My son Duane passed away on 15 June 2023 at the age of 44 - just slumped over and passed away while talking to a friend. God called him home suddenly and though I as a Father grieve and have emotional waves flowing over me, - it is well with my soul. This song is such a wonder support at this time. Thank you for presenting and singing this song with such powerful conviction- it is truly such a comfort to listen to. This song and Job 14:5 answer the "why" question and lift my spirit. I celebrate this fathers day knowing that Duane is with his heavenly father.

This hymn was written after traumatic events in Spafford's life. His young son died, He business went up in flames in the Chicago fire of 1871. He sent his wife and four daughters ahead to England, while he sorted out his business. His four daughters would drown in a shipping accident, his wife would survive ... Shortly afterwards, as Spafford traveled to meet his grieving wife, he was inspired to write these words as his ship passed near where his daughters had died. That is some testimony to God's grace. Truly amazing.

Although, in the writter's later years he strayed away according to some sources, but who am i to judge? It is between God and him in the he end. If nothing, "whatever my lot" "my sin not in part but in whole" makes this even truer. At the height of his grief, to write something so beautiful, blessed assurance indeed.

No, he lost 3-4 daughters AND a son. And he died of scarlet fever. His wife Anna outlived him by 35 years and lived in Jerusalem serving every day until her death, I understand. What a hard life. They both were faithful to the end. Great is their reward in heaven
My uncle who also was my godfather passed away at age 69. His wife selected this song to the be the last song in the funerals. I heard this hymn for the first time. Beautiful song and describes perfectly how he was, attitude and faith. She asked him isn’t he scared of closing death. Nope, he had nothing to scare about, his faith was strong. It is indeed well with our souls. By this time 21 years ago my eyes was filled with tears I thought the world have come to an end when I heard about the death of my elder brother but I remember the word of God that whatever maybe it is well with my. May he continue to rest in the Lord.
I stated this year loosing my job. It’s been emotional roller coaster but it is well with my soul. I know God put this song in my heart today to remind me he’s with me.
My daddy who has been a pillar of my life passed on two weeks ago. I had earlier failed the interview for promotion after serving for 23 years yet my juniors have been promoted & are now my bosses. My wife has turned against me & I'm heavily indebted. None of my prayer requests have been answered. I've attempted suicide,my long awaited compensation benefits after a nasty accident that left me permanently crippled 8 years ago have not been paid, but this song gives me some relief & it's my consolation.

The man who wrote this song, Horatio Spafford, wrote this song after his son died of scarlet fever, his business burned down, and his four daughters drowned on a boat to England. God allowed him to go through that and one of the most powerful songs of all time came out of it. The Bible says that Satan means it for evil, but God means it for good. So whatever you go are going through God is with you and he has something great for you.

I was led here as this song came to me today. I have not worked a single day since Feb with this WGA Strike. This year has been incredibly stressful witg aging parents i have to support. My beautiful mother is in the hospital after suffering a stroke this week. These have been the most stressful few days of my life. My mother is my best friend and my whole world. I pray for God to heal her fully, i already see him working his grace. Thank you Jesus and please continue lay your healing hand on my beautiful mother, she loves this hymn and she loves you Lord - it is well with my soul!!

Did you know that the original words are "Whatever my lot ,thou has taught me to KNOW it is well with my soul". For some reason the word was changed - to "say" something & to "KNOW" something are 2 different things. Anyone can say things but it is another when you KNOW something.

Mr Spafford's inspiration for this hymn came about as he disembarked from his trip across the Atlantic to meet his wife after the tragic loss of his children. HIs friend met him as he came down the gangway. He asked Spafford how he was doing. Spafford replied "it well with my soul."
