Wow, Gav! That was as brilliant as I knew it would be! I salute you, sir! 🫡 👏
I loved all your picks, but was so impressed to see ‘Electro-Shock Blues’ getting its due (and very cool indeed you own it on vinyl); ‘I Know Very Well How I Got My Name’ was a masterful choice; your story behind the Tracy Chapman pick was engaging and expertly told; and I got a bit emotional myself when ‘When Love Breaks Down’ made its appearance… such a beautiful song that gets better and better.
A truly awesome video, and many thanks once again for doing it 🙏
    Best wishes,
    Christian

Tracy Chapman! Fabulous Lloyd Cole track, which is one of my favs. Really great Morrissey selection and Last Night I Dreamed is a truly sad Smiths song! SNF is a sad movie. I didn't see it until well after the fact and I realized that I misunderstood what the film was about. Loved the video!

Great call with Mazzy Star I'm sure that song has appeared at many sad moments in TV & film. Nice Morrissey and Smiths 12s/choices. I've read E's book 'Things the Grandchildren Should Know' which is so heartbreaking, a tough life for him and his family. Nice responses, cheers Dale

Really enjoyed this, Gav, and glad I’ve discovered your channel. If I had not put The Smiths prompt in the tag, I bet a lot of people would’ve chosen them for the dance party prompt. I also agree that The Smiths have a ton of humor, as well as kiss-off attitude in their music. It’s definitely not all melancholy, but they tend to carry that stereotype. I was a big Ryan Adams fan. I still love Whiskeytown and most of his early albums. I was kind of outgrowing his music before that New York Times “cancel” piece was published. I feel like his best days are behind him imo. Heartbreaker is still a classic though. Also with a Morrissey reference at the beginning! 🎉 Just well thought out selections here, and I appreciate that. Cheers! ✌🏻

Glad you enjoyed- and a very well thought out thread you put together - I listened to my Spotify playlist on the way to the supermarket and was indeed reduced to a blubbering wreak - even sailing has a very sad lyric - returning home to an uncertain future - will she still be there ? 😓

Nice response Gav. Your comment about Mazzy Star being used in Netflix American dramas reminds me of a mini-rant video I was going to do a while back. What I tend to find these days is that I struggle to get into any new bands or artists, as whenever I hear songs by them I'm immediately just put in mind of Netflix drama, as if the music has been deliberately designed to get onto one of those shows. It's a modern malaise. Good call on showing Eels, I'm a fan and have seen them live a few times. Mark Everett's book is worth a read if you haven't already. Good call on showing 'Regret' by New Order, should have thought of that one. A band I haven't seen come up yet in anyone's tags for that 'sad but can dance to it' is 'Everything by the Girl', surprisingly.
