Pump around zone is mainly used for heat removal. Since we do not rely on pumparounds to fractionate - but just to remove heat - good vapor- liquid distribution is not critical. On the other hand, Liquid flows in the pump around section are greater than in other section. That's why there may be flooding in pump around section. For these reason a bed of 4 or 5 ft of structured packing is often, then an excellent selection for the pumparound section of tower. The capacity of such a bed potentially has a 30 to 40 percent advantages over trays.
Having said this, I have seen many pump around zone which uses tray instead of packing.

2nd in some books I have seen that there are usage of prv valve for feet in cot line before entering the coloumn why this is not used in modern refineries?

Sir I drew the graph of McCabe thiele method and the point of intersection of the stripping, rectifying and feed lines is coming between the 5th and 6th tray. So accordingly I should place the feed inlet between 5th and 6th tray. My question is if I place the inlet somewhere else what will happen?

In Haldia refinery i think tray tower used in VDU-I as i read in manual there is 22 trays in column....why not packed bed inspite it is vaccum column or am i wrong?

Random Packing has more pressure than Structured/Regular Packing because the flow path in structured packing is defined and structured unlike random Packing

@@SandeepAcademy9 Samaj gya sir...that means packed bed is sometimes used to provide liquid holdup to achieve the proper vapor-liquid mass transfer and heat recovery and to avoid flooding.....
