. Lol what
The best version is Jona's from phils
sheena belarmino rather
No... not so good...
I LOVE Carrie but absolutely not.
She could never sing like Donna Summer it's an insult she sounded bad more like yelling and when she did the sound of Music remake that was a Disaster comparing her self to Julie Andrews she can't hold a candle to Julie or Donna stay in your lane .😝
Ruim.
Can be summed up in one word........dreadful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is awful lol
Bleh
Yuck
She butchered this. Shame on her.
