- I swear I intended to make this video much shorter than the usual fare but as I played with the newly arrived Mafex Venom and Carnage reissued figures, I made some startling discoveries that now has me on edge regarding future second chances at missed grails.

Im really loving these longer videos. I appreciate that you dont rush through a figure or your thoughts about it. About the figures, it does blow that these seem to prioritize looking good than being great/functional figures

you have to heat the arm up on carnage, push the bicep down as hard as possible, then heat the upper part, press both parts together as hard as possible and then let it cool for half an hour. had the same issue with my original carnage and i fixed it
Doing anything “as hard as possible” is a huge no for me on a $100+ figure.
Unlike your Venom, my copy suffered from a loose right upper leg joint. It was the very first release. I managed to fix it by using a joint tightening solution.

I mean, is not like MAFEX has always been free of fault, I heard some horror stories about the TASM1 figure when it comes to durability.
I have both these reissues and have had no problem with them. Sorry you had issues with yours.
Are Re-Issued Mafex figures getting BETTER?? Because I hear they fixed the "backward" shoulders on the Mafex 185 Spider-Man reissue.
They also fixed the bicep connection on wolverine and the issue with cyclops where his leg would pop off.
My reissue Ben Reilly paintjob is a mess. Like seriously this could be my last time buying Mafex
The original was like this too both of the arms on mine fall off easily it sucks
I got reissue spider venom and carnage (which I just got today) and the only problem with them is that the neck of spidey the plastic around seems to be like too dulled so it doesn’t even connect to the body, now if I got very little clay I could fix it but I don’t have any, it still holds up the head in some positions but you can’t just move it. (Nail polish doesn’t work I’ve tried, the problem is like when you put the head in a figure and you hear the “pop” this doesn’t have it.
Seems like the SH Figuarts Venom figure isn’t the only one that’s more blue than black.
if it isnt a black blue shade it isnt correct to this translation like most others. I really wish other companies that make these figures would focus on a certain time instead of just making another variant thats not. I would love to see a Maximum Carnage wave from some company myself .
Superman hush and venom are the only reissues I bought, and I have to say that, at least for venom, I haven’t had any issues. It’s probably the sturdiest mafex i have. Meanwhile superman’s cape wasn’t tucked in right so it’s loose and i’ve had the general qc issues with various characters.
Are these available anywhere? Anytime I hear of a reissue they seem to be sold out😢

I feel like mafex really is slacking but most companies are in some way and they probably are seeing it as saving money to offer more products or have a longer stay . The fact that we Demand and continue to want some of these figures should be more than enough to offer new or better articulation that matches the sculpts . I really feel that after a certain price point they def should not be more pros than cons and offer more than dead on translations from my childhood fav comics .
The Venom and Symbiote Spidey are my Fav marvel figs besides the Lee & Claremont Xmen and now the Death and Return of Superman .
I am hoping that you do a Superboy video and a Cyborg Supes unless you did and I missed it . It is Superman so it's not your usual steez but maybe we will get lucky .

I bought 2. The first one had a chunk of paint missing in one eye. The second one had his rubber pants completely bent outa shape although I fixed it with hot water. Your so right the quality has gone downhill

My initial release carnage has the same issue with it popping off when posing and my left butterfly joint had a similar issue locking up but i just used hot water to loosen it back up and never had anymore problems with it.
does plaza japan have mafex 185 reissue
Mafex always changes the colors of paint used for their action figures when they reissue any product since Japanese laws prohibit companies from reissuing products without any changes.
Thats right the first issue has shiny black paint the second has matte. Most visable on the head
I had the OG release of Carnage. I bought the figure on the aftermarket. From what I know the initial release had an issue with the left arm popped off from the rest of the arm, more specifically the bicep joint. Could not do much with him but keep him posed 😢. But I heard about the reissue and copped him quick. I sold my OG and once I got my reissue Carnage I had an issue with both arms being really tight. I fixed it with some shock oil. Other than that the figure is super fun to pose around with. The QC issue with the left arm was fixed. No issues with the right arm. I have the original release of Venom. The only issue I had was swapping the heads out. The peg got stuck in the head. With some hot water and a string 😅 I got the peg out was able to attach it to the neck. Now swapping heads is more easier. I had the same issue with my Ben Reilly reissue.
I have the original carnage and the connections are a disaster on mine left foot slips right off (except the magnetic foot) the head also slips on and off on that joint and the right bicep peg also comes right off with the least amount of force,i have this last arm problem with my reissue spiderman classic colors and my drak knight as well SMH

I myself have gotten a few Mafex figures and not had any problems (Spider-Man, Magneto, Cyclops, and Gambit) and just today I picked up Carnage. Everything was going well, until I started to articulate the legs after a few minutes. The joints on the upper thighs are very tight. (Nearly the same as you have for the leg on Venom) To the point where I am scared to articulate them. I tried hot water and a hair dryer but neither worked. I ordered some shock oil and I’ll hope that fixes the problem. If anyone has experienced this and has any tips and tricks on how to fix this please let me know!
Edit: I just tried the arms again, and yeah. I can’t believe I’m saying this but I have the same problem with one of his arms. So one leg and arm are really tight, and the other arm and leg are also more tight than they should be.
Same issue on venom but i just used dish soap on the joints and moved it as much as it could, but it also works if you let it sit for a few hours so that the soap can throughly coat the joint. It has worked wonders for sure👍
@@saltypepper3178 thanks for the info! I have heard that some dish soaps can cause damage to the joints. Is there a specific kind you used or should they all work?

It's unfortunate that you don't know more about the characters, some ov the things said are very off . . . things like webbing color or how Venom actually released web (the white square on his hands) to comprehending Carnage's hand gestures and whatnot but it's a good video for showing quality or where its lacking.
I think the figures look VERY accurate for the 90s comics but, not having thigh swivel articulation is a fail on the companies behalf, speaking for us all when I say we need that movement for poses and whathaveyou.
Side note,I suggest a blow dryer for the sticking bits.
I don't really like their venom, i mean it's cool but he lacks height. Like he's almost as tall as spiderman, but carnage is good even if i heard stories of some people that have the right or left arm that falls off or the head articulation broken etc. That's why i got the revoltech carnage that is also the exclusive one, i also have the spiderman 2.0
I don't know why so many people have this inflated opinion of Mafex (and other import figures), like they are so much better than lowly Marvel Legends and McFarlane figure, etc. I'm pretty sure it's just because of the high prices of the imports. People tend to think that "Oh, it's so much more expensive so it must be better." Wrong! I've had several Mafex, Figuarts, and Figma action figures over the years, and I've ended up selling them all. Because in almost every case, I find the Hasbro and McFarlane figures to be better and more durable. Case in point, the Venom figure featured in this video. First of all the scale on it is terrible because it's too small to be Venom, and it has multiple QC issues, and it doesn't even pose all that well, and it costs around $100 (or more). Meanwhile, the Marvel Legends Deluxe Monster Venom that I paid $25 for is the correct size, it looks better, it has more articulation (like thigh and calf rotation and better ab crunch, etc) and it has zero QC issues (at least mine has zero). So why would I pay 4 times as much for the Mafax figure just because it's an import? Same thing with the Mafex comic Spider-Man. I had three of them thinking that it must be the best Spider-Man figure ever made, but I soon found that I preferred the the Marvel Legends Retro Card and RYV Spider-Man far better than the Mafax in both looks, durability and playability. So I sold off all the Mafex figures. And I also like my Hasbro Indiana Jones figure way better than the Figuarts version. So my advice is stop the mass insanity, save your money, and buy 4 Marvel Legends for the price of one import. That's just my personal experience. Others may think differently.
I agree. Mafex and S.H. are better in regard to paint and accessories than ML, just not $80-$100$+ better. If a ML is $20-$30, the others are or should be $40-55 better.
Ah man QC issues
How can you say quality and mafex when there's so much qc at that price? It's not acceptable in an Mand and certainly not at 80$. Ridiculous how some people look at things so subjectively and are blinded by their loyalty . And why should a reissue be normalized if there are issues? If anything reissues should fix the previous problems not make new ones!

good review, they look great but are out of rane for me, to pricy but these two remind me of the Monster Venom BAF wave from Marvel legends and even have similar accecoires and I think ML did Carnage way better, he rarely looks this smooth in the comicbooks and has mostly some tendrals around his neck,shoulders, arms and legs. His Cletus Cassidy head even looks to attractive and not as crazy as the ML version.
carnage looks this way because mafex based theirs off the og carnage appearances in comics, when his character was still new.
