Perfect choice, can't wait to see it.
I'm glad this is being made. Despite often basing his games off of earlier arcade games he's always had a unique vision.
Jeff's story is very inspiring and I hope this collection can bring a lot of insight to younger gamers and creatives out there who should make their own art.
I'm absolutely freaking out. I love Jeff Minter's recent stuff (TxK and his take on Polybius are all time favorites) and I'm really excited to check out his home computer games without needing to get a dedicated set up.
Also, off topic, I'm pretty jealous of y'alls Sega Swing and Ice Cold Beer machines back there. Those are two grails to me.
I want a physical edition of this.
Retro Gamer says Limited Run will release physical copies. :)
@@unj Music to my ears😍
THIS! So amazing! I cannot wait to see the full list of games (I wish we could have them all including T3k for Nuon, Defender 2k, etc) and more importantly, cannot wait to dive into all this content!
T3k?
@@AutisticPhantomOtaku Tempest 3000. Only available for a short lived system called Nuon.
@@patrickjclarke Gotcha. Thanks!
I've never heard of Llamasoft until now, or any of it games for that matter. I'm definitely looking forward to getting this game. I hope it comes to the Nintendo Switch.
Also, 42 games?! That's more than what The Making of Karateka has.
I’ve been playing his games since the 8bit era and I can’t wait to experience this collection. Please release physical like you did with Atari 50 which is a magnificent achievement.🕹😎
oh my god! as a visual artist and multimedia designer of 20+ years, and also a DJ (also i'm a bay area resident, so hello digital eclipse and you've got a new local subscriber!) jeff minter is an absolute LEGEND to me and everything he's ever made is such a huge inspiration, and yet he's one of those people who i feel is vastly underappreciated in gaming media, and really deserves to be heralded way more than he even is. SO GLAD YOU GUYS ARE MAKING THIS COLLECTION! one day i still want to find a damn nuon player so i can play tempest 3000. ha. also i second a previous comment here - i would LOVE a physical edition of this.
2:30 when you get your marketing person to generate the video. Totally avoided all powerups.
YESSSSSSS! Please keep these Gold Master Collections coming, I’ll buy every single one! Absolutely the right way to do a “Criterion Collection” style treatment of games
Loving the Gold Master Series so far, Minter is a cool subject to dive into. Looking forward to it!
So excited for this release! Thanks so much for showcasing Minter's work. I was an original Atari Jaguar owner when it came out & loved Tempest 2000 - one of the best games on the system. Please release this physically for Switch.
I never could have imagined how the documentary form could fit into video games, but this is it. The focus on the creators turns what could just be a list of games into a meaningful journey. The only other team I’ve seen so dedicated to documenting gaming history is FarSight Studios. I’d love to see a collaboration with them for a Gold Master entry about pinball.
I recommend wholeheartedly to play Polybius and Moose Life in VR!❤
How did I not hear about this till today? I’m so happy to see the Atari ST finally getting some love I feel it was completely overlooked on the Atari 50th anniversary
It's unfortunate we were unable to add playable ST titles to Atari 50, but as you'll note from the timelines, we did discuss its place in Atari's computer history. It's not fair to say it was completely overlooked.
My badgering of Jeff must have gotten to him ;) Love this!!! Fingers Crossed for Iridis Alpha!
Amazing, and just in time for me unwrapping my Steam Deck on Christmas Day! If you are reading this Jeff, please do some game for the Steam Deck!
I cant beleive you got the Konix multi system game. That used to be all over game mag coverage back in the day then nothing.
Finally, my dad will be able to play Hover Bover again! 🎉
I thought this collection was too good to be true. I am so glad to see I was wrong. Thank you!!!
This is wonderful, thank you for doing this!
Firstly, it's great that Llamasoft are still making new games; I loved T4K and Akka Aarh (or akka aaarrgh, however it's spelled). I've so far missed out on moose life and polybius as I don't have a ps4, but still.
Secondly, I am absolutely looking forward to this release from everyone involved and the release date can't arrive soon enough! I already said on masto that I'm really pleased to see the ST getting some love from the Llamasoft perspective on this release (on switch too, I hope?) as Llamatron on ST is THE best version of the game (I'm guessing rude llamatron won't be included.. understandable. but the demo version of 'hardcore' would be welcome... just saying) and I'm really looking forward to playing their games on the the other formats,
Totally stoked for this and thanks to all involved for making it happen. 😀
May Llamasoft continue to make great games for many years to come.
I'm familiar with Jeff's work but I had no idea he was British, lol. This looks great btw! Can't believe nobody's thought to create gaming-related documentary in interactive form until now.
I prayed for this 🙏
This is awesome. I love how you guys shine a light on games and their creators that don’t quite get the reverence they deserve. Love y’all’s work, keep it up!
Wow that is a dream come true!
I was honestly expecting Prince of Persia to be next in the Gold Master lineup, but I'm genuinely intrigued by this, especially since I've never heard of this guy and his games before! I'll be sure to buy it as soon as it comes out! His games look so unique, and I love the playful sense of humor and fun in them, something that is sorely lacking in so many contemporary video games!
Love this. So glad you’re taking these projects from a feel good idea to a real tangible feel good product.
Funny, because I happen to come across this on an upcoming 2024 games list and immediately thought .. reminds me of The Making of Karateka, which made some best of ‘23 lists. And one I want to experience.
So my question is this:
Any plans to deliver this and/or Karateka to consoles, XSX or PS5?
I think if priced right, and good word of mouth, could sell a few to pocket some profits.
Really looking forward to this. The first video game I remember buying with my own money was Metagalactic Llamas Battle at the Edge of Time on the VIC-20, and I was hooked on Minter's games from then on. He was one of the first coders who people knew by name (certainly in the UK, at any rate), and it's probably fair to say that I might not have had my (25 years and counting) career as a game programmer if not for his influence.
Amazing person and great presentation. Will be awesome
Excellent. My first ever C64 games were Llamasoft - Gridrunner, Attack of the Mutant Camels and I think R.O.X. Would love to see more C64 stuff from Digital Eclipse. Would be amazing to play some of those games again without the need for clunky emulators and ROMS. Plus all the extras are amazing.
Very cool. I can't say I'm too familiar with Jeff Minter or his games, but I really enjoyed Atari 50 and Karateka, so I'm looking forward to discovering the games, the man, and the history. Please keep the Gold Master Series entries coming!
The clues were there, but I didn't catch any of them. Got me good. Excellent choice, genuinely excited for this!
YESSSSSSSS creator of tempest 2000 and more will buy this documentary collection
Can’t wait to play this. I’m not sure I’ve ever played a Llamasoft game, but I’ve heard about them all my life! I knew you guys were working on something cool…
YES!!!! VERY much looking forward to this…you guys are killing it!!
I've been hearing rumors of this for a while now, great to see that it's finally coming to fruition! Just curious if this will have any of the Minotaur Project games included, many of them were crazy fun but severely underappreciated.
Best news ever! #MayTheYakBeWithYou #Always
I’m going to annoyingly suggest again (beg?) that you pursue the d&d license and do the ssi gold box games after you’re done with wizardry!!! One of my digital eclipse dreams 😅
Can you make a physical version like what you did with the atari 50 collection
The purest example of "an auteur." Can't wait for this!
I'm so psyched for this!!!! More Minter!
This has made my day!
Really looking forward to this one!
it looks Great. If there is an opportunity, I hope they make a deal with WB and release the Midway game collection. Xbox Midway Arcade Origins will no longer be available for purchase at a later date. Because the Xbox 360 Store Will Close July 2024. I want to play the game legally, and I want to see the developer's history and secrets behind the development.
Maybe the speed run of this game will also come out
This looks great!
Mike, this looks AWESOME!
My god, I love this so much. What a wonderful choice.
The Konix! OMG!
Just got this. Bit of mixed feelings about it. What’s there is absolutely great; both concept and presentation and the ability to play these old games.
However I did not realize it would not include any games made after the early 90s. I guess I could have looked more into it before purchasing. Still bit of a disappointment for me personally because I was mostly looking forward to playing at least two or three of his later games.
It's Jeff's story as an indie developer, and the natural place to conclude the story was his mainstream success with T2K. Sorry -- this was not intended to be an exhaustive collection.
Here is my money, please take it.
No Defender 2000? Dang.
I wonder if this will include TxK from the PlayStation Vita or Polybius on PSVR. I would love to play TxK on PS4/PS5.
YES! YES! YES!
Damn s second Copy of Tempest 2000 on Switch?
Hopefully on Switch 😘
Mint me up.
Yeeeeaaahhhhhh
Nice
oh wow i can't wait to feel that much digital eclipsew brand 500-900ms input lag again
i'm dying for the input lag
i want to marry input lag
i want to cooooom input lag
Neat.
Now if only we could free Tempest 3000 from being stuck on the Nuon. XD
