So happy you’re back. THIS SUBJECT HAS BEEN MAKIN ME CRAZY!! There’s NOTHING cute about a 4 week grow out let alone 6, 8 or longer weeks. UGLY! And finally to hear what I’ve been saying to my family as I watch these videos “that’s a loss of money in my opinion” is shared by someone I truly respect in this business. Have been watching and replaying your videos cause gel is new to me. I get something new every time I watch. You’re amazing. Your a Godsend! Thank you a million times.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thinks it looks super gross that grown out. I understood way back in beginning of quarantine where you saw a lot.of super grown-out mani's but for goodness sake. File your nails shorter at home between visits at the very least!

And it’s so cheap looking. Why get your nails done if you’re just gonna go around lookin’ all busted???? No. Just no.

@Terese Donahue Idk about you guys, but not everyone has been able to stay home wearing sweatpants.
I’m an essential worker. I usually do nails on my days off, but when my days off were basically cancelled and I was required to go into work 7 days a week. I suffered, and my clients suffered, and I found myself completely unavailable from March 2020 until even now. My days reduced to 6 days a week, but I haven’t had a proper two days off since 2020. And I live in New York City, so my clients couldn’t go to salons, and they couldn’t come to me for sure since I did get sick.
I had a client go 11 weeks because she didn’t want to go to someone else, so I was proud that my work stuck down and she had no lifting. I’m not at fault as the tech, but I do think it spoke to the quality of my work. My nails were on for 8 weeks with me just cutting them down.
Sorry, but stay home was for people whose jobs weren’t essential. You don’t want to come see your tech who is an RN in the middle of a pandemic.

I totally agree. I usually don’t go more than two weeks. If I go longer, might hit three weeks but I feel gross all the time.

Perfect content, and so needed! When salons closed in Washington last March for 2.5 months, I had a client who kept her hard gel overlay intact for 4 months. I had done a fill (well, really, a rebalance) in February, and she was due right at lockdown. I had her hand file her nail length down as much as she was able to get that weight off her nails. While it was a testament to my application (thanks to you) and her care, I knew it wasn't the way to go. It's so funny, because I have clients who keep their nails short who come in every 2 weeks without fail, and I just don't think they need it. I have now started to charge more for those clients who are pushing a month on their manicures, because of the extra work and product involved. Thank you so much, Liz! Welcome back!

Dear Elizabeth, it is really nice to see you again! I found your channel a couple of months ago and I must say that the content of your channel is absolutely amazing. To share this kind of knowledge with the rest of the world (and for free) just makes you bow. I am a regular (hetero and married) guy in mid 50-s that just happen to like to paint my nails so your channel has been a gold mine to be honest. My wife tells me that soon I will have to make her nails :) I play classical guitar so I have had (for a guy) long nails on one hand and I thought a couple of years ago, why not put some colour on them? Your instructions on how to reinforce the nails using gel have also Ben very useful for me. Sorry for the long comment but I have been “lurking” for a while and seeing you again just made a little happy so I felt I had to comment. Take care!

Great to see you back again Liz, Healthy and Beautiful! This is the Greatest video ever!! I do not like the looks of a well manicured set of nail that grow out so far they look like claws. Why spend that kind of money to make them beautiful and then turn UGLY. Your losing money!! I had a lady come in to my salon bragging I'm over due, I left them on to long. Well needless to say every nail was green except her one pointer finger. Think about what is happening underneath and she did not get her nails done by me. Wonderful Advise!! Thank you Liz!!

Love luminary! I used to have the worst lifting issues. My job is physically demanding on my hands, and I was still figuring out nail prep. I used to be fixing a nail most nights, and now I usually can go about 2 weeks. I actually just did 3 weeks because I simply couldn't get to them, and the only lifting I had was where the free edge of one nail pulled away from the product. I absolutely had to file down the existing structure and start fresh to rebalance them, and it to forever, but I absolutely have you to thank for helping me with both technique and product.

Yeeeessss! It’s so good to see you, Liz. Really happy to see you looking well and great content as usual! I often wonder how many people even consider the damage that could be going on underneath those immaculate but heavily grown out gels or acrylics. It looks terrible and makes me nervous to see nails like that. 😬Personally, when I e-file off hard gel to my safety base layer at the 4 week mark, I’m always expecting something on at least a couple of nails, even on short nails. And for that reason, I never use pink base gels unless they’re a little translucent. Love from deepest darkest Sussex, 🇬🇧💕

I wouldn't even consider leaving my infill so long, because i struggle with onycholysis, and i have to be careful to get my nails shortened at the first sign of separation. Luckily, I can do my fills and a full set myself. I've trained as a nail tech, but i haven't got round to the exam (note to self; must sort that out). It's been a godsend during lockdown, which we're on the third lockdown on my city in the UK. I go to my nail salon because it relaxes me, pampers me and the staff are great.

I broke a nail about 6 months ago. It wasn't too far into the natural nail but it did actually crack my natural nail. Was so painful. I immediately filed down the length and bandaged it but it still hurt so bad every time my finger touched anything, so I went ahead and cleaned it really well (yikes!) and basically put a little spine of polygel across the break so it would quit bending every time my finger touched something, and that pretty much completely alleviated the pain while the wound healed.

Great video. I usually go 2 weeks between doing my infill but this past time it was 3 weeks and I couldn't wait to shorten and infill. The feel of my nails really bothered me. (I waited because I had ordered some new products that I wanted to try).
As for the 8 week growth-i don't understand why someone would wait that long. Not only is it a risk to your nail bed it looks awful! If you can't get in to a nail tech then shorten them down. Just my opinions 😉

I used to get my nails done very regularly. At one point, I noticed my nail edges, where the hypynechium? Has been pushed back over half way up my nails. My nails are not naturally shaped this way (the white extends all the way around the tip and up my nails side walls). I’m displeased with this new look and not to mention my nails are already extremely bendy as of late 😔 Will my under skin grow back around my nails? Is this normal after so many services?
    Hope you’re doing well!

My nails are growing suuper slow, a normal 4 week grow out can take somewhere around 6-7 weeks for me. I suffered from folic acid deficiency a little while ago (last summer/fall) and now I'm suffering from iron deficiency instead. Could that have something to do with how fast/slow my nails are growing? And I'm also wondering if I should do a fill after 4 weeks anyway even if my nails have barely grown out? After 4 weeks it looks like my nails have grown out for 2 weeks maybe. Sorry for my unnecessarily long and complicated question, it always gets longer than it needs to be when I try to explain things 🙈 anyway, I hope 2021 will turn out better for all of us. Welcome back Liz! 🤗🤍💖💜

Hi Linn, so sorry to hear you've been having some health issues. And yes vitamin deficiencies and diet or health changes can greatly effect nails. Nails can grow differently and even change colors based on our body's current state and for months following. My recommendation for your particular situation would be you can go longer between fills as long as the product you are using is intended for longer term wear and there is no lifting or peeling present. If all looks good and they're barely grown out then feel free to go a little longer.

Hi Liz, I was wondering what is your opinion on the gel polish steam remover. I see it's something new trending now, but I couldn't find a video on your TH-cam channel about it. Is it efficient? Is it something you would recommend? Thanks 😊

Steamers I have not been super wowed by. Especially with the kind of gels I use they don’t tend to work well. They are a good concept but don’t seem to work any better than anything else and I find they take longer unless you’re removing a very thin polish or shellac type of product. I also hardly ever soak off product so not my thing. But like I said it depends on what product you’re using. Just my opinion. 😸

I think we can agree that last year was not a model year and clients were waiting out the closures hoping to get back in with their nail professional. And techs were only showing the awesome strength of their work on the clients that it worked for. Obviously they are not going to show clients who came back in with trashed nails. This was definitely not a trend before COVID, for clients to regularly go 8 or 12 weeks with a manicure and for people to be boasting about it so much.

Hi this video actually isn't about having to go a long time between appointments due to covid. I've actually seen this as a major issue even before the pandemic. :)

Yes, I agree, I posted a couple pics of clients that had to wait 6-9 weeks for an appointment because we were shut down 😕. They were older clients who were not comfortable removing the gel or even filing down the length, which is what I was instructing my clients to do. I NEVER encourage my clients to go beyond 3 weeks, 4 at the max.

Hi Liz. I enjoyed seeing you on Nail Career Education. I am loving your content. So let me just say I am not interested in making this a career. This is strictly for myself. But I do want to feel knowledgeable about it. For the last couple of years I have purchased drug store nail kits and full cover fake nails. I glue them on and sometimes it will last 3-4 weeks. I am perfectly happy with that. It is inexpensive Easy and they are presentable . No one looks that close. LOL. But now the industry is changing. The drug stores removed all of it. Repackaged it and brought it back at double the price. So it is becoming more costly. Now there are dozens of people on FB in my area selling finished nails ranging in price from $5. to $60. and up. All kinds of at home business type opportunities as well. Is this just a moment for the nail industry or what? Any thoughts? Any way thank you I am going to binge watch you videos and learn.

My problem is that I’ve always (since I was a child) had an extended hyponychium on all my nails, so I have to addapt all my nail forms to fit them well. Granted, I have long and slim nail beds. I agree with Liz, here. The look on overgrown nails is not cute, it’s like having your hair done and not washing for days on end showing off your hairdo. Wtf?

Not to mention the possibility of any fungus build up under there if there is any lifting 😐

I think it’s because of the pandemic, people were unable to get their nails done, thus were showing the growth due to no access to nail technicians

While I’ve missed you and your videos, and I get what you are saying, I disagree with what I feel is an attack on how clients wear their nails.
Some of us couldn’t stay home and were thus unavailable to take care of our clients during the better part of 2020. I was working 7 days a week, I got sick working on a COVID ward, and I’m in nyc where we got ko’ed by what happened.
I wore my nails for 8 weeks because if I’m on call around the clock, and sleeping at the hospital, I can’t very well do my nails. So, yeah, I just kept cutting them down, instead of removing them, and my clients wore theirs for weeks because not only were the salons closed, they didn’t want to go to another tech or have to do the hood thing and sneak into a closed salon through the back door.
The tone of this video in the beginning makes this sound like this was the worst thing in the world. No, having to watch a 10 year old say good bye to his mother from behind a window and not being able to touch her is the worst thing in the world. Loading bodies on a freezer truck is the worst thing in the world.
    🙈
I’m still a subscriber, but the tone of this video seems to have dismissed the fact that some places did totally shut down, and that we are still in a pandemic that has not ended.

Hi this video has nothing to do with lockdowns. It has to do with the long term health of nails. This video was not about COVID at all.
