I recently fell down the rabbit hole of caving videos on TH-cam and I gotta say this channel is the best! The stories are easy to follow, and the pictures and videos make sense and are informative. Good work!
Books are much deeper than movies, or tv shows, once you immerse yourself in a book you’ll realize how much more captivating it is since you have to use your brain to form a mental image of the events it’s much more personal and memorable to you in the long term
I love adventures. But I mean road trips, hiking, walking in the woods, sailing, going to new places. But this is a whole other level of tempting the void to come get you.
I love the videos, pictures, animation, maps, etc... you put alot in to your videos. I appreciate that. I love your stories! So happy I found your channel.
Side note, im happy to see someone who actually learns how to pronounce the names. So many TH-camrs dont even google the pronunciation of non-English named places and butcher it.
I remember reading Martyn Farr's "The Darkness Beckons" at the library in the early 90's and had been looking for it again ever since. I was so psyched that it got reprinted a few years ago and now own a copy. It's the best book on Cave Diving I've ever read. He writes about this incident in the book.
I will never understand why some people would get themselves killed, rather than turning around to re-up on their oxygen. When they returned, they would have greater knowledge of the cave system, and still be alive.
@@knucklez3025 Something like that. I understand some people wanting to “push the limit.” But these stories are tragically stupid. Now the family has to mourn their passing and struggle with grief their entire life.
It’s got to be just sheer stupidity combined with hubris. When you look at guys like James Cameron who do astounding feats but take it seriously and do it properly, it’s just baffling that anyone would throw their life away so carelessly.
of all the channels about caving fatalities, this one seems too be the one of the only ones that doesn’t A) Drag the story on repeating the same thing 2-3 times in different ways well at the same time B) In those repeating contradict what they first said, or they show one diagram of the incident and then show a completely different one saying this is where it actually occurred after describing something different for 5 minutes Or C) saying people found them and have diagrams of attempted rescue attempts only for the last 2 minutes to say they never found him and he was on his own for a long painful death. Please keep these videos coming, they’re fantastic

So Roger died (and many others risked their lives after him) over a complete dead end? Come on, nothing is worth that. Ive had this similar feeling i woke up one day and had no apetite, i had lower back pain like my kidneys were used as a punching bag, felt a heavy feeling almost like anxiety but without the pounding chest feeling, and later that day i got mixed up with the wrong crowd wrong place wrong time, and got charged with a felony that they commited and went to jail and had to fight for my innocence, if you ever get an uneasy feeling that your not familiar with in life or feel like you havent experienced and is weird, play it safe for the rest of the day week or month until that feeling goes away, think very carefully about your decisions and dont take any risks, one you experience this feeling you will never forget it and it will be like a 6th sense or spider sense that will get you out of trouble in the future
I suppose the thinking is that the 1/3 of reserve "safety margin" air is kind of wasted if you follow the rule and end up not using it at all. Also, you've come all that way into the wilderness, and used up your time off, and you're really quite close to being done or accomplishing some special goal. I mean, it really would be a shame to turn back now. You're risking things, anyway, just by being in the cave -- so why not use a little of that 1/3? It's meant to be used in certain situations, right? It's not like it's fake air. Plus, no one will really know -- and when you succeed, your victory will be a little sweeter for you having pushed things through when other, less stout-hearted people, would have given up. It's the kind of logic that some people seem to use when climbing 4/5ths up some tough mountain and reaching the moment when, technically, they should turn back, or the way some pilots seem to feel after flying for hours and reaching a destination and learning that the runway's so enshrouded in bad weather that, technically, the plane should divert to an airport many miles away and endure a major delay in finishing the trip, or how Stockton Rush acted after creating his dream of a deep-sea tourist submersible company and getting ominous signs that his main design wasn't up to snuff, and being told that, technically, he should shut the operation down and absorb a multi-million dollar loss. "I've never died before... why should it happen this time?" That song plays in the head of some people -- and for some of them, on loop.

Why do I, severely claustrophobic, find these so irresistible?!
because its interesting exploring and learning about yourself. your true conscious and not this body
sky diving is safer , and its not even close
Because death is a release.

Best narrator, this person has the best voice overs and best storyteller
it’s AI
@@May-jv3pxAre you sure? Because it sounds amazing.
@@DeDerdeWacht You be surprised what AI can do nowadays.
Yes but it’s way better than channels using the default eleven labs voice!
I recently fell down the rabbit hole of caving videos on TH-cam and I gotta say this channel is the best! The stories are easy to follow, and the pictures and videos make sense and are informative. Good work!
thank you!
@@fatal_breakdown Thank you!
‘Faculty of Truth’ is great too
You know whats exilerating? Breathing fresh air above ground.
Ooh, rock and more rock. Exciting. Definitely worth my life.
I'd never risk that the air is breathable in the air pocket. Carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, etc.
That’s why most divers have air quality detectors, it’s not the best but it’s better than using a canary
Why worry? The air is always good, even on all the strange planets of Star Trek. So breathable stuff inside of a cave on earth is a sure bet.
@@polarvortex3294 Haha that is such a good point!
Guys it’s better to sit down with a coffee, blanket and a good book.

Yeah, thats for true humans, they are reptalians obviously.

They think it’s a video game
In the afterlife

There seems to be an endless supply of cave diving horror stories. I think I will just stay above ground.

That's what I'm saying!
Yea at some point it'll happen like Scary Interesting. Man jumped all in like 4 days 500k
Probably because he makes a lot of sh*t up! He has no idea what divers (who die) are thinking and what they are going through. Dude does great video's, but he'd also not be out of place in Hollywood!

He has a good presentation, but it's the same stories that many others have already covered. This limits most subs to people new to the genre.
So Roger died (and many others risked their lives after him) over a complete dead end? Come on, nothing is worth that.
As for the casual negligence that lead to this disaster, it's always important to remember that most of those safety rules are written in blood. Someone had to suffer so that others after them wouldn't make the same mistake.
If people sit tight then we will not progress. We came here from sticks and rocks due to our curiosity. Maybe something is undiscovered out there. And explorers are risking their lives to find it. We should respect them.
But they found rocks bro!
@@SnowBird-jc5id There's no progress in underwater caves. They're not astronauts pushing the boundaries and risking everything for the progress of man. Breaking that rule is like a surgeon operating your brain without washing his hands. What could possibly go wrong?
@@polarvortex3294 Having 1/3 as a reserve would be way too low for me
