Remembered this song...but no one knew what I was talking about. Every time I hear "Gloria" I reminisce about this song. I remembered it as a flying dog and was so happy to find this online. Even cooler that it is the original artiste ..... I love it ❤
I'm 40 and I never forgot this song. My old brother and I used to sing this as children. This is just awesome and captures the imagination. Thanks for your creation.
Sally Cruikshank you created this? I remember being very small and this coming on. I would stop and stare at the tv and thing “I want to be JUST like her! I want to sing, I want to fly, and I want long hair” Thank you for your artistic contributions to the world, I’m so excited to have chatted with you❤️✨ You REALLY made my childhood a magical time and place for me. Thank you.
I know the feeling. Sally's style is like she pulled a dream out of your head and put it to film. The randomness, the chaotic, surrealistic feeling that makes you wonder if it's real or not. In my opinion I feel like this is the appeal of her work. To see it and then afterwards wonder if the experience was genuine or something you imagined. Which only draws you back to see it again and again and again.
I'm 28 years old and watching this video honestly makes me want to cry, this video and this song was such a huge part of my childhood. I was obsessed about the art style and the music. This and the island of emotion are 2 of my absolute favorite sketches from Sesame Street. Thank you Thank you Thank you 😊.
First encountered this as a small child in the early 90s, rediscovered it around 2007 or so, and really appreciating it right now. Grateful to share a world with your creations.
I must admit, you've created the best animated segments that Sesame Street has to offer. This one in particular is my favorite both musically AND artistically. 5 stars.
It would be interesting to do a study of people who remember watching Sesame Street as preschoolers to figure what they actually got from it. For me, this clip was pure entertainment, and I understood that the alligator-looking woman was flying through the air. However, I didn't understand the phrase "Above it all." Instead, I imagined that the flying character's name was "Abominall," or some such thing.
We never know the fullness of life until we know the beautiful, wonderful things that are way above Man. Thank you for this wonderful animation! Absolutely classic from my own childhood!
My family moved to the States when I was ten, back in 1992. I barely spoke English and thus my school teacher let me watch Sesame Street instead of sitting blankly through morning classes. And this song.. was my favorite, even though I didn't get any of the lyrics except the 'I love to fly' part 😅 Yeah, that's how I found this video.
@@sallycruikshank I didn't know you replied to my comment! Why didn't TH-cam give me any notification..! I came back here just to listen to this song again and discovered it by myself. Thank you soooooo much for uploading. I seriously thought I had dreamed this segment (considering how nobody remembered it, XD). I remember loving this when I was a kid, but I somehow remembered the alligator as a pigeon, LOL.
this cartoon is one of my earliest memories, i must have been 3 or 4 when i saw it on sesame street. i have never forgotten it's surreal and wondrous animation. it not only acts as a healthy dose of nostalgia but also as a source of inspiration. thank you Sally :)
I’m 34 and I had this tune in my head for YEARS and I didn’t remember where it came from. I finally found it!!!!!! Above it all! Omg. This is so wild. What a cool tune. So late 80’s/early 90’s.
I have been looking for this clip for years! It was my absolute favourite animation from Sesame Street when I was a child. Thank you so much for posting it!
Sally your animations were the most memorable aspect of Sesame Street for me, growing up in New Zealand. I am so delighted to find them again here. You are amazing!!!
Alligator girl with flying fez is one of the best character ideas I've ever heard of, and you made her really cute. The song can bring a tear to your eye.
WOW!!! I LOVED this song whenever it came on sesame street! You cannot forget the borderline creepy, yet magnetizing animation along with the catchy tune. I'm in my twenties now, but this cartoon will forever be ingrained in me...Sesame Street isn't the same...
Whoa. I was watching "Don't Go In the Basement" and suddenly was reminded of this (which I'd forgotten all about) and sure enough, here it is. Funny how memory comes and goes like that.
Something I always liked about this is one thing I noticed that's admirable about her (the alligator woman in the cartoon) is that she adapted her song and didn't mind that she was no longer flying above everything. It could have easily gone the other way, spinning her propeller hat faster so she could be above the dove and clouds, and then spin it even faster to be above airplanes, and then find herself in real trouble trying to stay above everything. I'm imagining funny alternate verses where she's floating in the stratosphere, enjoying her pyrrhic victory of being above _everything_ only to notice a satellite floating above her.
Beautiful animation, and having grown up watching and loving Sesame Street, this one is that is up there with the best. This type of work gives me hope. Now looking at the world differently, with children of my own, I ask, "What is next. Can we deliver more educational television that makes a difference in today's broken 'corporate' world? "
This is my favorite Sesame Street song that you created. It brings me back memories of when I was a small child. By the way, you should delete the longer version because of the black on the end and the off-color. The good side is it's a great video. Thank you for posting this.
You know, this is a pretty unique concept to introduce to kids -- to appreciate how small humanity is on the cosmic scale of things -- and what a fun and kid-friendly way to present it: Using "above and below" as an analogy for the larger idea and putting it to a catchy song with vivid animation. Good one, Sesame Street! (Also, it was fun to stumble on this and find it was real, and not one of my childhood fever dreams. Nostalgia!)

Thanks T B . I wish they ran them too. They may not even have decent media to run. The first three songs I did, (this is one of them), I sent the original film negatives to Sesame Street at conclusion. With songs I did after that they told me not to bother sending the film, just to send the 1" master videotape. Videotape gets corrupted pretty easily. For the later ones, I kept the film negatives and have printed low fade 35mm prints which are in the Academy. A couple of years ago I tried to find out if they had the tapes of those first three, spoke to someone in their archives- they really had no idea. :(
