I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. @@LowCountryFishing What if you just put tape on the knot but not the whole spool is that ok ? )For spinning) for backing bc I want to know if it would slip if I didn’t put it on the whole reel
Hey Adam, thanks for the question and support. TackleDirect.com and Tacklewarehouse.com has good prices normally. Dicks sporting goods in Savnanah and Pooler just recently had a sale on them buy 4 get 1 free, so I loaded up. came to $3.25/pack
Dude my favorite spinning reel ever made can’t find em anymore even on eBay. Bass pro Johnny Morris carbon lite 2.0 resembled the fj so I bought me one pretty close on feel and durability as the fj.
I use that same exact set up at the Savannah jetty for trout, slot redfish, and sheepshead. The only thing that changes is I use a little bit more weight to get the lure down in the water column and if I’m target and sheep head, I switch to a bottom dropper loop set up with crabs.
@@LowCountryFishing Thanks for the response. If fishing bottom at the jetty, I would imagine water flow is stronger and would need a good 4+ oz sinker, perhaps pyramid sinkers? Never been and Looking to get out there next month with a buddy! Thank you.!
Nelson Nance around docks are a great place to target reds. Wade fish the north side of tybee island. It’s tough to fish from bank in Savannah. Not a lot of quiet public places. Look at a satellite map and find road accessible spots. There is a creek on the east side of McWhorter Drive that is accessible by foot. Fish around the downed trees.
I have a question. Ive gotten many answers for. But always different. I also live here in savannah and fish regularly. But im always down to learn. But you said the fish cant tell the difference in line color. So why use a leader in the first place? Ive caught fishbusing my main braided line and with leader the only time i had issues was using a black metal leader with live bait. But with regular line braided or mono ive never really seen a difference. Just wanted to know your stance on it? Ive heard they cant see the color but they can see the line itself which is why mono leader is better but i was wanting to know your stance on it
Hey Josh, good question. I use leader if I’m in clear water or around structure that will chafe my line. I’ve fish both with and with out leader and do notice a slight advantage for fish strikes using a leader.
The fish were smart enough to understand that a line is connected to a rod and reel, it seems they would be smart enough to see the hook protruding from the lure and the know to not bite it.
I know you mentioned they don’t make this reel anymore. What will be the replacement for this reel in store now? Or the newer version on bass pro shop?
You can just get the newer version of the static. I am honestly in love with my new Diawa Fuego LT 2500. That reel is only $99 and it is super lightweight, cast extremely smooth, has 22lbs of drag and has watertight bearings. Once my Shimano Stradic’s finally wear out I will be replacing them with that reel.
Dan great information. I don’t have much luck with plastic bait. Heck I don’t have much luck with live bait either. I’m right over in Hilton head, I went out yesterday and I saw red fish blowing up on the bait but they didn’t want to eat mines. Any plastic out there that looks like glass minnows? That’s what they were chasing.
Are you sure they were redfish? I’m not questioning your intelligence at all but I’ve been fooled to think a large mullet was a puppy drum. Right now the mullet are getting thick and are crashing small shrimp and minnows and can be confused for reds. For another option for sight fishing feeding reds, throw the EZ shrimp from ZMan. Pair it with that 1/16-1/8oz Chin Lock from Zman that I showed in the video or the Mustad Grip Pin hook. Slather that shrimp in Pro Cure and cast it in the direction the reds are moving to and give the jig head small bumps. Let that smell get in the water and it should ignite a bite.
LowCountryFishing so after going back to the spot with what I thought were reds, you were right it’s mullets. Now if the mullet are that thick should I move spots? It’s like when a dolphins are in the area just pull anchor and move.
3o5richierich it’s definitely worth fishing it for a little bit but if you don’t get any bites with that much bait within 10 or 15 minutes definitely look to relocate. Remember the key to successfully finding fish is to cover water. If you do not cover water then you have to wait for the fish to come to you and not all fish move in a timely manner.
@@LowCountryFishing I do need a new rod so maybe I will go to bass pro this weekend and then edit my comment to I "Literally bought everything" lol. I missed a few redfish this weekend and I think they just weren't feeding on some of my old zman shrimps and were looking for some baitfish

Why not of split the difference with main line and use 15lb braid? Just for the extra strength and and security. Then you could still use whatever leader.
I use 15lb now for slightly better abrasion resistance in tight creeks. 10 does get the job done and casts a mile tho. Just depends if you want the added distance
Yep, and that is far more important than those other details. Problem is, most successful fisherman don’t all sharing gear tips, but unlikely to reveal exactly where to go, for obvious reasons.
10 pound braid is always been way too light for me. I used to run 15 for years but I would break it off from big snook and I was using power pro specially around structure are used 20 pound test right now on my bigger rigs true I can’t get the distance on casting That I can with 10 pound test or even 15 but I don’t pop mainline in oysters or around barnacles like I used to. Besides when your fish in the back water you can just about cast both sides of the creek and to the next bend in front of you and behind you at all times So losing some casting distances not a dealbreaker.

I don’t use metal hardware inshore. Learn to tie the clinch knot, loop knot and double union knot. 3 most important knots in fishing.
