- We were so excited for our grocery shopping day since that’s one of the only things we do outside of our apartment these days.
In light of the recent hysteria surrounding toilet paper and cleaning supplies in America, we thought everyone might be interested to see what the situation is like here in Korea, where COVID19 is far more prevalent.
If you’re curious how the supermarkets here are holding up against the virus, and what the level of panic is like, take a look! And remember to wash your hands.

You’re right. In America, most of the time masks are reserved for people who are sick. Especially people who have compromised immune systems, like cancer patients. Maybe this is a reason why western countries are not wearing them. They want to make sure medical professionals and sick people can get them first, and also don’t want to be stared at our judges for wearing masks out. We are glad that everyone here wears them out. It makes us feel safer when we have to get groceries. 😊
Not very different in S.korea just about 6 yrs ago... We did not wear masks in public. Just a few sensitive people wore masks in the spring season when northwesterly wind blew from the china.
But the pollution is getting worse every year in large part due to the growth of the China Industries.
The particle pollution chokes South Korea typically between November and May.
Now S.koreans cannot go out without masks in the winter and spring season...before the COVID 19..
Ironically.. China's air pollution brings us mask for a common thing..
And now... S.korea has a clean sky.. because many factories in china now are shutting down..😂

The reason why everyone should wear the mask is that nobody knows who is infected. Even you don't know you are infected. Because Covid 19 sometimes it doesn't show any symptom. To protect you and others it is recommended to wear the mask.

It's true, ideally we should be wearing masks. But the problem is that in Europe, masks aren't common and they're not readily available. We don't have a big supply, and so the masks we do have needs to go to health personnel, doctors, patients and vulnerable individuals in hospitals, nursing homes, etc. We have to prioritize - if the government doesn't tell everyone to not buy and wear masks unless you're ill, we won't have enough for the people working high-risk jobs to protect themselves.
I was so surprised that while they are saying that, "ppl without symptoms don't need mask", they are pretending to be totally ignorant about infection without symptoms or, aka, 'incubation periods'

lio lai That is absolutely false. Mers outbreak hit korea the hardest outside of the epicenter and it was a lot less contagious and deadly than the covid19. The only thing that changed since then is the leadership of who is leading the response to the epidemic. During emergency situations like this, really the major determining factor of how its going to go for a society is competent leadership who can put appropriate measures in place in timely manner. Unfortunately, the US has none of that at the moment in the federal government.

The reason why every korean are wearing mask is not only protection "for" me but also prevention of any secendary infection "from" me even if they have no any problem for virus. they know how people overcome the crisis properly themselves.

I was in Korea in the middle of the virus outbreak in the mid to late February, and literally NO koreans were panic buyung or stocking up. There was no long line in front of supermarkets. All the shelves at supermarket were filled with everything like food, water, hand sanitizers, toilet papers, you name it. When I found out there is no toilet paper, water, food left at supermarkets in US, i realized i'm back to US. Also Koreans were very calm and no one was in a panic mode even in the middle of virus outbreak. Korean citizens seem to know what to do, the South Korean government seem to know exactly what to do & how to prepare for virus outbreak. Meanwhile in US, people are in a panic mode, fighting for food, water, canned food, and TOILET PAPERS like there is no tomorrow lol
What brought you to Korea in February? That is also when we arrived. 😊 We have also been amazed by the contrast in how people are handling this in the states versus here. Maybe the media fuels panic more in the states? What do you think?
@@TeamRoweGoGo If you think you have the virus in America, you can not get tested. Hospitals don't have tests. No one knows if they have it or not. Then the president says theres tests for everyone, then you call CDC for test, and no tests. No masks. No sanitizer. No temp checks. Only plan is lockdown, not find out who has it and quarantine them. People are being sent home and spreading it.

@@jillthompson6110 Cali here, and malls and most the eateries are closed. the only businesses that are opened are grocery stores and hardware stores like Home Depot and few others. It kind of reminds me of Soviet Union where people line up in stores and buy things that's available.
Most of things I agreed. But the S.K government has done shitty things so far. The people on the spot are really sturggling their task. For example, the Doctor organization(Medical) kept warning how this virus is dangerous and requested even more serious medical checking system and supplies but the S.K government ignored 7times.

의료영역에선 훌륭하지만 결코 아이들에게 안전하진 않죠.. 교육열도 그렇지만 몇번이나 성범죄사건이 터졌는데도 제대로 된 조치를 안취해서 n번방사건까지 터진거 보면

Koreans know they can get toilet paper, water and canned food tomorrow if they don't rush to buy them today. what a cool people!
One of the reason is that we have planty of options to buy. If shelfs of shopping mall are empty, I order online today then I can get it by tomorrow (morning) or the day after tomorrow.
Moreover we've been being treatened by North Korea and many other things for a long time. So even they fired missile, instead of freaking out we focus on finding nice place to eat. Haha
Of course, Korean take this virus crisis very serious but don't panic.
@@Worthy_Life_2848 that doesnt make sense in my opinion. Currently I live in Australia and there used to be lots of options to buy and also on the internet, but people started panic buying. Also Korean government hasn't declared any lockdown. But the government always tells you where confirmed patient has been through emergency text. They can offer you decent medical service at cheap price as well. People in Korea are able to believe that they can get proper procedure even if they catch the virus(mostly). There is no reason to be panic at all in S.Korea. And in the beginning of spreading of the virus in Korea, there 'was' panic buying as well even tho it was not common. Afterwards government putting so much effort into it, Koreans became to relieve and panic buying disappeared. Atmosphere here is totally different. Australia declared lockdown. It makes people feel a bit scary. But I dont blame Australia's decision. Cuz decision need to be made depends on country's situation. They are doing their best for Australian.

I am Korean live in Australia. 😭I am crying now. Since last Sunday I went to several shop and I couldn't find any hand sanitizer, toilet paper .I couldn't buy kitchen towel and rice most I need now .

I’m in the east coast area in the US, and haven't seen any one wearing a mask. People just tries to ignore this uncomfortable reality and pretends not being nervous while grabbing whole bunch of tissue papers and whatever sanitizer they can get in the market.
We have family on the East Coast. And we have heard from friends and family all over the country that stores are emptying out. 😱 It is so unfortunate how some people choose to handle this situation. We’ve been praying for the situation back home. We hope you’re able to get everything you need from the store!

Pay taxation 23% from your income. 11% for aggregate tax, 7% for national healthcare and 5% for the national pension. which would lead you to prison if you refuse. Average income in America would pay 30% to 45% to the government from your income if it's in KR. If you are a business owner, you would pay more than double than your employees. This is a fuxking hell

I must confess about two or three weeks ago i was watching these videos of toilet paper shortage happening in Japan that made a bit anxious and ended up going to my local shop and bought an extra bundle. There was plenty of toilet paper of course. And I felt bad that I was overreacting. Then i see whats happening in other countries now. And I have learned that we need to stay calm and so that we can get this through all together. I live in a tiny village in Jeju and I came to Seoul and magically stumbled upon this store selling masks! It was actually a special promo to support people for this time of madness. I only got enough ones for each of my family and that's it. I had a tempting thought of getting more for a second. But I didn't. No more than I needed. And I need to stop comsuming too much negative coronavirus news.
We can fight through this!

I just moved to Yongin in December. Everytime I go to the grocery store or mart I'm still amazed at how nothing is out of stock. I also like the system they have for getting masks at the pharmacies.

We wear masks for others and ourselves. Also in korea when you order groceries in internet, you can have it in a day because we have good delivery system. The government keep share the information of the cases to citizens by urgent text massage. The citizens always try to keep their hand clean and not to buy things too much but leave them for others.

미국에서는 아직도 마스크 쓰면 바보 취급 당하거나 이상한 눈으로 쳐다 봅니다. 마스크는 이미 바이러스가 퍼지기 전에도 솔드아웃이었고 지금도 찾아 볼 수가 없어요. 정말 한국에 사는 분들이 부럽습니다.

진짜 코로나 초창기 때 미국사시는 유튜버 분 영상 보는데 마스크쓰면 오히려 이상하게보고 음식점 웨이팅은 여전히 길다는 말씀 보고 놀랐었어요

Not to mention no panics and buying frenzy in Korea but your masks look awesome! In the US, wearing masks are taboo and also government discouraged public to wear mask due to shortage. But wearing masks have two main benefits (as long as there are plenty masks) 1) slow down the spread of the virus by sick people and 2) gives additional sense of psychological comfort by people who are wearing the mask. So wearing masks by everyone is more beneficial rather than not as long as there are enough supplies in the US. I wish I could live in Korea.

One thing that took part in this is a really quick deliverying system. I ordered some groceries at 10am and got them at 3pm the same day. This was surprising even to me
Like other countries, it wasn't very common to wear a mask in public in South korea for about 5 to 10 years ago. But as China's air pollution got worse, we suffered from the fine dusts when northwesterly wind blew from the china. The particle pollution chokes S.Korea typically between November and May. So it became very natural to wear a mask 'outside' to protect ourselves in the winter and spring season...before the COVID 19...when going out.
And in 2015, with MERS, it became natural to wear a mask 'Indoors' as well as using hand sanitizer to prevent infectious diseases.
한국에서도 5-10년 전만 해도 마스크를 쓰고 다니는 것이 일반적이지는 않았어요. 그러나 중국의 대기오염이 심해지면서, 중국에서 바람이 불어오는 11월-5월에 미세먼지로 외출시에 고통을 받게 된 거죠. 그래서 한국에서는 그것을 막기위한 좋은 성능의 마스크가 개발되었고, 외출시에 미세먼지로 부터 호흡기를 보호하기 위해 마스크를 착용하는 것이 당연시 되었습니다.
그리고 2015년 메르스를 겪으면서, 감염병 예방을 위해 손 소독제 사용과 동시에, 실내에서도 마스크를 쓰는 것이 자연스러운 모습이 되었습니다.

The reason why Korean usually wear masks was due to fine dust in China. Therefore, many people wear masks, and it helps the current situation. But we didn't always want to wear a mask, either..

So cute babies...! Thanks for your vedio..! Here in S.korea people are not panic , just so calm and conform to the rules. There are lots of toilet papers, hand sanitizers and other hygiene-related products on the shelves in any mart. We don't see wearing masks in public places as awkward. Rather the opposite. We wear facial masks to protect ourselves and the people around us!!
