How To Tell If Your Car Has A Slipping Clutch-Easy Test

  • This is an easy way to tell if your car has a slipping clutch! It is a very simple test that you can do. Get the car revving low (between 2k and 3k RPMs), and floor the throttle of the car. If your RPMs jump up and your speed doesn't jump up as fast, your car's clutch is definitely slipping, and you will probably need a new clutch soon. Sorry about the bad camera quality, but it was quite hard to explain, demonstrate, and film at the same time!

      @@MAdGamer1413 Yes. Regardless of what specific vehicle you have, increasing engine RPM under load without a corresponding increase in speed indicates slippage of either the tires or the clutch. With a manual transmission, once your foot is off the clutch pedal, the engine speed and vehicle speed should always increase at exactly a 1:1 ratio for any given gear with no exceptions. The engine shouldn't instantly rev before your speed increases like an automatic or CVT because it's not.

      A basic mechanics tool box should have all the tools you need for that job.
      The clutch kit will come with a clutch alignment tool to help it go in easier.
      if you have car ramps you should be fine with the level of clearance since the vehicle would need to be lifted depending on your vehicle some you can make shift your way around this jus as long as you are able to keep the tranny stable as you disconnect it from the engine.

    I just bought a car, took it down the road through Manchester and it's acceleration was absolutely appalling, thought it was a slipping clutch, but my dad was like no it's just 'cos your used to a 1.6 litre engine and this is only a 1.4 litre engine - I was thinking I've drove a micra with a 1 litre engine in with more acceleration than this thing - the revs were hitting nearly 5,000RPM just to get it up to 40 in 4th! Took it to our local garage who confirmed clutch is slipping - actually local garage was amazed I made it there with the state of the clutch. Prior to that we had a Zafira which had a new clutch fitted 3 years ago and never had any more problems with that clutch (eventually the only problem we had with that was the power steering rack went - I'm trying to wonder whether it would have been cheaper and less risky to just have the power steering rack replaced!)

    On my mothers 2011 Opel/Vauxhall Corsa D the clutch is slipping as well I think. Giving full throttle the rpms are rising and not much is happening. If i have high rpms though, it has some punch to it. As well when going on the highway (I live in Germany), when going 140+kph, full throttle just results in higher fuel consumption and higher rpm, but when I‘m just a little on the throttle I get faster quicker than full throttle. I dont really know, but I think thats also an indicator for a slipping clutch

    A real easy way to tell if you have a slipping clutch is to engage the car into third gear and slowly release the clutch without any throttle. If the car takes of then indeed you have a slipping clutch.

    Hey I’ve got a 2007 VW gti stage 2 tuned, I have no scanner. Not always but usually when I drive I have misfires and lose power in 1-3(long time to accelerate) I don’t hear any turbo or see it build up much on the boost gage might hit 5psi, it usually will have a rough idle and when I start the car I have the engine light on which will flash for a couple seconds then stay on and gas cap light comes on for 5mins.
    I was told piston rings but when I checked compression it was fine, I was also told diverter valve
    I’ve put new spark plugs and coil packs in.
    What do you think I should try?

    I drove my car 30kms to the garage today,it has 6 gears, I made sure I didn't go past the 5th gear and 70kph. The tachometer was on 2,000 revs however, occasionally I could see the tachometer moving up around 300 revs without the speed increasing. My heart was in my mouth the whole way. It even stalled on a hill when I was in 1st gear. Anyway, car is in the garage for a clutch replacement and will be ready by tomorrow, hope all is well and I hope that the actuator isn't also a problem.

      Did your car get ok after replacing clutch?

    • @marksystemed4678
      @marksystemed4678 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@danbonjovirmaranon4153 Hi, yes it is working perfectly.Just make sure your car has a re-learn after the change Since the replacement on September 22nd I have had no problems, it is now October 9th. I have driven from France to the UK and have driven over 2,000 kilometres since the change. I have even got the VTEC kicking in a couple of times. The way I drive now is that I keep it in manual, that way I control the gear changes going up. You can control the gear changes going down however, the gears will change down automatically when slowing down.Don't worry if you hear a little clunk of the clutch changing into 2nd or 1st gear, it is not a problem. And be careful at roundabouts, make sure if you are slowing down gauge if you can pull of quickly in 2nd, or what I do is make sure the car drops to 1st for a quicker take off, it all depends, I sometimes take off at 8mph in 2nd and I press down a little further on the accelerator. You don't want to go past the roundabout in 2nd gear at 5 miles per hour. Also when I come to a standstill or a red light I put it in 'N' neutral in order to not wear the clutch. I went from hating this car to loving it. Some people say that Automatic Manual Transmission cars are rubbish. In my opinion they are not, you just have to know how to drive them.

    Mine goes up like 1000rmp quickly. Then goes down a little and keeps going normaly. When i do it with higher rpm everything is fine. Is it because diesel turbo cars have really high torque in low rmp?
