- I was away from my guitar for a couple of weeks and I no longer have calluses on my fingers so I wanted something a little less demanding to build them up (although that keyboard solo after the first chorus wasn't such a good idea haha). Anyway, I love this song and this band and Tears for Fears were the first non-Lep cover I did way back in...whatever year it was. I covered Everybody Wants to Rule the World, the link is below. There's always some cool guitar work in their songs and I thought I would have a go at Leppardizing this just a little bit.
This version with the cool live snippet of Broken is the version I have always listened to so I couldn't leave that part out. I'd love to cover more and was going to do the solo from Shout but I think the guitars are tuned down two steps to D as there's a harmonic in there that I can't get in E.
'Leppardized' is my way of adding interesting guitar parts to a song that has little to no guitar in it, in an attempt to make it more like the Hysteria era of Def Leppard. Although really it is just an excuse for me to play over pop. :)

I called my wife out to watch this. Although we know the 80's well, neither of us realised how layered the keys & guitars were in the versus. Love how you really swing the rhythm parts, absolute perfection. Your feel & timing is superb.

I always loved the live version of Broken at the end. Such a catchy melody.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Triple M radio station in Sydney used to play Broken sometimes after Head over Heels and I would be ecstatic whenever they did. I didn’t think it could be improved on but as always, you took it to a new level. I hope Roland and Curt hear your version. I still have my LP after all these years and Songs From the Big Chair is definitely their best album. Broken is one of those songs best listened to loud and I love it at the end where there is the slightest of pauses then the crowd erupts. I just did silent applause to my cat and he gave me side eye. 😏🙄👏🏼

Thank you for FIXING this song! I'm old enough to remember when it came out. I understand you didn't want to turn it into a metal song. But... some of the new wave stuff, needed some beefing up.
I don't want it to feel like I fixed the song, I love Tears For Fears and this was just a chance for me to play over it and add some parts or bring out some of the keyboard parts on guitar. Thanks
@@bwm5150 Understand the respect for the songs. My thought was many of us who are muscicians hear a song, and go "Oh, we would have done this or that to it".
I don't know, I see songs as being like children of the artists. They are what they are, I don't think you can change them like that.
