This was so good. I'm learning Hawaiian through DuoLingo and they don't really explain the grammar rules at all. They just throw an "i" in in there an expect you to figure out why. This helped me so much. Mahalo!

Thanks. I've been using Duolingo and I don't know why they won't explain grammar more. It would make things a lot easier to know some basic grammar.

Mahalo plenty. I am 76 yrs old, kupuna, and belong to Hawaiian Civic club but you have taught me so much in just 3 lessons. Left home at 18 yrs, grew up hearing Hawaiian, those words I know, putting them together is another thing. My mo'opuna want to learn Hawaiian with me for a long time but I never found one that I liked for them. For this generation to have continued interest. They do that duo lingo but there just words, how do you use them? We start tomorrow with my two 16-17 year olds. I think they'll like you alot. I know I do. We have regular ukulele lesson and I think they are ready to do 'olelo Hawaii. And ditto to what everyone has already said. Mahalo, mahalo, mahalo. Ukulele Tutu

Thank you so much. I’m Hawaiian on my dad’s side, and since he passed away when I was a baby and I grew up in Minnesota, learning Hawaiian is so important to me because I feel so much closer to knowing my dad and also closer to home and my ancestors. I’m writing up a google doc to study from with vocab lists/examples/practice exercises from your videos (so far I only have stuff from this one, since I just started!) so if anyone wants access to the doc lmk!

Like many others here in the comments secrion, I am also learning through Duolingo. This grammar explanation is a necessary and helpful supplement to Duolingo. Or rather, Duolingo is a good supplement to this lesson. Now that I have the concept, drilling on Duolingo is less confusing. Thank you so much for this excellent lesson!

You are such a great teacher. I am also learning, Arabic and I just found out that the subject goes after the action too/ or that the sentence structure starts from the end and goes to the beginning, while writing it. It’s very confusing, but this is so cool to learn Hawaiian as well and know that there is action first.

I am so glad I found your channel, what has been confusing for me about learning Hawai'ian is the unpredictable in Duolingo it is sometimes the same as the English and other times a sentence will be odd if literally translated so my struggle is knowing when this occurs.
Grammar concepts are confusing in American English, so understanding them in other languages is hard for me.

hi, this is someone being via other materials in hawaiian language, is there any in hawaiian that is equivalent to participles in english?
and is there a subjunctive mood? or just a conditional?
and how to negate future tense verbs?
