  • In this video I check out a 2016 Dodge Charger that came in with a customer complaint of no left tail lights and his ABS Trac light is on. Are they related? Looking at it with the Autel we quickly see they are two separate issues. Let's have a look. -Enjoy!

    *UPDATE:* Customer returned later for the repairs. The right rear axle was replaced along with a new pigtail and light. He also had me install 4 new TPMS sensors to clone his summer wheels. All the lights are off (and on 😉) and everyone is happy.

    • @SimiNelsonFamily
      @SimiNelsonFamily 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@tyg9998, Eric’s diagnosis started with a scan of the systems, leading to the Body Control Module codes, followed by his research of the wiring diagram to understand how the BCM controls the lighting on the left rear and center lights. They led him to the first light in the circuit, which turned out to be the problem. A very methodical approach to discovering the problem.
      Eric’s videos routinely highlight his methodical approach to diagnosing issues, including extensive testing of components. Many other mechanics would venture a guess and replace parts until the problem goes away.

    I like how they have the model name on the brake caliper. Must make assembly easy.
    Why not use a small wire brush on the threads of that axle to remove some of the rust before trying to take the nut off? I'm sure it still wont spin right off, but I've found it usually takes some of the fight out of rusted fasteners. Then again when I work on cars I save money I don't make money, so if it takes a bit longer its usually not a big deal.

In that event you have to have the TIPPM reflashed to turn the circuit back on, and you can only have it refreshed five times. Brilliant! I couldn't think of anything better. Except maybe a fuse?

I recently had body work done on my Grand Marquis and the rear air suspension was inoperable when I got the car back. The body shop had the left front fender off the car and I suspected they had to unplug the air compressor located under the air cleaner. I checked the compressor and no power. Great video eric! I have dealt alot with that issue in those style tail lights from dodge. Most of what i see is on the durangos with the racetrack tail lights is moisture in the light assembly. They short internally and the whole damn has to be replaced.

    Thank God these folks have someone like yourself up there making our way through the soul and the rest that’s eating their cars alive!
    I can’t imagine going out and spending $35-$45,000 on a new charger sedan and having it look like that after five years! How do you have a nice car up there? My guess is you have a beater that you drive most of the year and a couple of weeks out of the year we take out the car are you really want to drive? That’s incredibly rough on cars up there and the poor souls that have to maintain them.!

    I’ve been watching your channel for years and I’m continually amazed by the number of rust buckets that come into your shop! Are there not any good car washes out there who have an undercarriage wash at them?😂 I ask because were I live we have them everywhere! I always take my car to them after it’s done snowing and the roads dry out mostly. I do that all winter long and my car has very minimal rust on it at ten years old. Plus I know you put Fluid Film on your vehicles and I’ve turned my son onto that product as well! It’s great stuff!

      "after it’s done snowing and the roads dry out" In upstate NY where he is at the roads dry out in May. On dirt roads there they spray calcium to keep the dust down. He explained in the video that this customer lives on a dirt road, he would need to wash the car twice a day.

      @chrisfreemesser5707 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are plenty of good car washes here in NY (there's one literally right next to Eric's shop) but the problem is getting your car washed while it's below 32F leads to your windows/locks/etc all freezing up overnight. I'll tell ya though, if it manages to hit around 40F the lines at the car washes get crazy long

    • @richardirish2153
      @richardirish2153 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chrisfreemesser5707 the automatic ones I have near me blow high powered jets of hot air when it’s done washing the car and that helps prevent the freezing. Even if I didn’t have that, I would try washing the undercarriage as best I could just to get as much salt off as possible. I think someone could make a lot of money with the kind of wash we have in the Midwest! We have Mike’s Carwash and crew carwash here in Ohio and Indiana. I’m not sure if they are anywhere else? Not perfect but pretty darn good if you live in the salt belt!

    • @jayjaynella4539
      @jayjaynella4539 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I bet you find that in some obscure state reg is a law forbidding car washes from washing the underside. Oil and other stuff like that inhabit the bottom of a car. The salt corrodes the car, leading to more car sales, which generates lots of taxes for the state.

    • @richardirish2153

      @@jayjaynella4539 😂 I’m sure your correct! The ones I’m talking about filters the water and reuses it. But I’m sure in New York that’s not good enough!

    Thanks for all your videos. I actually just used what I learned in an earlier video to diagnose a problem on my OJT. Shift interlock and most of the interior accessories wouldn't work on a Rav4, and immediately I thought "ignition switch", remembering back to you figuring that out with a (I think) Dodge Ram or F150, can't remember which truck it was. Plugged in the scantool and *boom* ignition switch stayed off unless you shook the steering column around.
