    Illi is no joke! I live nearby where she rides and had to temporarily unfollow her Strava (sorry!) because my Garmin kept comparing my times with hers on Strava segments and she was way too fast for me! 🤣 Congrats on the record!!!

    100% Talent and 0% ego. How totally refreshing. Well done Phil for interviewing Illi.

      What the heck is wrong with having an ego?

      @@donwinston Good point, nothing at all is wrong with having an ego. A healthy amount of ego is part of good self esteem and confidence. Perhaps I should have said no excess of ego.

    Phil, absolutely wonderful interview. You are great at helping this obviously shy young person tell her story. She is so humble. Didn’t take it serious.

    Love how you ultra athletes can just giggle and laugh about your experiences knowing exactly how the bad it was for each other.

    I did that climb by 'accident', it had looked fine on the map... I remember grinding up, thinking 'this is not real'. I don't want to imagine doing that 73 times. What a ride.

    Thumbs up for wales, plenty of nice climbs and scenery here! The valleys and Brecon Beacons are a great place to start.

    Keep up great content Phil and speaking to people that are actually doing it.
    There are so many people on the Internet bagging people and brand bikes etc but your videos are refreshing and facts.
    Lots of pain on your channel though lol.

    Needs to get the ferry, Liverpool to Belfast, I'm sure u could bypass everyone and get on early and sleep, then next day it's a 120mile drive to Mamore gap in Donegal. We can easily compare then with Phil. Oh need to check wind direction as the men's record had a tailwind

    Illi is a little sheepish, but has loads of inner steel (titanium, carbon fiber, whatever). I want to attempt the super-Clydesdale division, so Phil can marvel at my burger intake during the ride.

  • @markbentley4343
    @markbentley4343 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So I didn’t really do any training, I didn’t eat much, I took it easy on the descents, took the training bike.. How do you feel Phil? 😉

    • @chrisko6439
      @chrisko6439 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah, with better setup, better conditions and faster descending, she could shave 30 minutes off this record. At least. According to her stava file, her top speed on the downhills was 38mph/60kph which is insanely low on this kind of gradient.

  • @benthilwind6908
    @benthilwind6908 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I still feel the best everest attempt in England would be sky Rd (Holmfirth Rd) straight out of staley Bridge upto the plaims then back down, think its a 5 mile run up and down average 15-20%

    • @benthilwind6908

  • @larrylem3582

    About 40 minutes off of Phil's time. Beat Phil!!!

    • @ChrisP978
      @ChrisP978 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      She was easily losing 30 seconds on each descent because it was narrow and blind and had to be on the brakes. She has the potential to go a lot faster, sub 8 even on the perfect hill on the right day!

    • @chrisko6439
      @chrisko6439 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChrisP978 Sub 8? Easy for her with that form/climbing ability. She coulda done that on that day if she was taking more risks. If she would do it on Mamore Gap like the male record holder with huge tailwind and proper setup (skinsuit etc.) 7:30 is possible. There is not much of a point in choosing such a steep climb if you have to break on the downhills, which makes her record even more amazing.
