A quick review of the Veritas Variable Burnisher. A great tool that helps make card scraper sharpening a breeze.

Recently bought the Veritas Variable Burnisher as well since I"m using card scrapers regularly.
It sometimes is a real pain in the ass to get a good burr on the edges.
Well Iet me assure you with this nice burnisher this problem is history.
Thanks for the tip on using the oil from behind the ear. i used to just wash that away. Repurposing rules!
Welcome!
Nice timing. I just happen to pick one up from an annual tool swap in my area. I'm use to standard burnishers. But figured I might as well try it since it was only two dollars. No scraper though. Thanks for showing me it will be effective :)
diycentral Great price! I've sharpened another card with it since. Works great.
A sharp card scraper is great for qtr sawn material and now I want to get the burnisher because i agree, sharpening is a pain!
save your money,,,i have tried and tried and this will not put an edge on a scrapper reguardless of what they say on here
Great, another tool I want to get now...
***** don't tell the wife!
That's were the separate "off shore" bank account comes in handy lol
I'm trying to decide between a card scraper and a Veritas Cabinet Scraper Item 05P3205. Anyone have an opinion?
If i had to choose i'd go with the card scraper but the cabinet scraper is a fantastic tool! Find a good quality like the no. 80
Cool tool review.
Jared English thanks!
I did it just like that and it didn't work for crap
Get a can of 3 in 1 dude.!!! Stop harvesting 'ear lobe oil'.......
haha! Will do!
How can you tell what side you're sharpening, left or right? You can turn it 15 degrees to the left or right, but there's no indication which way that tilts the burnisher inside the plastic housing. I mean, when I'm done I can figure out which one works best, but I'm always guessing! And I'd like to finish by saying I don't find the tool to be all that effective, I had about the same success rate using a screwdriver shaft. In other words sharpening card scrapers is still a pain in the neck.
Great review and thanks all the way from Sydney, Australia in 2019! Tomorrow I will purchase one of these. Great workshop too - I'm about to upsize my work area and am particularly interested in other shops. Cheers and thank you - Dave
I did get one and the narrow honing guide from veritas :)
***** awesome!
