I think its great that Land Rover had the courage to stick with their heritage and offer something different to the hard riding and handling focussed alternatives. For me this is one of the most beautiful SUV designs and blows anything made by BMW, Audi or Merc out of the water. The potential downside is the reliability and I dont think JLR have been quick enough to sort this out - I hope it doesn't put people off this car as they have done such a good job in most other areas.

    • @Superdada
      @Superdada ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Agreed.
I think it’s the most stunning suv on the market.
Just surprised JLR didn’t address the elephant in the room. It seems most potential consumers are concerned about reliability issues.
They could have done something like extensive vehicle testing in extreme environments to prove it’s reliability, even if it’s more of a PR stunt.

You seriously need to extend the headrest to get to the cup holders?? And then did you see how far forward that went?? It completely covered the air vents. I guess you're either able to have a cold beverage or cool air hitting you, but you definitely can't have both! 🤣

These are about the most thorough and sensible reviews on the Net, each episode is perfect to learn about a new car because of all the practical details and observations. Small niggle: things move electrically, not electronically - there's a difference. It's unfortunately a common mistake, but electronics don't tend to move much on their own :). And yes, I share some of the reservations on account of not having much patience - having to wait for a seat motor will annoy me..

I noticed than in Minute 28:48 to 28:51 both the Center and Rear Differential locks were Locked during this period, yet you're driving on pavement. I'm assuming if you put the multi-terrain selector on "Auto" mode, such things will happen, but will the constant locking & unlocking of the differential make them "break"...will the solenoids malfunction sooner rather than later because of wear and tear of constantly engaging and disengaging? (P.S. I'm no expert in the intricacies of these systems, so pardon me.)

Thanks Thomas for another systematic and comprehensive vehicle review. Please continue to call out manufacturers for their persistent shortcomings: cheap key, leather is best, digital instruments vs practicality. Green, beige interior, wood inserts, 22 inch wheels spec looks fantastic. Local purchase cost (AUD 250-400; c.AUD330/220€ for your test drive vehicle) is high. A thirsty V8, reliability concerns, high running costs are LR staples. Thank you from Australia 🙏.

The flagship of Land Rover Range Rover should definitely offer more leg room in the '''standard'' wheel base. Such a great vehicle but if the difference between the LWB and SWB were 10cm, that is if the SWB had that much longer of a wheel base it would have been a dream car, minus the electrified cup holder operation in the rear. Yet, still gorgeous!

Hello! I have written in the past regarding review of the last gen 405 (which is what I have), but now watching this video. I wanted to share a couple thoughts regarding your remarks from the back seat. The horrible lack of legroom on the swb IS ridiculous which prompted me to get the lwb on my current 2020. However the extra length (imo) makes it awkward to drive in city/more constricted situations. If there was something somewhat in-between it would be ideal....as at least in my 2020 the leg room is unnecessarily excessive. However on my last svc appt the service writer offered the idea that the 4-wheel steering in the latest version helps. In regards to the power operated rear armrest and headrest again I find that overkill. I think there are enough power assist features (that would be sorely missed if excluded) that it's more important to have realistic functions. The delay required to make all adjustments can translate into inconvenience. I appreciate your tone, the manner that you do your reviews and alwasy enjoy your videos. thank you!

Great video, Thomas and Thomas B. I have been excited for this car. You look so small next to this car. Those extra centimeters aren't helping, in this case. 😂 If I could afford this beauty, I would buy the long wheelbase version. 😍 So, I am a very patient person, but I would actually mind some of those power-operated bits. Not everything needs to be electronic, I believe. Seems cool initially, but after using it often, I will feel a massive sense of fatigue.

    Danke, Thomas!
Completely unrelated…there’s been a silver Mercedes GLK parked outside my house the past few days.
I told my wife that me and Thomas are both big fans of the GLK! My wife, not so much… 😝
    Still looks great, IMHO.

The Range Rover key is great - its much better than the L405 pre-facelift key (THAT was a cheap key, not to mention the keys for the L322 back then), it has a good weight, is well built and gives a perfect feedback on the buttons. It's the same as for the L405 facelift. I've had much worse keys for expensive cars in the past.

Great review. Very surprised seat ergonomics are not class competitive, especially for the $$$$. They "look" as comfortable as some of the new Volvo seats. Would you agree?
Not surprised about lack of steering feedback but it's still unfortunate. Like driving a tank or a land yacht. Perhaps some blame is due to the massive tires and air suspension. Land Rover would greatly benefit from Magna Ride shocks to control the suspension feel. Probably would help with steering feedback. as well.
If you wanted a sporty, playful Land Rover that's not skiddish when attacking a corner, would you say the Velar fits the bill? How is the steering feel? I need to watch your review on the latest model year. I'm waiting until a redesign with this new gorgeous minimalist interior.
Thanks again for your reviews. You're not afraid to tell it like it is, unlike many other popular auto publications. I also like your comments on leather interiors. I made a mistake with my current ride and it's the last time I buy leather. I'd rather have some kind of responsible wool blend or luxury grade cloth seats. Taking care of leather is also a pain in the a$$. Even a 200k Range Rover cant avoid jean dye transfer. You either have to clean it frequently or get a seat cover. What's the point of buying an expensive vehicle with beautiful seats if you have to sit on a seat cover to preserve them? Anyway, thanks again for your content.

Excellent video as always, Thomas. Thank you! One strange thing about the rear legroom: I just watched a test drive of the short wheelbase version by Bernd on Autonotizen. He is 192 cm tall (3 more than you) and when he sat in the rear, with the front seat set for himself, you can see he had a hand width of extra knee room. In his own words, "feudale Platzverhaeltisse". How could this be?

Different people have different body proportions. Some people have long legs (compared to their torso) and some have it the other way around. All of this factors into the driving position, along with posture and some personal preference.

I’m curious to know how popular Range Rovers are in Germany. They command respect in the US even though everyone’s aware that they’re quite unreliable.
What surprises me the most about the German car market is how much some buyers (secretly) love American cars. The number of Mustangs and Dodges I see in Germany is quite surprising.

Small cheap annoyances do creep up thought...
    - Buzzing when door handles come out,
    - Ugly Android looking icons on the "attached" looking screen
    - legroom us bad on the rear bench for the normal 5m(!) version
    - electro motors are slow, to noisy, and way overused

Great detailed review as always, thanks. I love this car, and especially the green and toffee configuration. Too many RR's are specced like pimp-cars. I accept that this car is not completely perfect in quality like an Audi, BMW or Mercedes. But it is so much more than these rather soulless and less charming cars. This is an icon, a unique experience and in this latest version, the most beautiful SUV!

I suspect that the over-electrification of the rear seats might be so that you can electronically fold them up and down with “one touch”. Doesn’t excuse the cup holder mechanism - I think that was designers going overboard trying to hide things to make the interior look sleek
