Don't get rid of the very bottom you can cram those edges to make it smooth around the edges and you can spray painted and use it as a wall-hanging to put like Greenery in or a sign or something be really pretty
I really like how you explained everything. I got all the supplies to do the box but I got rustic wood contact paper I'm going to try on it. I'm trying to think of a way so I can take it apart to store away for next year. I'm limiting on space. I was thinking of not wrapping the paper around the edges & cut the edges were the sides meet & glued together. Do you have any suggestions???
Adding the contact paper would be a good idea and will save you time instead of painting. In order to take it apart for easier storage I would just put very little hot glue when you put the final side and top pieces together. It doesn’t need much to hold it in place and as long as you don’t have little kids that will be messing with it, it should hold in place as the material is very light. Another way would be to add duck tape just to hold the final side and top pieces in place. When you are ready to store it, just cut the tape and next year just use duck tape again to put it together. I found your video while searching DIY Christmas tree collars. And happy I did! I'd have never thought of using these items!
