Golden Rare Country. 🎼💞🎵🎸🎵 Statler Brothers. Favorite cowboys video. Thank you very nice write up .great cowboys prayer. Happy Trails To All . 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Thanks for posting this, John! This great song was written by Statler Brothers tenor, Lew Dewitt, who I inherited as a best friend when I married his buddy, Garvey Winegar. I have a recording Lew made for me on a cassette (along with 15 other tracks), which I digitized myself many years ago by copying it to a CD, which I just found when going through some old recordings. However, the CD quality is not very good. If I can find the original compact cassette, I'll get it digitized professionally and share it here.
Love this Statler gem, "The Strand"-- I can relate totally to my trips on Saturday to the movies. ---Audie Murphy, ---Roy Rogers, --Randolph Scott--etc.
I sat on the front row. The Saturday Matinee stated with "The Star Spangled Banner" by the West Point Orchestra. The waving on screen and EVERYONE stood up with hands on the their heart. This was followed by The Pathe News. next a Travelogue. Then, at last, The feature My favorite was Lash LaRue. Now a serial , followed by another feature. Could even be Charlie Chan. The cost in 1950's was 9 cents. We got the money to go by knocking on doors and asking for bottles to return to the store. 2 cents for an average bottle 5 cents for a quart bottle or milk bottle. We tried to get enough for candy, 5 cents or popcorn 10 cents. We could also trade a large Rockfish or 4 weakies for admission. A couple in their 80;s ran the place and knew us well. Interestingly, my dad had to pay 10 cents in the 20's! The Statlers shook my memories. I was 9 years old then.
Back in the '70s when I was in high school we lived in a house that was once occupied another other group who called themselves The Kingsmen and had a hit with a song named Louie, Louie.
I have never seen this video before. Great video clips to back up the song. In the song, "Do you remember these," one line goes: Saturday morning serials, chapter 1-15. I also thought that this line was wrong, since I used to see the serials as the last item on the matinee. But some theaters did have an early show, with ten cartoons, a western and a serial. How neat the one guy has the Roy Riders Club coin. I still have my original membership card preserved in limination.
To every silver cowboy who rode the silver screen Do you remember ridin' through the strand And do you remember me I'm the front row kid Who galloped right behind you 'til the end And saved your life so often by callin' out your name When it looked like Blackie had the upper hand We saved towns and ranches in spite of threats and rain While stayin' safe and dry inside the Strand The Strand it was a fortress in the heart of town It's marquee proudly boasted out you name Sendin' out a message to youngin's all around And each and every Saturday we came We came to watch our hero's ride the silver screen In hot pursuit of Blackie's outlaw band I wish that I could walk up to that ticket booth again And buy just one more ticket to the Strand But our town is changin' and it seems we need A parking lot to help our town expand Today I learned a lesson, like you I must be brave Today I learned their tarein' down the Strand I wish that there was somethin' Fellow's we could do One more effort before we disband We've saved those towns and ranches And now before we're through Seems we ought to try to save the Strand But they say it's over and I guess it's true They'll park their cars where horses used to stand I'll try to use the courage that I learned from you Every time I think about the Strand And If I could live life over there's much that I would change And possibly I'd be a different man I'd follow many different trails but one would stay the same And that's the one that led me to the Strand That happy trail that led me to the Strand

I was 10 in 1950 and have so many happy memories. With what is going on now, I grieve for the America of my childhood.

To every silver cowboy who rode the silver screen
Do you remember ridin' through the strand
And do you remember me I'm the front row kid
Who galloped right behind you 'til the end
And saved your life so often by callin' out your name
When it looked like Blackie had the upper hand
We saved towns and ranches in spite of threats and rain
While stayin' safe and dry inside the Strand
The Strand it was a fortress in the heart of town
It's marquee proudly boasted out you name
Sendin' out a message to youngin's all around
And each and every Saturday we came
We came to watch our hero's ride the silver screen
In hot pursuit of Blackie's outlaw band
I wish that I could walk up to that ticket booth again
And buy just one more ticket to the Strand
But our town is changin' and it seems we need
A parking lot to help our town expand
Today I learned a lesson, like you I must be brave
Today I learned their tarein' down the Strand
I wish that there was somethin' Fellow's we could do
One more effort before we disband
We've saved those towns and ranches
And now before we're through
Seems we ought to try to save the Strand
But they say it's over and I guess it's true
They'll park their cars where horses used to stand
I'll try to use the courage that I learned from you
Every time I think about the Strand
And If I could live life over there's much that I would change
And possibly I'd be a different man
I'd follow many different trails but one would stay the same
And that's the one that led me to the Strand
That happy trail that led me to the Strand
