It sounds like the actresses are obliged by their contract to praise these non-characters. Or they are really that out of touch with reality. Maybe both.
This Star Wars wasn't made for you or me. It was made for the mythical modern audience that all look and sound like Southern Californian film crews and creative teams.
the three groups modern SW isn't for: the Boomers who were adults when New Hope premiered and who were blown away by it; the GenX kids who idolized the SW heroes; and the Millennials who loved the Prequels. We have all been exiled to "loser island" by these hollyweird trendsetters, in favor of a new audience. It's not logical, given who has the most disposable income, but I don't think logic is the strong suit of those in charge.
@@cynthiacarter9055 I do remember seeing it when I was 13 in the summer of 1977 on it's first weekend. The funny part is they put Star Wars(it wasn't called New Hope yet) in the smallest and dingiest theatre in our city. I saw it in an almost empty theater that first Friday but a couple of weeks later there were line ups around the block every night. All those people(moms, dads, kids and teenagers from 1977 to 1983) are the ones who made this franchise what it is right now.

Don't confuse the film crews with the "creative" teams. Film crews are people who work for a living doing things and solving practical, physical problems. They exist in a neverland between art, artisanship and labor. They are not a bunch of blue-haired, nose-ringed, gluten-intolerant nincompoops. They are hard-working, itinerant professionals who only work from film to film, unless they're lucky enough to land a job on a TV show and even then they're only a series cancellation (always due to factors over which they almost never have any control) away from unemployment. Again.
Yeah. Yeah, this statement told me everything I needed to know about the new thing. When your leading actors don't even know basic Star Wars lore - completely forget Leia, Mon Mothma, Amidala, and Rey - just among the movies, ignoring the iconic Mara Jade and popular Ahosoka with her girlboss Mando Princess friend. Star Wars has always had just as many important roles for women as men but that doesn't fit Hollywood's narrative so it's ignored.
Ahsoka is overrated and overused at this point, and girlboss Mando princess is a godawful pseudocharacter, who exists only to push "waaahmen can do nothing wrong" propaganda. She is wokeness personified. Don´t even put those characters into the same post with Leia, Padmé and Mon. Even Rey is significantly better character than Booo-Karen the terrorist, sisterslayer with extra steps and literal white slaver. So proggressive of Dissny...

The Star Wars franchise has entered a strange era. It's an era where most of its original and loyal fans are no longer interested in it and the new fans are a cut from a fickle, mainstream crowd. Yet Disney continues to try and portray Star Wars as some iconic franchise. They market it as if it still holds the same hype for the fandom, which it clearly does not. It's embarrassing and it's also disgusting to see how they've mangled a once beloved story. There's also the occasional new fan who's ignorant of why Star Wars is no longer popular. They get confused when you, a once loyal SW fan, don't share their excitement. It's sad.
That's what I took. Such a strange marketing trance Disney is in at the moment. Time will tell how many 'modern' SW fans there are when this show gets released....
All non-woke actors should abandon Hollyweird and start their own film studio producing exclusively non-woke movies in the style of 80´s and 90´s stuff. They would become even more ridiculously rich than they are.
At a Gamestop in Canada i saw a most gorgeous Mara Jade action figure. I then took the opportunity to explain again to my 17 year old daughter how awesome the EU is. Disney murdered Star Wars.
Agreed. All lazy Disney had to do was adapt Mara & Luke's EU stories. Disney's Tron Legacy de-aged Jeff Bridges in 2011, so they easily could have made Mark Hamill younger looking way before The Mandalorian in 2019. Instead, Activists within Lucasfilm decided to make the Force for Females Only. They pissed on the EU by de-canonizing it for the new trilogy.🙄
I think your suggestion of filming Acolyte in Portrait mode in 10min segments was Brilliant!! That as you say Chato would suit the target audience perfectly. No-one else will be interested in it that's for sure.
I don’t blame Jodie for conveniently forgetting that practically _every_ new SW character* conceived by Disney-era Lucasfilm has been female: most SW fans are trying hard to forget them too. 😉 *(that’s across multiple entertainment mediums as well including all the crap female characters devised for such diverse enterprises as hotels, comics, story books, theme parks, teen fiction, etc)
The lack of good moral lessons in Dissney SW is the worst thing. They push the most sociopathic narcissist in the galaxy, Bo-Karen, as a her-o. That is by the way completely on Furloni. He has been doing it since TCW and Rebels. And KK loves it because she surely identifies with her: they are both immoral and incompetent, ruin everything they touch, but they keep falling upwards and the reality bends around them, so they don´t have to face any consequences.
It would be like saying, "I'm so glad this show will finally have light sabers. For too long Star Wars has been dominated by hand held blasters and laser cannons but now light sabers will finally get to shine in Star Wars!"
Normal people: "We've seen the 1st 3 Star Wars movies so often as children we can recite the transcript from memory." Star Wars employees: "Gotta luv them Borg Y'all!"
My first reaction was: "I'm not watching it." My second reaction was: Powerful people and leaders don't say they are powerful, they do things that show they are powerful.
I'll always be grateful to Disney for creating things I have no interest in spending my money or time on. This has left me so much time and spending cash to discover so many new and entertaining IPs. I love that you brought up Ethan's comment on the Lego study on the difference between how boys and girls play with toys. When it comes to women being their new audience, well then I go to Bill Burr's commentary about how women felt about supporting women's only sports. They don't.
I had let Star Wars go shortly after my mother, father and I saw The Force Awakens at the theater. We hoped to capture the magic when Dad, Ma, my brothers and I packed in the car to see the very first film in the downtown cinema in 1977. Sadly, we didn’t. When u said “when boys play with a batman toy they believe they’re batman, but when a girl plays with a batman toy they believe batman is them” I FELT THAT!!!!!
So sad that young boys today are given no role models up on the big screen partaking in the hero's journey...I wonder about the implications of such an absence in their lives..
Absent fathers and absent positive role models for boys is a common precursor for pathological behavior in their adulthood. Including the worst cases, serial killers.
It's so obvious, nearly all actresses and actors of the Acolyte who gave interviews, were displaying a huge lack of knowledge and passion of the lore, and so was their director. Think of it this way, she was the only woman in the vicinity of Harvey which 1st, as his personal assistant, didn't know anything about what was going on with her boss, and 2nd, was never touched or harassed by him. Now, even if you never heard her talking about Star Wars, make your own conclusion about her abilities to make a Star Wars show based on these 2 facts mentioned before. Sorry for my black humor 😂
Chato, this was insightful and funny. One point about making generalizations: I never even had my Barbie (well, Midge) attend a tea party, let alone my Super Heroes. I wasn't my toys but I had them do heroic things, kick butt, and win the day if they were heroic figures to begin with. I'll admit they were polite in their rampant violence. I'm neither male nor gay. Just a girl who imagined boys being heroic and girls helping them win the day, and loving them.
How parasitically sad and old, that these Feminist have positioned themselves to DRAW-OFF of an already successfully established industry. Disney has ushered low-blow after low-blow on the success of those who came before them, by buying the franchises, not creating new ones. Hopefully the wrongful dismissal lawsuit against Lucasfilm by the former sorta-producer Karyn McCarthy will give us lots of details of behind the scenes drama. Thanks for the video!
Star Wars will always remain untouchable in the hearts and minds of true fans. There is one incredible original film called Star Wars, 2 fantastic sequel films (meaning Empire and Jedi) to complete the trilogy, 3 prequel films to round it all out, a Clone Wars micro series, and the Clone Wars series seasons 1-6 to further flesh out a single line of dialogue from the original Star Wars film. There are also endless books, comics, games and other media outside of that. I'm lucky enough to have lived in the world where the only Star Wars that existed was the original film, before it was called A New Hope ( I was too young to know about the radio play at that time). That was a brief but special time. It has never been duplicated. The Star Wars world just felt so open, a blank canvas. Just because a company run by and geared towards a certain demographic has control of the name of a franchise does not mean they are "making Star Wars". They are making the same garbage they've always made and slapping a known brand name on it to try to sell it. This isn't new behavior at all for Hollywood. It's just the first taste for a few generations who thought these things were sacred and would remain in responsible hands. I've said it before and I'll say it again, you might get me to watch a show once, but that does not mean I support your message or work. The only true test is the test of time, repeat viewings, and the Disney material isn't even holding up in the short term. This is truly the era of completely disposable, forgettable so-called "entertainment".
Without being able to explain, or even understand, why... Chato's heavy brown pocketed shirt seems like the most Canadian thing I've ever seen. The video is predictably amusing, but at this point I'm here for the shirt.
I was sidetracked by the eye shadow then the lip gloss. Clownfish could help explain the audience, they used to be part of it. Those earrings… is she picking up signals from Venus? Loved your coverage of this and it’s the review I wanted to see, I always get a laugh from it and a very clear view of what is going on.
You know, if Luke wasn't the son of the chosen one, Star Wars easily could have been centered around Leia and still been a wonderful film. She is one of the most amazing characters in the franchise.
It essentially was already, it's just Luke's POV for certain parts. This really wasn't Luke's time to "go forth" but about him getting to that part of his story. But everything happens in NH because of Leia's actions, Luke just reacts to the effect. Even his Death Star run. He was literally the last pilot of the last squadron. And joining the rebellion? A kid who'd lost his family and mentor to the Empire, in a building full of people actively fighting said empire, of whom his closest friend is one of. That's not really a "proactive choice", especially considering his age at that point.
I know the fact that Leia is a female makes you truly believe the entire story could have been centered around Leia as much as Luke and worked just as well, but think about what you are saying: Luke grows in ways that Leia does not. He starts out as a nobody who knows nothing about the Force and has no power or influence, but Leia starts out as one of the most powerful leaders in the Rebel Alliance who already knows Jedi Ben Kenobi is her "only hope". Her "growth" only happens in terms of falling in love. What you are imagining is actually a romance novel or another Mary Sue who's awesome at the start and then awesome at the end but now has tamed the rogue scoundrel. It would be a very different trilogy. If you can look past an individual or fictional character's immutable identity (the fact that she's a woman), you might see what's actually happening in terms of content of character.
try rewatching ANH. shes actually a karen for a long time. even saying racist slurs against chewie for trying to protect her. the trash compactor nearly got them killed too.
But, Leia would be nothing if it weren't for Jennifer Lawrence, the world's first EVER female action star. So, down with the Patriarchy! Give me Brie Larson as the most bestest ever Force user after Rey! More Force is female!! I want to see a Disney+ series on Admiral Holdo and how she, as a powerful lead-ah (yaaaaaaassss) rose in the ranks and taught Admiral Ackbar how to lead a fleet of ships.
And don´t forget to throw in Bo-Karen and let her massacre some more villagers who don´t want to serve as her slaves anymore. She is just in her late fifties after all, she is still young and doesn´t know any better and it is not her fault! It is all because of Pre Viszla who died over 30 years ago. But he was a white man, so it is all on him. He made her evil...I mean misunderstood victim. Yes slay quueeeen!!!
Hey, it's all cool! Forbes said that Disney only lost 659 millions of dollars in the last quarter or trimester, and also 4 million subscribers, add to that the previous 2.4... They just seem to crave it... This should help them.
I bet Hasbro is soooo excited to waste... I mean release her figure. On the other hand, Captain Marvel, Rose Tico, Insert countless woke toy characters will be really happy to add a new friend to the landfill.
They probably actually are excited. They make their employees take "DEI" training that tells them white babies are racist at just a few months old, then retaliated against the whistleblower (a black man) who exposed this insanity to the public. Hasbro-owned Wizards of the Coast recently sent Pinkertons after one of their customers to steal products he legally purchased because the person he bought them from sold them before he was supposed to.
I honestly think it's because a lot of these women did not grow as nerds. They didn't grow up with the fandoms and the love for it. But you do make a point. A it of fanficition out there intended to make this ships and such (shudders) is written by women in a way to project some fantasies in the stories. I will say some of them are okay. Most of them are just fantasy fulfillment. I am a woman and this is just true. Even within fandoms this happens. However there are women who appreciate franchises for what they are. Many of them in fact. They just don't look like those women, or act like those women and are often pushed away from the creative table by people like Kennedy. It's a shame really.
I grew up with the Og trilogy, knew the dialog for TESB word for word. I never thought that such a masterpiece could be destroyed . These people have ruined Star Wars beyond repair, it is dead to me now
What an coincidence patriarchy and an good amount of the matriarchy doesn’t like Star Wars either lol. Love or hate the prequels, all three are better than all of Disney’s Star Wars movies and shows.

Bo-Karen is dar´manda and she will always be a villain.
I laughed when I saw this. It reminds me of the Gwendoline Christie interview where she told us how great Captain Phasma is before TFA was released.
Indeed. If they have to tell us how great their characters are, they aren't.
lol, they didnt even show her face. anyone could had done that role. she was great in GoT though.
It sounds like the actresses are obliged by their contract to praise these non-characters. Or they are really that out of touch with reality. Maybe both.
This Star Wars wasn't made for you or me. It was made for the mythical modern audience that all look and sound like Southern Californian film crews and creative teams.
“Sheez Uh Powah-FUL Lee-DUHHH…..mmm…..YAAAAAAASSSS.”
the three groups modern SW isn't for: the Boomers who were adults when New Hope premiered and who were blown away by it; the GenX kids who idolized the SW heroes; and the Millennials who loved the Prequels. We have all been exiled to "loser island" by these hollyweird trendsetters, in favor of a new audience. It's not logical, given who has the most disposable income, but I don't think logic is the strong suit of those in charge.
@@cynthiacarter9055
I do remember seeing it when I was 13 in the summer of 1977 on it's first weekend.
Lol you're not completely wrong, but it's not Southern California. It's actually mostly tiny pockets on the westside of L.A. Believe it or not, L.A. is huge and has mostly pretty regular people. These Hollywood clowns are so loud it gives the whole state a bad rep
Again.
That crowd is all employees of Disney paid to act like they are happy to be there :P
Yeah.
Its sort of like how enzo ferrari used to force all the employees at his factory in marenello to attend the San Marino Grand Prix so that it looked like there were more tifosi in the stands than there actually were.
He actually got sued after firing a bunch of people who refused to attend the race and it came out that the monday after the race enzo required all of his employees too present their ticket stubs to their bosses before they could even clock in.

Enzo was a tyrant who made sure his employees feared him and was infamous for hating to deal with customers..
He famously insulted ferricio lamborghini by saying "what would a tractor maker know about making cars" to his face after mr lamborghini requested a meeting to discuss his displeasure at the poor quality of his ferrari.
That single interaction so enraged ferricio that he went back to his factory called a general meeting of his entire staff and informed them that from that day forward they would build cars.
Too this day the most valuable lamborghini ever made is the final tractor they built.
No one clapped for KK. Not one soul.
And then there were female characters in the EU, which Disney in its infinite wisdom threw away: Jan Ors and Mara Jade immediately come to mind.

There are shocking parallels between Disney Lucasfilm's Acolyte brand packaging and InBev's Bud Light catastrophe - the only difference is the other Star Wars shoe hasn't dropped yet. As goes Rome, so goes the Republic...
Are you talking about the one can they gave a person that made all the snowflakes on the nazi wing of the republican party cry and boycott a major donor to their racist party ....that can.
F . . king morons.
the other shoe was mando!!! that shoe dropped man!!!
all this extra BS is bait! even if acolyte makes it on the air who cares?? after warrior klutz who parked his subaru in harlem during superbowl weekend when home team lost!!! and everything was riding on home team winning.....just saying between gangs and angry sportsters.......eh
the disability scooters of rage went over like a fart in a car too....then the vaunted return of captain klutz also turned into the way....the wat...this is the way.....
sorry.....
SW became a joke and if we can;t recognize this fact we've lost and proven we are fools
there is no going home cus back there it's a burning homestead with scorched dead bodies on the steps.....the thing we loved no longer exists, what stands in it's place is a zombo....but we have no weapons in that realm and all who run are eventually ripped apart
the farm must burn into nothing in order to maybe be bought and restored way later down the line.....
but in this the park and kingdom will also burn and I feel the parks will never recover and the IP the kingdom had will end up in public domain or sold off

It's sad.
Chato, you are not allowed to question how much lip gloss
When Obi Wan turned out to be total shit, I realized everything was lost. Now I can just sit back and revel in the failure.
I think that the actress is telling normal men to stay away from the show.
Agreed. I'll accede to her request.
Immediately alienated half her customers.
That's what I took. Such a strange marketing trance Disney is in at the moment. Time will tell how many 'modern' SW fans there are when this show gets released....
I wonder when we will get overtly "male-centric" shows. Pretty women, cool machines, complex storytelling, and strong male figures.
Oh yeah! Bring back the "Gear Porn" Chato has spoken about!
yes please, I would throw money at that.

We (hopefully) get what we pay for, and the crap that nobody wants to see eventually goes down the pipe. All dust and done.
*(that’s across multiple entertainment mediums as well including all the crap female characters devised for such diverse enterprises as hotels, comics, story books, theme parks, teen fiction, etc)
New star wars is a major dip in intelligence, common sense, good faith and genuine moral.
Don't pretend Lucas films were more clever, less campy or cringeworthy.
I'd bet I've forgotten more Star Wars lore than anyone on that stage has ever known.
I just don't care anymore.

So sad that young boys today are given no role models up on the big screen partaking in the hero's journey...I wonder about the implications of such an absence in their lives..
Absent fathers and absent positive role models for boys is a common precursor for pathological behavior in their adulthood. Including the worst cases, serial killers.

Unless you were goin' all the way.
Yes the downside of generalizations. It was research from Lego. I’m fairly certain you’re nothing like Jodie. Thanks for the comment. Take care.
How parasitically sad and old, that these Feminist have positioned themselves to DRAW-OFF of an already successfully established industry. Disney has ushered low-blow after low-blow on the success of those who came before them, by buying the franchises, not creating new ones. For the one hundred years of Disney's success, as a sixy-one year old, it's profoundly sad to see it reduced to this. Thanks, Chato!
They have created a new one: _Tron._ And they're at least as bad at handling it as all the other properties they've bought and bungled.
Letting go of Start Wars is so hard! Unfortunately, I know it's already circling the toilet like a dead goldfish, but I loved that goldfish!
Also, in the prequel trilogy Padme is literally the ruler of an entire planet and a member of the Galactic Senate.
She's one of the few senators that are trying to end the clone wars and promotes peace. Which draws some parallels to current events.
And she is a teen in Ep 1.
......and they totaly forget Mary Jo Duffy was the head-writer for the old Marvel Star Wars comic.... that introduced/developed caracter like Dani the Zeltron and Lumiya..... imagen the old bad days, then a female was the head writer, and created unique and long lasting female caracters....

So, basically everyone's Star Wars vs Disney's.
"If you're attacked by clowns, always go for the juggler"... Dad joke level: Expert.

Even if they make this Movie we all know it will be a Flop. "Actresses who have no idea what they are talking about etc" Yep, totally agree with that.

Loved your coverage of this and it’s the review I wanted to see, I always get a laugh from it and a very clear view of what is going on.
When I hear buzz words like patriarchy, I tune out.
You know, if Luke wasn't the son of the chosen one, Star Wars easily could have been centered around Leia and still been a wonderful film. She is one of the most amazing characters in the franchise.
Star Wars originally was intended for boys. But anyone can enjoy it…until Disney bought it.

This video ended be so great and deep that, I want to give Mr. Chato a stand-up ovation for it. Great thoughts!
Just when you think it can't get any worse.....Disney says "Hold my beer" I would love to be a fly on the wall as George Lucas sees something like this!
I bet she couldnt tell you for the life of her what a woman is lol
None of them can. Even though they're literally biological women. Double think is a helluva thing.
Star Wars will never get back to where it was. Never. It might have popular films in the future, but that magic is gone forever.
George Lucas Star Wars is still fine (except that Han shot first!!!). Disney Star Wars is just very expensive fan fiction and means nothing.
At this point we'll have to wait for Disney to go bankrupt and copyright expire so that there's nothing stopping us from making good starwars ourselves.
