I Joan was watching your video yesterday and you where talking about kale and how bitter it taste.
When I cook collard, mustard, and Turnip greens and I add some apple cider vinegar and sugar and the vinegar soften them up, makes them tender and the sugar take away the tart.
I use about four caps of vinegar and about four Table spoons of sugar or to your desired taste, try it and you will be surprised.
I enjoy watching your videos 💜

Your new raised beds are looking good! Talk to me about deer! Ugh! My one garden had pumpkin vines, tomatoes and pepper plants taste tested! I went out and wrapped string and tucked branches around the whole area and the doe has stayed out. She apparently doesn't like brassicas🤣
This is first year I grew collards and Swiss chard. It has to be an acquired taste and know how on cooking them. The collards were ok, but chewy and not a fan of chard. To us it tasted like a pond smells.
It must be nice to have your long growing season. I struggle to do fall crops because of short growing season of 130 days or so. The fall zucchini last year was able to give 2 squash b4 frost hit, but I missed the vine borer!😃 Zone 5a WI. We finally had a good rain today b4 heat sets in.
Yikes on the snake. No way could I use straw mulch there--eek!
My beans are having a problem learning how to climb. Silly things.
Listening to you expanding your garden sounds like you have a long growing season that sounds so foreign to me--Very blessed.

This may sound weird but one of the reasons I wanted to start gardening was to face my phobia I have of snakes. I don't even know where the phobia came from. I literally cannot stand to even look at a picture of a snake. So glad you put the warning up at the beginning of this video. I have a nice size backward and started container gardens all around. This is my second year gardening and I am so in love with it. But some days I literally cannot step into my backyard because of the anxiety of seeing a snake in my gardens. My neighbors compliment on my garden and the vegetables and flowers I have but if they only knew what it is taking me to go out there they would think I am crazy. I feel so silly sometimes when I ask my husband to come in the backyard with me. I am truly considering going to therapy for this because I love nature and it is getting in the way of me enjoying the life and beauty of being outside.

    • @tessmackey9201

I was outside in my backyard tending to my grow bags with potential veggies I planted BUT I GOT TO RETHINK some things... a black snake come crawling in the grass about 2ft from my feet I screamed SNAKE and ran back in the house...I said I just can't...now I've seen sooo many snakes in my yard and I still try and grow things...But I'm Really NOT good at seeing snakes crawling around my feet.I have planted corn, peppers, tomatoes and skycraper sunflowers.I have to pump myself up.I have flower/plants containers for years but this spring I started planting seeds for veggies and fruit. I live in South Florida zone 10b these snakes are ALWAYS OUT DAY EVENING AND NIGHT.

I am so impressed with your garden. It's so lush and green. I live with roommates so the yard isn't mine to do with as I see fit, but a smaller version of what you've got would definitely be a goal for me. Most of mine is going to be a container garden... anything I put in the ground gets crushed by their animals outdoors.
I've lost seedlings to the heat too... I just keep planting, eventually it will cool off to a point where it all will blossom and give us a bumper crop. I just stay positive and hopeful.

T-post diver. We eventually got one when we moved here to do our cattle panel trellis as well. We were using a sledgehammer but after constantly moving our chicken fences it became a necessity. We do the same when a snake or animal threatens our food supply as well. If we find a snake that is not near our animals then we just relocate it. The Garden is coming along nicely. Please buy a “snake grabber” tool from Amazon. It has a very long arm & strong grip. Better than swinging an axe on your chicken coop! The snake would probably found its way out by morning. Glad you didn’t reach in to get the eggs. If I don’t get eggs during the day, I make sure I have a very bright flashlight or headlamp. So not reaching into darkness!! Also if you put a couple ceramic eggs (sold at Tractor Supply) in the nesting boxes, if the snake eats them, it will not be able to digest and will die. Occasionally sometimes they can regurgitate them, but most often it kills them. Lastly, the best thing is to snake proof the coop so nothing can get in. Not always possible. I know when we go away for a few days, I leave the door to the coop open so the girls can come out to eat / drink. Stay safe! 🙏🏽❤️

I have about 8 1000 Head kale plants and they have been growing since March. I eat it everyday and it's delicious. Mine were eaten up a few weeks ago (like yours), but they are coming back. I got that wild morning glory too! It was a joy seeing your garden.

Once they get going they are very. prolific! I’ll slow those bugs down with BT and start new seeds. I’m so glad you enjoyed yours and that they are coming back! I stir fried them with the yellow zucchini and it was delicious! Happy gardening friend!🌱

When we first moved to our homestead a large snake was sunbathing on our porch. I love snakes and grew up catching them but it caught me off guard. I eventually caught it and took it to the creek. My husband was not happy with me because I could’ve been bitten. After letting it go my husband informed me it was venomous. I was confident in me catching it but totally understood why he was upset. I wouldn’t advise doing this if you haven’t had some training.

SANDRIA...non-venomous or not, that snake had to GOOOOOO!!! I thank God that neither one of y’all were hurt in any way and that you detected it’s presence before reaching your hand in there! I’m going to have look into getting some of those yellow zucchini seeds. They look so delicious and that’s while they’re still on the vine 😆. Keep up all of that BEAUTIFUL work out there fam and stay blessed!

Please try the yellow zucchini it is fantastic! Many blessings to you, your family and garden! Stay safe my friend! 🙂🌱

Thanks for another wonderful video, Sandria. We see snakes pretty regularly on our homestead but luckily, not in our coop... yet. We are not sure how your family feels about hand guns but we have two .22 revolvers dedicated for snakes, etc, loaded with snake shot/rat shot. It is a safer way to dispatch snakes and mice, if necessary.
The garden looks great. A good point about not leaving bare earth for the weeds to spring up. We didn't do well in that regards in some spots this year. Have a safe and wonderful week.

Your zucchini looks so good! The butternut squash is a good idea too. I’ve also done butternut squash and it ended up being really prolific - way more than I expected. We had to find some good recipes to make use of it all.

I am so scared of bugs, especially spiders. I want to start a backyard garden badly, but I’m not sure there’s anyway to keep me from bolting at the first sight of little critters. 😵‍💫

I'm going to have to look for yellow zucchini seeds! Your garden is beautiful and bountiful! The spider might be going after a harmful bug. Finding that snake was so scary!
