Thanks, a bad fuse was my problem. Bought a pack of 4 for $5.00 I now have extra for future problems. NOTE: My scoter used a 7.5 amp fuse, the one in this video was a 5 amp so take the blown fuse to the auto parts store for correct one. Amazing, such a small part disabled the whole scooter. Happy to say, a quick and easy fix.
very helpful video. my mum's scooter was left unused when she got ill for month's. sadly she died and it no longer works. thanks to your video I'll have the confidence and knowledge to repair it
Good video. I thought my batteries were fried. It turned off going up a steep hill. It wouldn't charge. I checked the fuses as you suggested but they were fine. I was looking for new batteries but then found the circuit breaker. Who knew, I do now.
The trick to charge an over depleted battery is this. A dead battery draws too much current. Replace the fuse is it’s blown. Add a high wattage resister in series with the battery to reduce the current and start it charging. After it gets a partial charge you can remove the resister. Be careful wattage has to be high and resistant low, maybe 5 ohms or so.
i have a gogo ultra x scooter. just bought new batteries, and the meter guage on scooter says very low battery (one light bar lit up) and beeps twice, which means low battery. but when i test the batteries with meter they seem fine. what would you recommend? ty
@@healthyamerican Depleted batteries may test 12 volts with no load. They should read 12.8 volts when fully charged. Keep batteries charged after each use and once per month when scooter is not being used.
If you have a battery that is relatively new and won't take a charge after a 100% discharge (dead), try using jumper cables and hook up positive to positive and negative to negative to a good, fully charged 12V car battery. Leave it connected for half an hour or so. After that, there is a good chance that you can hook up a portable battery charger and the battery will now "take" a charge. After half an hour, I like to leave the jumper cables connected to the car 12V battery, then attach my charger to one of the batteries, in effect charging both batteries up at the same time.
Check continuity of the bad battery, if there is no dead short you can boost it with a good battery for a brief period to get enough voltage in it so that your charger will recognize it and begin a charging cycle. I've done this and recovered 100's of batteries this way. Even ones that were sulfated. Just repaired two swagtron hoverboards this way that I picked up at a thrift store for $20 a piece. The more I use them, discharge and recharge, the more the range increases. Granted they won't be like new but they last about an hour and a half now compared to not even turning on or a charger even recognizing them when I got them home. It's worth a try :) Just be certain the old ones don't have shorted cells by checking for continuity across the terminals.
Lead acid is really a lot more recoverable than we are led to believe, although once they corrode and short out they are done. I have restored car starter batteries to useful life with a solar panel and a cheap pwm charge controller. (Days and weeks of trickle charge.) I also keep a cheap wall wort style plug into AC lead acid trickle charger around. Lead acid sucks for deep cycle, tho. Go with lithium. It's cheaper and better. The problem with lead acid is, it likes to be a 100% charge all the time or it will sulfate. Lead acid doesn't like to drop below 50%. Lead acid sucks. They make Lifepo4 replacement batteries and it is NOT more expensive than lead acid. You can use the same charger if you have to, as long as you uplug the lithium as soon as it is charged up and know that overcharging and float charging is deadly to lithium. Lithium likes to hang out around 40% when not in use and that will actually make your battery last longer. You can use a timer to help prevent overcharging. Uplug before you go to bed, that kind of thing. The scooter industry does not want you to know how easy it is to switch to lithium and I find lithium chargers expensive or hard to get specifically for scooters. They sell them in kits only for certain brands etc. I have seen cheap lithium charger onTemu with the right plug, but voltage varies. You can also get cheap lithium ion battery packs off Aliexpress and they sell cheap enough chargers with. Depending how the batteries are arranged and which lithium chemistry you have, what voltage of charger you need.
This is how you put enough charge into a dead battery to get regular charger to work. If battery is worn out or damaged with sulphation from not being kept charged, it may not be able to accept a full charge and power your scooter normally.
Have the exact same unit before buying new batteries I pop the lid off the old ones they were bone dry slowly added to still water into them and put them on a low slow charge for 2 days they bubbled up real good and now run almost as long as brand new ones you don't always have to throw away the old battery
Good video, but I'm working on an old Zoom 220 that has sat unused for 10-15 years. I replaced the batteries, and the fuse is good. But all it does is "click" in the reset button. The horn beeps, but that's it. Could something have deteriorated in that unused time? Thank you!

I followed your advice and discovered atleast one of the batteries have swollen indicating an overcharge condition. I will probably replace the batteries and then the charger with something that has better over charge protection.
I have a Jazzy Scooter that I plugged in the charger and I push the green button on the joy stick and Im not getting no lights to come on. Both lights on the charger come on. But the charger use to get real warm when it was charging but it seems cool when I was trying to charge the scooter. Do I need a new charger and new batteries?

Do all of the Go Go Elite Plus HD’s have two fuses and is there a screw holding the blac box down. My daughter bought me two new batteries awhile ago and it hasn’t really stayed charged since then . I will charge it overnight and it will look on the thing like it’s full charge and when you start riding it will go down to 3 or 4. My key thing was coming up when I took key out so I unscrewed it and tightened it inside and it didn’t help so I was watching your video it looked like you also had a fuse underneath the black box but I can’t get it up . Is there screws in the black box that holds the batteries in it.
If you mean "battery box", it is held to scooter with velcro and it's weight. Remove the seat and you can just lift the battery box off the scooter. The battery box top is held to the bottom part with 8 phillips head screws. Turn box upside down to see the screw holes. You need a long screwdriver to remove screws, turn box over, remove the top, and see the batteries and harness wires. Batteries have velcro on the bottom holding them in place. There are a number of videos that show in detail how to replace batteries. Mobility Direct has some good how-to videos. Your plea for help sounds like your batteries are not in good condition, have not been kept charged properly or otherwise defective. Take the battery box to a scooter repair place for testing of batteries.
Have you tried daisy chaining them with some good cells meaning a good sell one of the old battery cells a good cell an old battery cell positive to negative negative to positive and then at the end putting the charger to the dead cell or vice versa hooking it up to the good cell completing the daisy chain through your old and new battery cells it might be a way to trick it into registering a charge like cordless drill batteries

Lithium batteries require a special lithium battery charger. Lithium batteries need a special "battery condition meter", the meter on your "mobile" will not show amount of charge remaining properly with lithium batteries. Call Mobility Direct and get advice, they do lithium conversions.

@@myk602010 Figured out that the fuse for the charger port keeps blowing. So as long as we change the fuse every other time we go to charge it then it is fine. Not sure how to fix the problem permanently though.

Any lead-acid that has been sitting in an uncharged state for a long period will have damaged cells. They even deteriorate over time when charged and discharged perfectly. Ultimately new batteries are needed, but often you can get a bit more life from the old ones, though they won't hold a charge well and will die at some point.
@@leglessinoz while they are the charger should be fine it pulls current thru the batteries, enough for the original charger to read the batteries that's all, not to fully charge them totally.. 😉

Two batteries to operate two Motors to go long distances. And some scooters you may have only one motor and still it needs to battery to last longer. The controller uses very little juice.
Just got a road knight mini, 3 wheel scooter for my partner. We bought new batteries and the scooter works fine, except it will not charge. Anyone got any ideas. The charger has a single light that is supposed to change from red to green when charged, but just stays on red. Tested the scooter when we got the new battery pack and the scooter itself and the battery work fine.
Measure your dead batteries, compare measurements on battery ads to make sure new batteries are same size to fit your battery box. 12ah batteries are wider than 18ah batteries. Charge batteries periodically when scooter isn't being used. Recharge batteries overnight after use. Don't leave battery box in hot car summer heat will kill batteries. Batteries last 2-4 years if kept charged properly.
i see these batts on ebay to 30 bucks for 1 but his batteries are 18amh the replacment ones are 35 amp hour batts and there 60 bucks a pop so look carefully
I work privately with mobility equipment-I routenly work with the GoGos, I have several, actually that I believe that the controller is bad on, I've got brand new batteries, all fuses good, still absolutely no power......do you by chance know how to test the controllers?
Because there are screws from the bottom of the box holding the batteries down. You need to remove them before the batteries will separate from the box
Alternately, write to the manufacturers and ask them why their shit products fail so easily and does it have anything to do with built in obsolescence? They will deny that but if enough of us ask the question they will realise the public is catching on to their damn scams.
InTheNameOfJustice ...ok , let's bring you back to reality for a second. This is NOT a scam. this is the evolution of batteries technology. Lead acid batteries in e-bikes are exactly the same. Never ever empty them !!!!! it says so in the manual for God's sakes !!!! Lithium Ion batteries DO NOT DO THIS and are way way better but they've only really been hitting the market in the last couple years you know. If you buy a cheep affordable model then you will get Lead Acid batteries NOT Lithium Ion. add $700-$1500 or more to a vehicle ya know.
Lighting up I think is the term you're trying to use. Make sure the XLR connection from the charger to the joystick is good. And that the cord from the joystick to the battery chord has a good connection also. But you may need a charger. So go on eBay and search Mobility wheelchairs or scooter chargers 24 volt 4 amp charger is pretty good for most chairs. You can get the proper one which may look smaller than the one that comes with a Pride scooter/chair for about $21.
@@myk602010 wait! a 12volt charger may not work because the scooters typically use 2 batteries wired in series i.e. 24 volts , the amp rating will relate to the amount of time charging 2 amps will take doble the time a 4 amp rating i.e. overnight or more. maelo60

96buells2t my moms did the same thing. Trying to fix it now. Any help found?
My wife’s did the same thing. I took it apart and cleaned the contacts with contact cleaner. It’s been ok so far.
I have a older Lark scooter and the charge cord broke so I had to use a trickle charge but now I have new cord but it won't charge! Brand new batteries
Trying to fix my mom's Pride Maxima. We had the batteries changed and $345 later it's still not charging. The chair works but when I plug in the charger it won't start to charge. I checked the connection a d everything is good and we had it at a shop where he said everything in the mechanics like the tiller was good. Not sure what to do next. Any ideas?
Test the continuity in the charger thru the cable plug. Always be sure that the motor locks are in the drive position BEFORE turning it on.
@@myk602010 Figured out that the fuse for the charger port keeps blowing. So as long as we change the fuse every other time we go to charge it then it is fine. Not sure how to fix the problem permanently though.
@@myk602010 are both batteries wired in series, is the 12volt charger trying to charge a 24 volt pack, verify the specs
The lower the battery charge level the more current it will draw charging. Try to charge before it gets too low.
AGM batteries must be charged with correct charger. Also fuses are rates in Amperes not Volts
I think I handle that. Gonna look into trying to fix it. Thank you for video and 411.
thank you. if i had taken mine to the shop they would have charged me 70 pound for a fuse???
Oh yeah after my apology, You know I Subscided!🤠👍
Thank you!!
Good video, But did the scooter start??
Yes
@@Archifx So just hook the deep discharged batteries to a car battery charger and that will work?
Get those batteries for around 13.50 each at your local Locke Supply
Really? Hope they have one of those in FL
Series sum up 24volts and amps remains the same. Parallel voltage the same and amps sum up.
I owe you an apology! I had said it was stupid to buy new batteries instead of charging the old one with your car charger! LOL! I HADNT LISTENED TO YOUR ENTIRE VIDEO! I went back after not being unable to get mine to charge and heard you say you had tried all that and they still wouldn't take a charge, I did the same and also was unable to get them to charge@ SO AGAIN I APOLOGIZE!🙄😔
It’s all good brother 👍
Try daisy chaining them to some good working cells positive and negative negative positive
Any lead-acid that has been sitting in an uncharged state for a long period will have damaged cells. They even deteriorate over time when charged and discharged perfectly. Ultimately new batteries are needed, but often you can get a bit more life from the old ones, though they won't hold a charge well and will die at some point.
@DR_SOLO don't connect good batteries to old ones. It won't do anything of use for the old ones and may even damage the new ones.
@@leglessinoz while they are the charger should be fine it pulls current thru the batteries, enough for the original charger to read the batteries that's all, not to fully charge them totally.. 😉
That's very interesting and useful, but I am an old partially disable lady , 73 years old. Lol I can't do this ... not even in my dreams. 😣
You can't remove four screws, check 2 fuses, and pick up two 5 pound batteries? Come on Aida, you can do it!
@@Njennings42 "Checking" fuses needs to be done with a multi tester because visual inspection can sometimes show a false OK
i tested it today if batery is complitli emty your charger is not wont to charge but if you have like 7 or 8 v slim charger or scoter scarger starting to charge again
Is there a reason why a scooter has 2 battery?,is one for the control panel and circuit and the other for the motor?
Fook Utube No. 2x12 volt batteries =24 volt..scooters need 24 volt to operate..
Two batteries to operate two Motors to go long distances. And some scooters you may have only one motor and still it needs to battery to last longer. The controller uses very little juice.
@@myk602010 2 batteries because they are wired in series and the motor uses 24volts for more powe to move heavier weights,
@@myk602010 what if someone stoled one of your batteries over the winter? (Don't ask) can you run on just one at all? Will it even charge?
None of the LED Indicator lights work...what is the problem? The battery seems to be charging?
So what do I look for to see if I blew a fuse? How will it look different?
@@RichardM333 Thanks. Turns out I just needed to push the squishy button on the battery. Whew. :)
Pulse charge the batteries but 1st take tops off and top up with distead water then discharge to 9v and charge should egenerate the battery to 80 90%
Try to hook up a drill battery to it with wires then try to charge it again
i see these batts on ebay to 30 bucks for 1 but his batteries are 18amh the replacment ones are 35 amp hour batts and there 60 bucks a pop so look carefully
35 amp battery (deep cycle or trolling motor batteries) will not in those boxes. They're too large.
I work privately with mobility equipment-I routenly work with the GoGos, I have several, actually that I believe that the controller is bad on, I've got brand new batteries, all fuses good, still absolutely no power......do you by chance know how to test the controllers?
Fuse are in amps 😉
Do you mean 5amp fuse? Not 5 volt fuse????
Awesome advice...
my scooter only can be turned on while it’s charging, i waited hours for it to be fulled but it still won’t turn on. please help
those are not AGM batteries -they are regular run of the mill sealed lead acid. AGM would be a hell of a lot more than $32.
No they aren't
where can you get the charger ?
walmart
Ebay
you can charge agm batery whit your car you need only start kabels .
Why can't I change the batteries without removing the battery box from the scooter?
Because there are screws from the bottom of the box holding the batteries down. You need to remove them before the batteries will separate from the box
Thanks very helpful
250 to 350 to buy the whole thing
If you buy a cheep affordable model then you will get Lead Acid batteries NOT Lithium Ion. add $700-$1500 or more to a vehicle ya know.
scooter is charged but will not turn on, i I reconnect to charger, it works fine. can you help please.

6v fuse 3v fuse ? You mean Amper yes ?
Yes, fuses are rated by amps.
@@PapillonOne very true!!
Try to Desulfate the battery and make it like new. Never have to buy a battery again
hook a 9-volt battery to the post it will charge after
Fuses are rated in amps not volts
5 Amp and 3 amp fuse
Have a golden companion scooter. It comes on but will not go. Green light blinks 3 times then pauses for 2 seconds. Anyone out there help me??
Always be sure that the motor locks are in the drive position BEFORE turning it on.
Hold joystick forward until it beeps the hold joystick back till it beeps ,that should take out of lock mode
Steve Harris thank you thought my chair was broken but I did the joy stick back and forth and it was locked now it works fine thank thank you
Mine will not stay charged!
Two of them one fifty in canada
Oh wow.
I f your battery charger isn't litting
Up what to do
Maurice Trull
Lighting up I think is the term you're trying to use. Make sure the XLR connection from the charger to the joystick is good. And that the cord from the joystick to the battery chord has a good connection also. But you may need a charger. So go on eBay and search Mobility wheelchairs or scooter chargers 24 volt 4 amp charger is pretty good for most chairs. You can get the proper one which may look smaller than the one that comes with a Pride scooter/chair for about $21.
@@myk602010 wait! a 12volt charger may not work because the scooters typically use 2 batteries wired in series i.e. 24 volts , the amp rating will relate to the amount of time charging 2 amps will take doble the time a 4 amp rating i.e. overnight or more. maelo60
@@ismaelmartinez2347 yes the output of these chargers is 24V, I just didn't realize it. What I had in my mind was that if I had the batteries out, I could use a 12V car charger.

If your battery charger is not letting up what to do
I can't go know were
Buy a new charger
What kind of a battery guy are you ? Fuses are rated in amps, not volts ! 😅
It five amps not volts!
It runs a few feet and stops
This does not FIX the batteries, it replaces them. There are plenty of things to try first before just buying a new battery, but none mentioned. Good vid, but "Fix" in the title is unhelpful.
Well the title of the video isn’t “How to fix batteries” it’s “How to fix the scooter” this does fix the scooter. Don’t tell me how to title my videos. Go make your own channel and run it the way you see fit. This video has helped countless folks.

THE SCOOTER STORE IS TRYIN TO SELL ME 2 BATTERIES FOR 580 OR 2 CHEAPER FOR 380 IS IT WORTH IT ITS AN OLD FORTRESS 1800 1600 SOMETHING
Check with Apex Superstores they're much cheaper.
No! Go to apexsuperstores.com create an account look up your chair and you will get a variety of different batteries for that chair. You'll see 12v 35ah or 55ah batteries. You'll even see 75ah batteries. This is the cheapest place I have found. I've been buying batteries from them for months. Depending on what day you order them you can get them in less than a week.
Research before buying batteries. That brand seems to fail around 6-9 months. That's why they are inexpensive.
They outlived my grandma so...
greenyellow red battery state of charge light dpight i0ntlt light up but full charge runs great just no green yellow or red lights on batt condition
First of all this is not a scooter I don't know why you people put that in your descriptions this is a handicap or a somebody a disability cart this is not a scooter. And also any time these people want to tell you how to fix your scooter they're not specific they try to act like all the scooters are the same you you yourself down to an area on that mobility cart and say underneath here or there whatever and that's not applicable to First Vault nothing on there is applicable to it Kick Scooter
It is a scooter.
5 amp fuse.
Sorry amp not volt fuse.
Those batteries are for a 24 nvolt system and your 12 volt battery charger will not do shit to recharge those batteries you need a 24 volt battery charger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But it charged them so good I was able to build a spaceship off of them
