I was born in 1970 in Los Angeles County. I remember the 80's being crazy in LA. It was no joke down by the coliseum at that time. Calm on gameday usually, but it was an absolute teenage, young adult warzone for 5 miles or more in any direction you looked. When crack hit? Forget about it. A generation of kids raised themselves is what essentially happened. it's a survival instinct to want to fit in at that age. Kids got the love they didnt get at home from the gang, and when you're 12,13,14 years old, you're longing for that love whether you know it or not. They found it within the gang, or so they thought. What a fucked up, violent cycle. We lost a generation of black kids in Los Angeles in the 80's. That's my take on it. I'm not from the LA gang culture.. but am one with the night. Have thrived amongst chaos. Respect to Kev for getting the monster series up. Long time coming. But Cutes OG is my favorite amongst all the interviewees. Not only does he have knowledge of yall history.... But is a solid brotha who we can show our youngins even on the east coast what a real man is. It's even inspiring to see his mission of trying to help the youth. I've been of a similar mindset in DC where I started programs at rec centers to change what my hood engages the opposition hood in... adding 7 on 7 football and 3 or 3 basketball etc... But still I dont speak to the active youth whose brother may gave been killed by the other side in an unrealistic way. Cutes OG seems the same way. 10 toes down. Reputable.
