I lived in the santa Cruz mountains, San Lorenzo valley from boulder creeks to zayante , Felton & Santa Cruz Ben lomond ... for twenty five yrs 90 - 2015 .....This was one of our beautiful old growth redwood back yard parks !! Always feared the possibility this could happen in the drought years ...praying for all my California family !
fire fighters & first responders stay safe ..

I loved in this area 1969-2000. All toast:: last chance road, big basin, Alba, empire etc etc. And our Paradise home didn't burn but everything around us did. Now near Sutter Creek which is smoggy like LA c.1968.

Just to the right of the burned out fireplace there was a display of a felled tree with historical footnotes at the rings dating back 2K years, Sad

I lived in Ben Lomond from 1951 to 1969 when I graduated high school at SLV, I went to school in Felton from kindergarten through high school. My parents owned a small motel on the San Lorenzo River tucked between the twin bridges on HWY 9, 1606 (can't remember N or S) Hwy 9, Ben Lomond. Across the river was the Christian camp, it escapes my memory as I write this. My heart goes out to all those who live and I hope treasure those sacred grounds of the redwoods. Seeing trees on fire at Big Basin, hurts my heart deeply. Stay safe, thank you brave firefighters and please leave when told! If you have stolen from that firefighters truck, his wallet and charge cards, more than shame on you, I hope you are found and punished! Still in CA, but in the Central Valley...

BB is the oldest state Park in California.I just got back from Yosemite and live near Big Basin and wanted to look and compare and appreciate. Still saying prayers for our beloved elders the trees. The wildlife. Domestic animals and always the humans in Santa Cruz County and all the fire zones. I miss you already. Shattered. Climate change must be respected our we all loose our homes. If I had water I would try to put those trees out even with the juice on the table.

Some of the best days of my life were spent in big basin.
Sad to see it burning. I just remind myself that it's part of mother nature's renewal process.

This is truly devastating...to watch one of my favorite spots on earth burned to the ground. I'm thankful that there aren't that many casualties as people have learned to take California wildfire evacuation orders very seriously. These redwood groves will survive this historic wildfires...and we can rebuild what's lost. I pray for all the brave local and state firefighters working at the ICS and the field to tackle these raging wildfires carefully - especially for week 2 of these large fires. Be careful out there!!! Climate change is REAL...as we'll be facing more droughts with rising temperature...in the dry regions.

They're fire resistant af. The wind from this fire spreads the nutrients from downed trees through the forest. Next year it'll be green

Born in Santa Cruz I went to Hawaii at 8 and waited to afford to go again at 49. I was appalled and horrified that just before I got to Maui a fire decimated the area near where we stayed. I thought not here not in God's laboratory for healing. I still love Hawaii as my 1st choice but this is just another kick to the gut. I know the streets, Johnny's for sandwiches before hikes or playing in the river. Each town Boulder Creek, Ben Lomend (been lonesome) Felton, Brookdale, Bonny Doon. christmas tree farms. Places like trees and animals can be family when yours is all gone. so hard to see nature my true living family go. At least the cliffs and ocean isn't on fire. Oil can do that.Leaving out my crystal bowl offering each day infant of 3 wise Redwoods for birds and squirrels and hand full of peanuts. They have been sparse. Usually I have 5-7 creatures playing on my balcony like its a trampoline.

@@adriennebolles711: I've been riding my bicycle on trails to Lake Erie shores for over 18 years.
This last two years, every summer and winter has seen record breaking highs of water, ice
and wind levels. Everything man-made has been pushed up on the back yards of property.
A recreated concrete road with stands and seating was crushed and pushed into a forest.
A 30' wall of ice came inland, roads being shut down. The water level is so high I can't walk
my bike along the shore during the day, up against huge retaining stones and back yard property.
Birds stopped flying south over twenty years ago. Raccoons scratch at my legs for food.
Three foxes are seen on the beach at Crystal Beach, mingling with humans for food.
I have only seen three butterflies this year, so far. One frog. Hardly any insects.
I am happy to see you feel family with nature. Not only is that having a global mind, you feel it.
So do I, my brother. Bay-an-uck-let, blessings on you in Gaelic.

I have no idea why people want to live there. It’s beautiful gorgeous and the historical forest to study and enjoy scenery not for living.
