I got to Drive an Old Relic up at the Railroad Museum in Monticello, IL. Climbing up the outside ladder was a Lot of Fun. It was well worth Donation. 👍🙏

my wife and i picked up The Crescent in Atlanta last fall and we loved the depot and the scenery to NOLA and back. i love knowing that The Crescent has such a long history
6901 also went around Stone Mountain a great number of times as a part of the New Georgia. There is even some footage of her passing by the railroad's shop complex posted here on TH-cam. 6901, and the Stone Mountain Scenic Railroad's own locomotives, Southern Railway 6147 and 6143 were shedmates on the New Georgia. With the 01 returning to the Atlanta Chapter and 43 and 47 going to Stone Mountain at the conclusion of operations. Like the 01, both 43 and 47 received mechanical upgrades, with freshly rebuilt 645E's, new generators, aux gens, air compressors, 26L brakes and Dash 2 electrical controls. Interesting that three of these 1950s era locomotives are all still in service and can be found operating in the Atlanta area. Although 43 and 47 are not museum pieces and still sing for their supper. Be nice for the 6901 to go back out to Stone Mountain. Let her actually do a little work and pull some trains. Seeing her run at Southeastern is kind of like seeing a battleship in a bathtub. Wonderful content, as always!
I wonder how long it takes for it to stretch out and reach it's top speed of 99 MPH on modern main line type trackage although I'd bet it hasn't been above 60 MPH since it's restoration, if that. Interesting and well done video!!
I enjoyed this video immensely. During my childhood I rode many miles all over GA going to visit relatives. My Dad worked for Southern RR so we rode free. There's nothing like traveling on a train.
Exactly what i was thinking. It's sad watching it put around on a branchline when Amtrak roars right past it on the mainline. Sure it's not as reliable as modern engines so it would be a reliability. And sure it might not be as powerful as the modern engines. But if they stopped that express and let the old engine couple on you know it could still pull that express with pride
These are hands down my favorite diesel electric locomotives. The round nose and tilted windows just make me feel good. I wish the passenger train industry was still prevalent in the us because you know there would be some really cool trains. The tuxedo paint job is perfect too in my opinion.
The last of the Southern F units were a handful of FP7s. They were assigned to work trains out of Pegram. A few months after CR, many of these FP7s were sent to Amtrak(Chicago) during the blizzard of 77. Amtrak needed power. The Fs were not in good shape and Southern turned them down. My buddy caught a bunch of them in Cincinnati, going back to SR. I caught 6132 with my friend at Sharonville,,,derailed too! All the others had left either that morning or the night before. 6132 didn't make it, but it's sister 6133 still survives.
I enjoyed the old F7ABA lash-ups and even had a geep or two on the trip during the early parts of my career……did I mention they were warm in the winter…..even that old 24rl being a bit odd on the right…..good day-good engine~~~

Like in Canada ,, Many major Station Stops closed and removed ,, very saddening ,, I'm so surprised ,, but again ,, not that shocked ,, wonderful major stations are closed , many with these new siemans locomotives ,, new major stations will open again ,, since they seem to be energy efficent ,,, all the best ,, keep on keepin on
I like how she still has the switch box for her long since removed mars light. Also if my memory is correct 6901 was originally painted black and white and was numbered 2924.

It makes me mad how many of the stations built in the 1900s have been torn down. Fortunately up here in Cincinnati we are one of the lucky few cities to still have it standing although Norfolk and western did actually want to tell it down and toy down the passenger concourse.

Given the Georgia tradition of preserving the past, it amazes me that some of the historic buildings have Benn confronted with the wrecking ball. Shameful!

The 6902 that was used by New Georgia was a former New York Central engine that was acquired and remembered to fall in line with 6901. The engine later went to the Tennessee Central Railway Museum upon the liquidation of the New Georgia in the early 90’s and has recently been sold within the past year or so to CaterParrott Railnet which operates out of Madison GA (about 1/3 of the way between Athens and Macon). It has since been renumbered to 5000 by them.
It's strange. The old E and PA units had something in the esthetics that made them beautiful and comforting to look at. They could bring them back. The modern locomotives are ugly as hell. They could employ some of the general architecture of the E units (or even the PA) and create something beautiful.
It would be nice if these trains were road legal. I know what I said😈😈😈😈😈 That way, ignoring weight limits, one can pass through many different places and not get bored.
I.would noy.watch a sinful.show such as Walking Dead, although I had failed in that regard in the past. I try to eliminatr sinfulness from my eyeballs so does not pollute my mind. Now Locomotives and rail roads.are enjoyable to.me.
If Biden has his way we'll be going back to the old steamer's and we'll all be heating our homes with Soler panels and riding horse and buggy to get around and paying a fart tax on the horses

Being a child from the 40's, I remember the streamliners very well. Very nice.

First thing that caught my eyes in the cab was those crank up windows and wing windows. Reminds me so much of the cars I grew up driving.

I believe there's 4 Southern E8s still in existence all together. Would be very cool if they could be together in one place like NCTM.

These are ex-Tennessee Railway engines, though it looks like they did use the same scheme as the Rutland.
