Mahalo loa no kēia polakalamu! I was brought to tears watching this, I’ve never heard Hawaiian spoken so conversationally. I shared this with my wife and daughter, who were on the fence about trying to learn Hawaiian. They were entrances by this program, it was so entertaining, but also it was just so beautiful to hear our mother tongue spoken like this. I showed it to my father as well, he was brought to tears and remembered the struggle to take us home and name us rather than putting a name on the birth certificate, and what a challenge that was. Please, make more of these. Excellent direction, acting, love the Drunk History homage, fun to watch and an awesome way to learn Hawaiian!
Mahalo no ke wikio! He apana Hawai'i au. He mea nui ka olelo hawaii ia'u. I am still learning the language, and it is difficult to learn it in North America, where finding a Hawaiian speaker is like finding a needle in a hay stack, so learning it is difficult with no one to practice with.
Please help anybody who can. I really wanna learn hawaiian but I live in Southern California and I’m having trouble finding a teacher. I’ve read some books on the Hawaiian language like Ka lei haʻaheo but I still feel like theres a huge gap in my learning. I feel like a language teacher or at least someone to speak with would help a lot. I know Kamehameha sponsors online classes but I’m hoping to have someone physically present so I can practice with them even after the class. I really wanna help preserve the language of my culture so any help would really be appreciated. E ʻoluʻolu ʻoukou. Kokua ʻoukou iāʻu. Makemake au e aʻo ka ʻōlelo hawaiʻi aka noho au ma Kaleponi. The hawaiian language has such an elegant, flowing sound, thanks to its minimalist phonology. It sounds like refreshing water.
