    In this lesson, you will learn what the concept of an equation is in math and why we use equations to solve problems. An equation is a mathematical statement in math the contains an equal sign. We use letters of the alphabet to be a placeholder for an unknown number. We then use the equation and the rules of math to solve the equation for the unknown variable. We will present various problems where we must interpret what equation to write down to represent our problem statement.

    Formulas do form an equation. Eg if the length and breadth of a rectangle are 2cm and 4cm respectively, what's the area?
    A=l×b=2×4=8cm^2.

    I found it great using brackets to point the results. This is something I learned only after high school.

    The equal sign means " same as"! The left side is the same as the right side. K= 11x 2 means K is the same as 11x22. That helped me.

    What I do not like on literal sentence based equation is these examples are simple . Later on sentences are written over complex .That has been a stumbling block for me. Why not just get to the point of a sentence instead of complicating it with mumble f**k as described by one of my many English instructors ?
