The woman singing with The Pet Shop boys was Dusty Springfield, a huge star from the '60s with hits of her own including "Wishing and Hoping", "I Only Want to Be with You", "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me", and "Son of a Preacher Man".
Fantastic selection and reaction, thanks! This is certainly one from the cream of the crop of their discography. I hope you try Always On My Mind next :)
My absolute favorite Pet Shop boys tune!!!! I literally wore the 7" single out by playing it non-stop. This was also a great comeback for Dusty Springfield!!
One of my favorite tracks! Pet Shop Boys - and the late, great pop/soul songstress Dusty Springfield, whose fabulous voice went forever quiet way too soon...💜
That “lady” is Dusty Springfield, a 60’s pop music goddess. Back in the day she was friends with Jimi Hendrix (check out their duet “Mockingbird”) and she also had a hand in getting a then unknown band named Led Zeppelin a recording contract. She was an amazing woman.
I'm a prog rock/jazz rock fan, but I've ALWAYS enjoyed this one. Dusty(RIP) Springfield's voice contrasts well with Neil Tennant's, and the snarky lyrics/arrangement are superb
It was the height of their fame, they had a lot of female artists of the time wanting to do it Madonna, Kylie etc, they said no we wrote it for Dusty. She was living as a recluse in a motel in America, whilst on tour they tracked her down and convinced her to do it. It was her last no 1 in the u.k.
It's A Sin and Suburbia are great PSB songs, and both got a lot of airplay in the 80s. Just like in West End Girls, the lyrics stand in sharp contrast to the synthpop sound.
Dusty Springfield's line "we don't have to fall apart, we don't have to fight, we don't need to go to hell and back every night" always gets to me. It's the desperate request for some way to not be at eachother's throats.
The Pet Shop Boys are iconic. Their latest album - from this year - is also really good ❤ I missed the other 2 you did, but please try “Left to my Own Devices,” as that’s my all-time fave of theirs 😊 I’ll watch the others after this 😊
Love Pet Shop Boys! Their lyrics are always original, funny sometimes, as in Rent (my favorite) for example. And their sound is unique. They're a huge rabbit hole!
West End Girls by Pet shop Boys was their biggest hit and got a lot of radio airplay. Domino Dancing (the second song you reacted to) did get some airplay but not to the extent of West End. That may explain the views. However, Pet Shop Boys had a massive following in the alternative and dance charts and are much loved by us. In fact, they just released a new album a few months ago. Other songs to check out: It's a Sin, Paninaro, Opportunities, You Know Where You Went Wrong, Left To My Own Devices, Love Comes Quickly... I can go on and on. Don't give up on them, please!
PETER SCHILLINGS - " Major Tom (Coming Home ) Remastered 4:59 min Full Version Rock Synth Pop New Wave 1980s Classic + " The Different Story (World Of Lust And Crime) Official Music Video 2 Absolutely Classics 🎸 🎹 of the 80s Synthsational Dance Grooves
Hard to imagine people knowing the Pet Shop Boys but not their song West End Girls. That song was a massive hit and practically inescapable on the radio.
If you listen to his comment, his first reaction to the Pet Shop Boys was with West End Girls and a lot of people tuned in. It was his second Pet Shop Boys reaction that did not get as many views. That song was Domino Dancing. I personally think DD is also a great tune but, compared to West End Girls, does not nearly have the same recognition factor.
Dusty Springfield - the greatest British female singer of all time? That's an interesting debate. She must be there or thereabouts. Back in the 1960s Dusty used to have her own show on the BBC. There are plenty of clips from it on YT. One in particular shows her singing the folk standard "The Water Is Wide" which she handles really sensitively. It shows how beautiful she was back then also (the beehive hairstyle suits her better than the hairstyle in the PSB video). Another really good track from this show is "Some Of Your Lovin'" which is Dusty in her more well known soul mode.
They (PSB) wrote this with Dusty Springfield in mind and the song actually helped to resurrect Dusty’s career in the 80s. They also did a similar project for Liza Minnelli who had a hit with the song “Losing My Mind”. Keep on your Pet Shop Boys journey. If you haven’t reacted to “Opportunities” yet, that would be a good track to react to. Peace!
PET SHOP BOYS - " TWO DIVIDED BY ZERO " ( 2001 Remaster ) 1986 Original CLUB DANCE FLOOR GROOVE Similar in style to West End Girls very Funky Synths and Drums + Bass. Coolest Vocals 🎹🎼🎤Divided By 🎵Divided By 🎵Zero 🎼 Zero 🎼UP TEMPO DANCE BEAT. Very AWESOME 💯😎 Cool JAMS
IT'S A SIN along with the video was a big hit for The Pet Shop Boys basically about his homosexuality & The Church. The Beat is great with loads of meaning. I prefer the original Domino Dancing version which was a popular song in the dance clubs in the 80's. You played the extended dance mix which I am never a fan of. I saw The Pet Shop Boys 2x's in Concert in 1990 & 1992. Other great songs are SUBURBIA, LEFT TO MY OWN DEVICES, GO WEST & more.

Dusty In Memphis is a brilliant album ❤

My favorite, too. I also love Dusty Springfield..so many hits. Blessings.

Strongly recommend the PSB's cover of 'Always On My Mind' which was a commercial and critical success

Me too. After this, it’s a bit of Crimson 😂
"Rent", "It's a Sin", "Opportunities" are more great titles from the boys.
this music makes me return to my teenage times , yes one of my favorire Pet shopboys
One of the best albums ever ❤

Suburbia is a banger, one of their all-time greatest songs - especially the video mix.
Dusty Springfield's line "we don't have to fall apart, we don't have to fight, we don't need to go to hell and back every night" always gets to me.
It's the desperate request for some way to not be at eachother's throats.
now i can do what i want to....FOREVER ........CLASSIC!!
Pet Shop Boys collaborated with Liza Minnelli a couple years later with “Losing My Mind."
They did a whole album with her, Results, which is an underrated gem.

My favorite group with the great Dusty Springfield, what more could I ask for other than "more"? You should react to "It's A Sin".
Dusty Springfield is an absolute legend! They wrote with her in mind.
My favorite Pet Shop Boys song!
Such a quintessential 80’s jam!!
I like this song & I like The Pet Shop Boys!👍💜
Great choice and reaction😊💛
Yes, check out Dusty Springfield. She was huge in the 60's. Great range of talent.

"Go West" is possibly their best song.
You're entitled to your opinion, but because it's a cover of the Village People hit, I wouldn't put it above their own many great original songs.
It's my mom's favorite. And she's 89! 😂😂
Yep. Love it
RIP the great Dusty Springfield.
Neil and Chris were huge fans of Dusty. Dusty fans have a very soft spot in our hearts for Chris and Neil.
A top tune. PSB and Dusty Springfield. ❤❤❤❤
Dusty did a duet with Daryl Hall "Wherever would I be" from her 1995 album
You must hear "Left To My Own Devices" by Pet Shop Boys.
Oh I love Dusty Springfield, her songs are great from the 60’s…everything from the 60’s you’ll like, Shawn!👍♥️
Stuck in my head forever
Great reaction!
Please check out Suburbia by PSB!

For your next PSB reaction check out their banger "Opportunities (Let's make lots of money)"
Big hit in the U.S. - perfect choice.

Dusty was a huge gay icon and this was a fantastic song - very popular in the UK anyway.
Jammmm!!
Shawn,,you have to do “It’s a Sin”, or Opportunity”
The legendary Dusty Springfield!
In my opinion I love all of their songs.😊
React to their song In Suburbia please. And react to Dustty Springfield's I Only Want To Be With You and Son Of A Preacher Man please.
Go West is my favorite PSB song. The best thing about this is Dusty Springfield the legend.
