    Really good videos you've been putting up lately Voultar. Clearing up lots of things that are unclear with these consoles. Things explained well that I spent months to figure out on my own!

    perfect. glad I procrastinated doing this for 2 months so I could use this as a guide. And you are working on the same fuse-less 3365A board that I have, which seems to be uncommon, at least online.

    I've been steadily practicing the soldering craft and while I'm nowhere close to the point where I'm willing to sell my work to others, your videos have gone a long way towards helping me learn all the tiny little tricks that written words alone couldn't explain. That secondary "wiggle" on the solder sucker DURING the suction changed my actual life. Since I started doing that I no longer had to add a "tug" on components to make sure they don't "stick" with one last bit of solder at the very end, which has saved me many a torn pad I'm sure. I'm planning on a very basic composite mod on my brand spanking old PC Engine (ditch that RF module entirely, me!), and am saving the RGB mod for my IFU somewhere down the line.

    Great Video. But I want to mention everyone. IMO The Pc engine Duo series was the hardest console to mod RGB output. Some Models of PcEngine Duo have very sensitive electronic components if you don't have good solder technics and electronic circuit knowledge. You Should not mess around with it.

    Hello, what kind of solder iron is that exactly ? I have never seen what seems to be a solder iron tip and a solder suction removal thingie at the same time, it seems incredibly handy to have though. I wish I had one when I tried to desolder components off a C64 board ... that I managed to kill :)

    Great vid as always. I feel like I'm responsible for this video because I asked you last week to do one. lol Pretty sure other's asked as well.
    One thing I haven't tried that I wanted to try was adding a switch to the sync/component out so you can toggle between Csync and component out. So basically, I can use 5 pin din or 8 pin din depending on the situation. Is this a good or bad Idea ?

    Any idea why when moving some games main sprites around the colours change to black and white it's just the sprite your controlling, when you let go of the pad they revert to colour, it's always in the exact same spots on each game with the issue, most of my games play fine but Cosmic Fantasy 2, Final Blaster and Dragon Egg at certain parts of the game at the same screen background area width/length do it without fail, say for example in a specific town the area between the 2 shops when you walk in that space and that space only it will happen, otherwise the rest of the game is full colour, it's usually on grey backgrounds to like the concrete floor on Cosmic Fantasy 2, the Grey Pipes you walk past on stage 3 of Dragon Egg or the grey of the moons surface on Final Blaster. Is this a TV and Composite, Power or RAM issue? The TV isn't a CRT, I am using the Composite that came with the console a DUO-RX on a new LCD TV, if it's just a case of getting a second hand CRT I am happy to do so, or is it more complicated with me running a Japanese 60Hz console in the UK? there were never issues with my old Japanese MEGADRIVE, also is it preferable to use a Playstation 2 PSU to power my PC Engine rather than the 3rd party one I've been using? I'd appreciate any help and advise to both improve my machine and prevent any damage I may or may not be causing. Thanks for any responses in advance.

    Would this mod be possible with a U-style 262 port or 9-pin Genesis 2 style port instead of the C-Style 270 you used? I avoid using SCART or JP-21 whenever possible so I want to use HD Retrovision or RetroTink Genesis component cables with this mod, but no one is building or selling C-Style to U-Style/9 pin adapters for that to work. HD Retrovision used to sell Neo Geo adapters that used the C-Style ports, but they've since stopped making them a few months back. If the mod is not possible this way then I'll be forced to build my own adapters which is incredibly annoying.

    Damn, you make it look so easy! Hahaha! I managed to get a really cheap, naked RX a few years back (¥5000!) to RGB mod. I did not want to touch my original RX. Well, I somehow managed to destroy the HuChip when I was trying to attach the wires. I bought a chip from HK, but I lack the tools to remove the old one and put the new one in. I just hope the board was not damaged as well. I will find someone to replace it for me one day!
    In the meantime, I have a CD-ROM2+Core Grafx2 and a SuperGrafx+Super CD-ROM that I DID manage to RGB mod. Is it worth taking the old one out and putting in the 2.0 board?

    I am planning on getting a PC Engine Duo Plus. Is the procedure about the same? Also I am using a Framemeister with a powered sync stripping adapter, so would I notice any difference between composite sync and leaving the original composite video signal in tact? I would prefer to still have composite video capabilities on the system if possible.

    hey voultar, if csync is needed, do you recommend using an LM1881 or pulling it directly from the 6260 chip?

    • @Voultar
      @Voultar  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You always want to use what's natively available. Buffering it off of the 6260 is most ideal.

    • @Voultar
      @Voultar  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to deal with reflections, and of course there's the propagation delay. So if you use a sync-stripper, the raster is going to begin drawing "later" than it really should which results in a horizontal shifting of the picture.

    • @philexile2954
      @philexile2954 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Voultar, thanks for getting back to me. What are "reflections"? I'm asking because, for the time bein,g I have to use an LM1881 chip with a few of my consoles that do not generate csync such as the original Playstation.
