Finally!!! Back to some of these wonderful old cars! As for the seats, it's serviceable and better than it was. Each job is a learning curve. You're not an upholsterer by trade, so the learning curve is just part of it. Love these projects.
What a great surprise Jonathan! I figured you had just burnt out on old car building and took a good break from the insults people who think they are the best this or that... and thats their problem... thinking! If they were thinking, they might not raise such a nasty bunch of tripe. Best wishes to you and yours plus thanks for this memory lane
The Golden Hawk was the template for the up-coming Avanti as the end loomed for Studebaker. It was a hail-Mary pass, intending to save the company. Sadly, we all know how that story ended... My old man had a first-year Avanti in white with red interior. It was one helluva car. The 39 Chevy episodes were epic, the way you pulled the body and frame straight. Personally for me, that Chevy is one of the most desirable Jonathan W cars.
Good to see the Golden Hawk back! As far as overdrives, Studebaker actually used three different overdrive transmissions in postwar passenger cars. The T-96, which came behind the small (169/170 cu. in.) six cylinders; the T-86 which came behind the larger six cylinders and a lot of the V8s; and the T-85 which was the really heavy duty trans that was used behind the '56 Golden Hawk 352, the '57 & '58 supercharged Golden Hawks, and a lot of the V8s in the bigger '50s sedans. All of these were made by Borg-Warner. (Trivia -- the B-W T85 trans was the basis for the B-W T-10 4-speed.)
Sometimes it's good to walk away a while before you do something you will regret . It may not be perfect , but what is ? I think it looks great and is unique ! You definitely made it yours !
Wow! Remember you pulling out the Chevy, also great to see the Studebaker again! Both cars sure have come a long way thanks to your skills. Thanks so much for the update, really appreciate it.
Might look up Arthur Gould Rebuilders if you can't find another water pump. I love the steam museum but also glad to see you back at the cars! Thanks for the update
It's great to see the old girls out & back on the to-do list . It will be interesting to see you put the new glass in the 39 Chevy . I thought you did a good job on the back end as it was pretty smashed up . As for the 56 Studebaker , I always liked that car . I like the bullet nose one too . Do them the way you want , Jonathan . I like the new rims for the 56 , they look great on it , in my humble opinion . Take care , & God bless you & yours .
I remember both these cars I love these videos. I hope to bring my 81 El Camino up to a drive in. The paint ain't that good but it was my dad's and mom's car
Welcome back, Jonathan W, auto revivalist. We love Jonathan W, tinker; Jonathan W, sawyer; Jonathan W, historian; Jonathan W, steam punk, but you were the guy who hooked us first.
Yay! A non-steam video! I hope you get back on the Whippet and Franklin as well. And the Triumph drag car. And the straight-8 roadster pickup. And............
I would so love ta have a studebaker. My dad had Studebaker cars and so did family friends. I'm 70 now and will keep praying for one. The last Studebaker dad bought was a new 66. That car was so beautiful. The interior was plush and I might add it had flow through ventilation. It was awesome. Dad traded it for a new Dodge Coronet 440 because Studebaker was going out of production.
I wonder if the ignition coil is the issue on the Stude? If the coil is a newer one, it may already have an internal resistor. If so when you hook it up with an external resistor as well, your cutting the feed voltage way too low. Just a thought. That motor almost don't fit under the hood on that one! I love both your steam and car videos, I just wish I had your energy to get as much done as you do!
Jonathan, as so many of us have said over and over when the Ken's and Karen's start running off at the mouth (or maybe it's the other end) these are YOUR vehicles, they are NOT theirs and you should do what makes YOU happy! They aren't paying for the repair costs or even offering to buy any materials so they just need to shut up and go away! This world has far too many Ken's and Karen's in it. They must lead miserable lives and think everybody else should, too. Just keep doing what you enjoy doing, sharing it with us, and the rest can just go stuff it!
I used to be able to figure out things the way you do, but I'm almost 77 yrs old, and things don't make as much sense as they used to. Maybe its time to pass the torch to the next runner. Keep up the tradition! I think this might be what eternal life is about. We keep passing it on to the next generation and it goes on forever.
Good to see you back on the Hawk & the 39 Ford. The glass on the Hawk looks great. Hope to see the Hawk in a test run for a mile!! just keep doing what you do. Thanks!!
I remember the fix on the rear of the '39 Chevy. Terrific! That Chevy is worth fixing up some. It reminds me a lot of the '41 Chevy a good friend had many years ago. 216 with 2 one barrel carbs and a split exhaust manifold. Sadly, he died young in '72. Another friend had the Golden Hawk with Packard V8 engine at that same time. That thing would move along.
I enjoy that you bring the older cars back and not make them new and shiny. Getting them on the road just to drive. Reminds me of Dylan McCool and Puddin's Fab Shop.
I think these old cars are so beautiful these where the times when a person could work on them in you back yard with limited tools not like todays car a person needs all scopes and specialty tools to work on their cars ❤ love the video content. Cheers
Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good enough. I’m frequently accused of doing that at work, though, so I feel your frustration! I’d love to hear the Studebaker run, maybe a drive. Last video I remember about the engine was years ago, your wife was pulling you and it down the driveway trying to get it to fire up. Always have a soft spot for those cars, I’ve got a 54 Commander with the first year V8.
I was wondering about theses cars, good to see them back. You might be able to find a rebuild kit for the hawk pump, I remember seeing some , on the Studebaker parts site.
I remember those videos & seeing the Chevrolet in a falling down chicken(?) barn with some corvairs & a 1st gen Ranchero...the best part (for me) was when you & your Mrs. pullstarted that Studebaker Packard 👍 also, l think that seat looks a heap mo' betta' than what you started with...that car's come a long way & wasn't all that easy - l remember the exhaust manifold install
Thanks for the updates on the cars. The Hawk interior looks pretty nice. I think you did a great job on it. It can always be improved on if you think it needs it like more padding and such. Glad to see you were able to get all the glass for the 39 Chevy. That is a handsome car. Hope everything is ok with you and your family. Looking forward to seeing what you are up to next.
I'm glad along with many to see your car project updates. Grateful for whenever you get the time to do them with your super busy project lists! Steam and cars are a complex passion, Jonathan. I'll follow along with whatever you're working on. Take care of yourself first!
My favorite car is Studebaker Golden Hawk -57, and even a Silver Hawk -57 is fantastic. Studebaker build the best cars in America in the 50:s. Fantastic constructions and leading technology. I the 40:s they had Hill Holder as an option (today the manufacturers are bragging about that function). I would love to buy your Golden Hawk.. I should fit perfectly in my garage (if it's not to long)..
I have always loved those Studebaker Hawks. A buddy of mine had one , as I recall the overdrive kicked in when you got above a certain speed and just let off on the gas and get back on it again it would shift. Gary from Raleigh
YES!!! Any thing but STEAM ENGINES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I like how you explain your work & do it> The stream engines stuff just not into it. I'll keep checking in on your videos, stay safe!! A friend in Pa. Robin Jo
I remember both of those cars. Good to see them again! Watching you fix the Chevy body and frame damage was very interesting. Thanks, and Meow to Ninja Catscan.
Oh boy am I glad to see you get back to your cars I was never into the steam engines so I quit watching you for a while let's see you don't call it patina you call it rust let's cover that rust
Seeing you pulling out that '39 with the formed lead shape was what really first turned me on to your channel! It was almost like 'Christine' to see the damage being undone. Always been appreciative of *everything* since. Hope I live long enough to see you get back to the Herald drag car one day - even just for a little visit like this, maybe...?
I am usually not a fan of 'modern' rims on classic cars, but I too think that these rims really do look good and work surprisingly well for this Studebaker.
I've had nice cars and not so nice cars and I always have more fun in the not so nice cars, because I don't have to worry that someone is going to scratch the paint or door ding them. I get flack from some of the guys when I drive my cars to shows and the local car clubs won't let you join unless your vehicle is finished. Glad you're doing car stuff again. Lefty (San Diego, Ca.)
👍👌👏 I think that the white green seats are looking fabulous and I wish that I could sew half as good as you. The Studebaker is a really beautiful car. Especially if it's white and green inside and outside. I love to see you doing car stuff again. With joy I watch any content that you put out, I just realised how much I missed the vehicle stuff. It's a long time since you worked on oldtimer cars respectively since you built the roadster. I'm glad to hear that it gets painted finally. You mentioned eventually selling the Studebaker. Maybe selling some of your vehicles is a good Idea because staying around do them no good. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards, luck and especially health to all of you.
It's nice to see your videos again. It's like you were working on the 39 and then nothing. I looked for videos and could not find a thing. Every once in a while, I'd look you up and couldn't find any videos giving updates. As long as you are back, I will watch all of your videos. Definitely looking forward to the progress on the Studebaker and the 39 Chevrolet.
It's amazing the amount of skill is required to recover seats. My late father did upholstery. I will I wish I had learned more from him! I do have his sewing machine.
LOL somebody's got to say it I thought this was a steam-engine channel 😂😂😂 It's nice to get a little bit of car stuff again every once in a while keep up the great work
There are so few old cars on the road in the UK people don't seem to complain about what condition they are in. Survivors or barn finds are often kept as they are externally. Keep up the great work.
Great to see the old 1956 Studebaker with the Packard engine. I’ll be looking for the rockers and anything else you’re going to do to this classic. Hope all is well Jonathan.
Glad to see your car videos again I missed them
Its good to see you in cars again.
Me too!!!
Finally!!! Back to some of these wonderful old cars! As for the seats, it's serviceable and better than it was. Each job is a learning curve. You're not an upholsterer by trade, so the learning curve is just part of it. Love these projects.
Cars, steam, upholstery whatever, never "boring" always fun to watch. Thank you sir.
I will drink to that
👍agree

Great to see you still have the old cars haven't seen them for awhile.
I'm glad to see the Hawk and the Chevy back on the channel, I did enjoy the videos for both.

Well... then there's that bullet-nosed Stude. ;-)
Good to see the Golden Hawk back! As far as overdrives, Studebaker actually used three different overdrive transmissions in postwar passenger cars. I agree a cruise in should always be what you cruise in with. Be proud of your hard work.😊
Wow! Remember you pulling out the Chevy, also great to see the Studebaker again! Both cars sure have come a long way thanks to your skills. Thanks so much for the update, really appreciate it.
I totally agree with you about the cruise -in
As much as I enjoy the steam engines, these are the vids that brought me here. And the last one too
Happy to see your back at your old cars Jonathan. They are so fun to drive and fun to repair and fun to watch your process
Missed your car videos, especially the first start videos. Your knowledge and ability to bring old cars back to life is amazing.
Might look up Arthur Gould Rebuilders if you can't find another water pump. I love the steam museum but also glad to see you back at the cars! Thanks for the update

Happy to see any content from Jonathan . A true American .🇺🇸🇺🇸. Pray for his health .
Wow!! I have MISSED YOU working on cars!!
I remember both these cars I love these videos. I hope to bring my 81 El Camino up to a drive in. The paint ain't that good but it was my dad's and mom's car
Two really cool cars. It will be fun watching you working on cars for awhile. But the steam engines are also fun. Thanks Jonathan 👍🇺🇸
Welcome back, Jonathan W, auto revivalist. We love Jonathan W, tinker; Jonathan W, sawyer; Jonathan W, historian; Jonathan W, steam punk, but you were the guy who hooked us first.
I live in South Bend, Indiana, about 10 miles from the Studebaker factory location.
Love that Studebaker. Neighbor used to call them Studmakers. LOL
Just love those two cars! Can’t wait to see you work your magic on those babies Jonathan, thx for all your great content, Paul from Canada.
Glad to see Jonathan working on cars again. I haven't watched in quite awhile.
Very glad to see you taking some time with the old cars again. But all your video's are interesting...
Its nice to see you getting your inspiration back
wow...man.."Noah"!! taking me back..
Yay! A non-steam video! I hope you get back on the Whippet and Franklin as well. And the Triumph drag car. And the straight-8 roadster pickup. And............
Thanks for getting back into car stuff, that’s when I started watching. I will add, enjoyed the drag line rebuild as well.
Really like that 39 Chevy and the Studebaker I would drive them both!
What a fantastic couple of cars! Nice to see them again; I look forward to watching them come together... Cheers from Canada!
Great video thanks Jonathan
I am very glad you are doing car videos again.

I remember when you got that and this is my favourite car you own. I would love to own that but im in UK so shipping is not cheap.
Glad to see you back on some cars. The overdrives were R10 and R11. Very similar the biggest difference being 3 pinion vs 4 pinion planetary gears.
Good to see you back on the Hawk & the 39 Ford. The glass on the Hawk looks great.
Hope to see the Hawk in a test run for a mile!! just keep doing what you do. Thanks!!
Looking forward to watching you complete these projects.

I've taken my restored 1958 and 1960 Wheel Horse garden tractors to a car show before, some people liked 'em and some people didn't.
I was wondering about theses cars, good to see them back. You might be able to find a rebuild kit for the hawk pump, I remember seeing some , on the Studebaker parts site.

Fantastic work
Jonathan, don't apologize for the work you do. The Golden Hawk is much better now than when you started
I'm glad along with many to see your car project updates. Grateful for whenever you get the time to do them with your super busy project lists! Steam and cars are a complex passion, Jonathan. I'll follow along with whatever you're working on. Take care of yourself first!

Always been appreciative of *everything* since.

This video makes me so happy!
Glad to see some CAR stuff. I watch all your videos. But I really like the car and the Roll Back videos. Thanks for the great videos.
I think the rims look really good on the car

It's nice to see your videos again. It's like you were working on the 39 and then nothing. I looked for videos and could not find a thing. Glad you are doing the Studebaker and Well said about the Cruisin Jonathan and the 39 coming along Nice
It's amazing the amount of skill is required to recover seats. My late father did upholstery. I will I wish I had learned more from him! I do have his sewing machine.
Those are both beautiful cars, glad someone is enjoying and trying to keep them alive. The 30s through the 40s had some the best looking cars.
LOL somebody's got to say it I thought this was a steam-engine channel 😂😂😂
It's nice to get a little bit of car stuff again every once in a while keep up the great work
You won't find another Studebaker car exactly like that one! So please, keep it Johnathan and enjoy it! 😉
There are so few old cars on the road in the UK people don't seem to complain about what condition they are in. Survivors or barn finds are often kept as they are externally. Keep up the great work.
