I really need a BTS on how this was made. I'd never buy that this ran on an NES, but if you told me this was an unreleased game for DOS in like 1993 I'd have fell for it. Is it all 100% editing tricks like the intro said, or was a Wolf3D editor fired up at least once to make fake levels because seeing the geometry move seems so extremely advanced, especially considering that it's never straight line movement I struggle to believe it was all done with editing. I love how even though this is a silly fake game for an April Fool's video, the game itself has a really ominous vibe. There's just something about it that gives off the feeling of a weird old game that just feels really off. The dead silence combined with how hard it is to see and enemies occasionally having loud sounds that cut through the quiet as they barrell towards you is genuinely unsettling. Outside of Mario, this is both a completely believable terrible NES game with all the hallmarks of what one of those tends to look like, and a weird spooky game with ominous vibes.
Despite this being a fake game made for April Fools, I want to actually create an emulator cartridge that could run this travesty on a real NES. Is that even possible? Like, making all calculations and graphics inside the cartridge, and then using the NES to show it on the TV screen?

Did Civvie just make a better hellraiser then half the franchise as an April Fools
In fairness that isn't a high bar.

Actually a FPS of Hellraiser did exist from the early 90s', but never got released.
*Bookmark to return on Halloween*
The movie franchise really went off a cliff when they wanted Pinhead to be their Freddy Kruger.

Highlander 2 is the genesis of the Sean Connery Theorem, which states "Any movie with Sean Connery is at least watchable, with the exception of Highlander 2."
At least Highlander 2 jumps the shark so much the MC becomes a alien.
Nah, I find Highlander 2 to be very entertaining, Highlander 3 is just sorta alright if unnecessary the TV show has its moments. Then there is also the anime movie which is the best Highlander sequel.
Although, the rest of the franchise is very dire indeed.

ngl I wanna see the WAD for this Hellraiser NES April Fool's joke.
Civvie could've probably made a whole Wolf3D WAD for the purposes of an April Fool's joke.
The assumption I'll make is that the game seen is a bunch of levels made in something like ECWolf, or maybe even Game Maker, and that Civve probably showed us like 90% of the game, because only what was necessary was made.
The first boss is using sample sprites from the cancelled Wolfenstein 3D engine game as shared by an old Color Dreams employee, but other things in the game looks new.
It'd be cool if he made a behind the scenes video for this one.
@@0neDoomedSpaceMarine it's a real game, or a mod rather th-cam.com/video/k2xUsfaLh28/w-d-xo.html
i guess civvie or whoever took some assets and polished it up for their own version
@@0neDoomedSpaceMarine It would be cool, but Civvie doesn't break kayfabe.
@@visionofdisorder nah, some assets borrowed, and almost everything else was done from scratch using GZDoom targeted Doom editing tools.
For example, GZDoom can't do the dithered floor and roof fade textures like wot the Wolf3D engine does. So he chroma keyed it in in editing. Yes, really.
Patrons got a behind the scenes/making of as a 5k Patreon mini celebration thing and the level of work for an April Fools Joke (even if it has been in the making for a while - Doom eternal happened last year and got in the way) is really very impressive.
the john carmack meme is my favorite recurring joke ever, it just keeps getting better!
Are we not gonna bring up how Civvie calls Pinhead 'vanilla' _to his goddamn face_? That's balls if I ever saw 'em.
I heard that in the book, the pinhead character is described as smelling like vanilla and "an undertone of rot".
I got a hook too but old pinhead thought he drag me to hell... Cept being an all powerful king of demons i called his daddy Leviathan and well that was a rather unplesant talking... As that i mean a serious torture!
How Civvie made a HALLOWEEN CREEPYPASTA EPISODE on APRIL FOOLS DAY is beyond me.
The development and cancellation of this game is real, but the gameplay and everything else is made up.

Civvie has always been the most radical of dudes
I really need a BTS on how this was made. I'd never buy that this ran on an NES, but if you told me this was an unreleased game for DOS in like 1993 I'd have fell for it. Is it all 100% editing tricks like the intro said, or was a Wolf3D editor fired up at least once to make fake levels because seeing the geometry move seems so extremely advanced, especially considering that it's never straight line movement I struggle to believe it was all done with editing. The enemies and weapon stuff, certainly, but the texture-mapped geometry with a near perfect replication of raycasting is something I need to see how it was done with pure editing alone.
A bit late now, but on his patreon there is a video with a fairly high level making of.
EG, he doens't know Wolf3d editors very well, so he used GZDoom. GZDoom can't do dithered floor shading, so he made it green and keyed it out. Some assets came from existing mods, others original.
You don't have to pay much for Civvies Patreon and it has a very friendly private discord. Worth a couple of bucks a month I'd say.

a true hidden gem of the fps genre.
What a specific audience this appeals to. You are one talented creator.
To think this April Fools video was what got me into Hellraiser, and then subsequently feel the same pain Civvie does in regards to the sequels.
Civvie had such sights to show us.
How long underground did you spend to make this? The corridor 7 and Hellrasier stuff in wolf 3d is tearing my flesh off my face. I HAVE SUCH PIXALATED SIGHTS TO SHOW YOU.
I was expecting something like another Virtual Boy game, or Pro Faceball 2000 on the GB, but this is also pretty good.
This is without a doubt one of my favorite videos on youtube.
Marathoning the hellraiser films just puts me into a deep depression civvie. How dare you recommend this.
Technically Friday the 13th has more movies in the franchise than Hellraiser. There are 10 Hellraiser movies, Friday the 13th has 12

I think the only running joke in Civvie's vids I like more than "Nice Model," is the completely accurate titles he gives John Carmack
'Possible Third Kind Hiding in Synthetic Human Skin' John Carmack
John Carmack both exists and does not exist in multiple dimensions at the same time...the balance of time space teetering on the edge of an event horizon while John puts the universe in a rear naked choke
