Jamie Dana this is so helpful! From the blending technique to fixing the mistakes 😬 wondering how long did this take from finish to end? I’m definitely gonna try the sectioning technique you used as well. Great job Jamie!
Gorgeous. I learned to use the Secret Sauce. i have it on hand , anyway, (thanks to you) it's not expensive and it just means I don't have have to have , yet another, conditioner to store. Also, the fix technique. Very helpful. I always wonder how you gauge how much space between the sections on super thick dark hair. I end up making them a little too blonde (yes, there IS such a thing) because I am nervous that the highlight might get lost, OR IF i use a wider weave, too chunky. As I watched I thought, "Wow, that's alot of depth. Will we see the highlight?", but the result was gorgeous. Oh! also the clip in front of the backcombing! Such. " OMG! DUH!" moment for me with those clients with that super springy
Wow!! Great video, yet again!! I loved the quick fix for the spotting!! Let’s face it, we’ve all done it!! I love how you handled that situation!!!!👍🏻❤️
The trick to fix the balayage "mistakes” that was awesome I never thought about it . Doing it on the chair without getting all the hair wet, you’re amazing 😉
Can I just say I love how you were so honest with us about thhat one piece not being blended. It feels good to know stylists as great as yourself sometimes have little mistakes. Thanks for the trick!
Yeah I mean it's great for a stylist but it's shit for a client. I've had that happen to my own hair. It looks great in the chair, then when that toner washes off 3 weeks later you see it and it looks like shit. We know it's a bleach job. So it's either retone or go back to the chair. That's the problem with bleach it's great for changing up a whole base but if it's not perfect and you're a natural 2-3 going blonde it's a real bitch to maintain. $$$
Anonymous girl no human is perfect. Mistakes are inevitable. She was showing us a technique to fix an honest mistake. If you don’t like how a bleach and tone looks on darker brown hair than get something that’s easier for YOU and your budget. No one is putting a gun to your head forcing you to be blonde at a level 3 😂

I have very dark brown hair. I love high lights. Stylist are afraid to use stronger bleach ex 40. I do it myself now and use 40 bleach Schorzkoff (spelling?). I have to leave it on for 1hour minimum to get the lift I need to be able to tone to a beautiful blonde. A toner will not help orange hair. This is what I get every time I pay to get my hair done. I have no breakage but I do use the quality stuff. I wished I could find someone like Jamie Dana❤️. Highlights helps to camouflage my grays.

I love that you went the extra mile to take the few couple of minutes to fine-tune the pieces that were off. That makes such a difference! It is so hard to find a stylist who is an extreme perfectionist and genuinely cares about the final results. Usually people are just looking to get paid and rush through it. Looks great! I'm really happy I found you on youtube! I'm still in hair school, and even though I'm a barber I feel like I learned alot and I cant wait for more videos! I enjoy how educational you are at explaining, and how clearly you speak. Keep up the beautiful work!
I once had a stylist notice a piece of my hair that didn't get bleached and it made it look like a dark spot in the back, and she told me she could fix it if I came back next time (she recommended i came back again to lighten my color because it was orange). I paid and then I found out I would have to actually make another appointment and pay again just to have her fix it. I ended up emailing the shop pictures later and I was able to go back and get it fixed (they just dyed my whole hair blonde instead pretty much). The whole experience was uncomfortable (especially having to go back) so I LOVE that you recognize to fix what you see. I'm still nervous to go back to a salon after that :/
Hi! So I’m doing my hair at home (I know yikes) and I also have super long hair. Anyways, my question is how/ when do you get out the teasing? Because I know if I did it after I washed it, it would be a permanent nest in my hair. So when do you comb that part out?
I had my hair done recently (like 2 days ago) and the color came out about the same idk what to do next any shampoo& conditioner recommendations or how long should I wait to wash after getting done.

Does the "blending agent" area that you add lightener to end up diluting the lightener causing a warmer area? Love this technique but nervous about having conditioner mixing with lightener.
I’ve been a hairstylist for 30 years and have seen trends come, go, and repeat, so it’s sometimes hard to stay excited or motivated. I just found your vlog and you’re really inspiring to me - I had not heard about a “blending diffuser” before and I’m totally going to try it. Thank you!
That will depend on what she is using as far as shampoo and products that will protect her color! She may need a purple shampoo to help maintain it also if she has hard water. Thanks for watching!
I finally used your trick with the conditioner the other day! It helped soooo much!! It was so cool! I actually did a sombrè. She wanted to bring her natural down further, while only leaving the tips of her hair blonde. It worked beautifully! Thank you so much!
Hey Jamie! I love your techniques and videos. I am curious what you feel the difference is in between the conditioner and acidic milk rinse. I absolutely love using the rinse after a color service myself so I am definitely going to try it this way. Also, do you charge extra when using the milk rinse? Thanks a bunch! Xoxo
I just discovered you!! What a great teacher. I've been doing hair for like forever.... I recently got life back to my career by learning all these amazing color techniques. So glad I found you!!
We love how real and authentic you are! Not every piece is going to be perfect and every head is a new learning experience! It turned out amazing!! (Also, obsessed with the milk rinse!)
Your work is so incredible! I use a lot of your techniques in my own work! I do have a question, how much time does it take you to do this technique? I feel I’m a very picky stylist and I like to take my time with my work. It also may be because I use lower developers 10-25 when I do this.
@@JamieDana I'm SO GLAD I READ THIS !! BEEN WONDERING THE SAME ! YOUR A AMAZING TEACHER . Beautiful. What was her starting level? I’m glad I got to see this process on a brunette head with olive complexion. Would love to see a warmer chocolate balayage. Hopefully, you get the chance to upload one.
I love the way u did her blend. I had my hair done 3 times over by a salon who completed destroyed my hair. I ended up going somewhere else but still they didn't do what I wanted. My haie is dark brunette but now its different shades of orange blonde. I wouldlive for u to fix my hair, any chance of getting appt with you pls??

Hi just wanted to come on here and say i watched alot of your videos before my first balayage/ foilayage today and your techniques helped me so much im still a student and this was my biggest fear and thanks to yur help i killed it thank you for your post they have helped me so much
hello!! I really love this video, but I would like to ask, what is the “blending agent” ? is it only clear, what you put close to the roots? I am soo curious! but you are brilliant ❤️
When i used conditioner to blend like u it didn't lift very well :((( thanks for the tip at the end:) i never thought of washing it out with a towel to fix a wierd spot
Jamie, I need a very ashy, smoky formula using shades EQ for a client that I am doing a balayage on . Level five tinted hair, lightning to a level eight. Thank you!
Question: what caused the blotchy spot? Was it the light blending over the blending agent or not enough pressure in the area? Did it accidently touch the tease? Or is it because the toner did not touch the area? Really I did not notice it but I am glad I watch WHAT TO DO in that case. Thank you for that.
Love love love that spotty trick!!! Omg. Thank you for mentioning that. I feel like us stylists are always pressured to turn out perfect hair in one shot and that’s not always the case ♥️
Love how you showed the correction piece. I have done that too (have had to correct a small section) and it stinks when it happens but yes, keeps you in control.
All the best hair stylists (like you) live so far from me 😔 I can’t find anyone to work with my hair like this. Mine is very similar to this client - very dark, very thick. I get my hair done maybe once or twice a year - it takes hours and hours and I feel stylists end up rushing through my hair once they start to realize how long it takes to section for balayage like this. I end up like hers where the whole bottom layers of my hair look mostly unchanged. Ahhh. Just wish I could find a stylist who puts as much care and technique into this like you did. Awesome job.
I would recommend checking out instagram to find a stylist in your area! Set up a few consultations as well and you'll find someone. Thanks for watching!

Thanks! I ordered those clips and I am going to start using them at the salon. I use the back comb system but using these clips will help so much more.

I just discovered you!! What a great teacher. I've been doing hair for like forever.... I recently got life back to my career by learning all these amazing color techniques. So glad I found you!!
Aw that makes me so happy to hear!
Thank you so much! I just learned so much from you. Dark-haired clients are so difficult for me.
We love how real and authentic you are! Not every piece is going to be perfect and every head is a new learning experience! It turned out amazing!! (Also, obsessed with the milk rinse!)
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that!
You are an awesome hair colorist and great teacher
So much to learn from you
Thanks a ton
Your work is so incredible! I use a lot of your techniques in my own work! I do have a question, how much time does it take you to do this technique? I feel I’m a very picky stylist and I like to take my time with my work. It also may be because I use lower developers 10-25 when I do this.
This takes me between 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours :) Thanks for watching!
@@JamieDana I'm SO GLAD I READ THIS !! BEEN WONDERING THE SAME ! YOUR A AMAZING TEACHER . I def want to use these techniques along with some higher up foils I like less of the roots, and I also am going to have to bump my base a level but thank you girl ! I have been watching and following you for awile !! So I can do it .. I'm going to use more of THIS TECHNIQUE WITH MY MIL , SHE HAS THAT DARK BASE : ) .. I gotta add in some Auburn for her as well too.. so I'm researching to freshen my brain on what I need to order for her service . : )
We are human so mistakes happen but That extra time to fix/adjust your work is so crucial because clients appreciate your honesty and integrity. Even if they seem a little annoyed they truly respect you for it and it sets you aside from the masses . I love all your videos boo! This one in particular pushed me to comment and show gratitude for sharing your passion . Your innate ability to teach / your execution/ honesty etc. is divine 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Beautiful. What was her starting level? I’m glad I got to see this process on a brunette head with olive complexion. Would love to see a warmer chocolate balayage. Hopefully, you get the chance to upload one.
At the start she said the client had level 5 virgin hair at roots and mids..
@@starsunmoon30 thanks!
@@starsunmoon30 what was she using for the blending...blending agent
I love the way u did her blend. I had my hair done 3 times over by a salon who completed destroyed my hair. I ended up going somewhere else but still they didn't do what I wanted. My haie is dark brunette but now its different shades of orange blonde. I wouldlive for u to fix my hair, any chance of getting appt with you pls??
Wow it's so gorgeous!! I would loovvee this look on my hair which is similar naturally to hers.
Thanks so much for watching!
My roommate somehow trusts me to do her hair when I have no formal training. I’ve used this video for reference every time and it turns out really well. Just goes to show you’re a great teacher!
The client is so gorgeous! I LOVE the end result of her hair! Thank you for the tips too, I can’t wait to try some of these!
I'm so happy you loved this video. Thanks for watching!
I’m a newly qualified stylist going into work soon & im so happy I came across this thank you 🤍 nice to see even experts make mistakes sometimes x

I'm thrilled to hear you loved this! Thanks for watching.
Thank you for doing a tutorial on dark thick hair !❤ best tutorial I've seen, clear step by step instructions, you're amazing thank you !
Looks Fabulous, and THANK you so much for sharing your tips and technique! I appreciate hair stylists who strive to be genuine artists, and truely care about their work, and their clients!
Thank you so much love! I'm so glad you liked this video.
Its just a light conditioner
No, in this video instead of her normal light condtioner ', she used a ACV, milk cream she says it in the start if video and shows the blue bottle .
Thank you for sharing . I will be sharing and your technics are awesome.
You are a great artist!
When i used conditioner to blend like u it didn't lift very well :((( thanks for the tip at the end:) i never thought of washing it out with a towel to fix a wierd spot
Thanks for watching! The conditioner is only really supposed to be used as a blending agent. Thanks so much for watching!
Jamie, I need a very ashy, smoky formula using shades EQ for a client that I am doing a balayage on . Level five tinted hair, lightning to a level eight. Thank you!
First time waching and I love your work. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. 😍🌹🌹
Thanks so much for watching my videos. I really appreciate it!
I love that ur videos are very to the point and educational. U don’t waste time where u don’t need to. Im subscribing ❤️
Gorgeous, and i love how honest you were with your work. That’ll keep people coming back, you inspire me every day! ❤️
Thanks so much Melissa. I really appreciate that.
Hey Cassandra! It was because the lightener touched the teased area. Thanks for watching!
Can you do a more in depth video on how toners work and how to formulate them rightfully
I'll keep that in mind for a future video!
Can you use any regular conditioner as a blending agent?
you are so awesome for making this video and educating on youtube for free bless u✨
Agree
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that!
Love love love that spotty trick!!! Omg. Thank you for mentioning that. I feel like us stylists are always pressured to turn out perfect hair in one shot and that’s not always the case ♥️
Thanks so much for watching!
I love you are real and even let us know your imperfection w a blend! As a cosmetologist I appreciate it! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much!
Beautiful job! I'm definitely going to try some of these tips. I love the acidic rinse!
Jamie is absolutely amazing!! She's one of the best TH-camrs ever!! I love the way she does highlights!! 💖

Thanks! I ordered those clips and I am going to start using them at the salon. I use the back comb system but using these clips will help so much more.
