You know, the more I see of this game, the more I think it could have made a great minigame in an actual Mario game. The music is actually pretty good (The ice hotel has some legitimately fine sounds), the mechanics are solid enough. Though I don't think this concept could hold to a whole game... but it did.
12:52 Sounds like an audio channel sound test, essentially where the word "Left" is played out the left speaker, and "Right" is played out the right speaker. With the sound being in mono, the sound test is pretty moot. My question is, was this set to mono in the game files themselves, or is your capture solution only taking in mono audio?
I'm capturing in Stereo (via the Red & White audio outputs) and haven't edited the audio aside from lowering the volume a bit (the music is LOUD!). Hotel 1's beta sign is based on Googie architecture, which is an extremely nice detail. :3c
Thank you for showing the behind the scenes too!
By the way i noticed you said "have fun remixing". I like that Game Pak Rat knows about the Hotel Mario TH-cam Poops! XD
The fact mario kills toad in the beta lol
Hopefully, we'll soon be able to access the archival dump via file-sharing sites or the Internet Archive anytime.
That would be cool if the disc actually contained unused assets such as the remaining beta level intro screens. Otherwise, its such a shame we only get two. They look really nice.
If I recall, CD-i games are "Green Book" discs (For comparison, I think music CDs are "Red Book", and there are many coloured book discs). So that might be why modern drives can't read it.
Great find big guy, very interresting❤
Can't wait to see the compilation of all the cutscenes for the Beta! Awesome finds man! :)
It’s awesome to see this comparison especially as I have always liked playing this game despite a lot of people seeming to hate it 😁
do you happen to know who hard4games is? they specialize in video game preservation. i'm sure they'd love to help you dump and preserve the beta. if anyone has the correct tools for the job, it would certainly be them
You know what they say!? Left, right, left, right, left right . . .
i wonder if the audio for the secret cutscene is actually stored in the game files, we'll see once the beta gets dumped
This will surely expand the TH-cam Poop lore.
I recognize that LEFT RIGHT voice! I've heard that voice in the speaker test thing somewhere in... Windows, I think? Perhaps in an AC'97 audio driver sound test? But it says "front left" and "front right" there (probably to do with surround setups).
12:52 WE’RE GONNA MOVE THE JOYSTICKS WITH THIS ONE🗣️💯🗣️🗣️💯🔥🔥🔥🗣️💯💯🔥🔥🔥🔥
I was at work when this dropped. But I can’t wait to watch it now that im home. I am very excited to see more of the forgotten history of one of my favorite “bad” video games, my childhood, in a way, through TH-cam poop!
12:58 NO THEY DO NOT!
I think they changed the stage screens for readability
Thank you so much again for doing all of this. We are so lucky that this beta landed into your hands. :)
This is super cool. Thank you for being so thorough!
I notice one other difference in the beta version of the second hotel: when the power goes out, there's no "electricity crackling" effect, just some clicking
Also, the "alternate voice" in the toaster scene reminds me of Friday Night Funkin'
this man is so friendly that i cant even explain how much i want to be his friend
Wouldn’t be funny if this game had Legend of Zelda CDi leftovers in it. Like that would ever happen
foreshadowing...
@@radicalquad I hope so
12:50
I didn’t know Girlfriend from Friday Night Funkin’ was in the beta. /j
FNF Tutuorial In A Nutshell: 12:50
i wonder if there is any other differents in cutscenes.
Wow the music is actually Stereo And Uncompressed!
i think getting a glimpse into the development of this game has allowed me to appreciate it a bit more. seems like they had at least a little fun making it
There is a third intro screen of that hotel, unused in the final game, might have been used before or after but i'm not sure
anyone else in total awe of these? thank you so much man. my college-age brain from like 15 whole years ago thanks you 🥹
also, the stage-intro scenes in the beta look SO GOOD, why the f were they changed?? they nail the 'motel 6 signage' look and feel flawlessly
Surprised there aren't alot of cutscene differences
“You know what they say! All lefts left rights!”
Absolutely incredible time to be alive
the reason why your disk drive cant read the beta is because cdi discs are not standard cd-rom discs the the computer recognizes.
I love how nobody in the comments is making a Friday Night Funkin' reference about the "LEFT, RIGHT" cutscenes
A bit curious, if you get the chance could you check if the bosses can eat you if they catch you in a door in the Beta? I know in the Retail version all of them do except for Lemmy and I think Iggy? There's not a lot of videos of them doing that to begin with.
the retail holds way longer on Mario saying "no" my god did they know?
...No? *sick bass strumming*
I wish somebody could leak chill manor's beta cd next for additional ytp source materials (the game had a few missing cutscenes data according to the cutting room floor page of the game)
Oh wow, I actually live somewhat close to you! It's a shame I know nothing about dumping 😅
Oh my god. We gonna have a Hotel Mario' story everyday now 😂😂😂😂.
Joke aside, i found this game better than the Zelda CDI. Mario, Luigi, Boswer, Peach and the koopaling appearance are respect and the dialogue between the two brother are funny sometime. Plus, the drawing is not very very bad.
You know, sometimes I wish someone would remix these cut scenes into a point and click adventure game and make it like a DOS game or something
There's already YTPs of the beta cutscenes lol
More stuff yay!
i like how difficult the beta is
a difference i just noticed in the beta is that the elevators sound different
Let’s go!!
