new sub, enjoying all your reactions/reviews. I'm 40 years old, and kurt cobain was a big inspiration to me in my teenage years. It was a true privilege seeing them live on their 1993 tour, Nirvana was electrifying live, cobain was flawless on guitar, singing, it was an incredible era that will stand the test of time.
When "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was released, it was like someone opened a window and a blast of cold, clean air blew into a stuffy room filled with stale smoke. Or like taking a swig of whiskey after drinking cheap wine. Shocking in the best way.
Don’t analyze Kurt’s lyrics too seriously.. he has stated several times that he purposely wrote stuff that doesn’t makes sense and much of it doesn’t really have significant meaning
Kurt also often said; “when there is not a good answer, make up a good lie” Kurt was a humble guy and didn’t like explaining his lyrics in interviews. He was also heavily inspired by the writer William S. Burroughs and Kurt’s lyrics show that. Kurt purposely made a lot of lyrics abstract to be left open for multiple interpretations

spaceghost27 that’s revisionist history. Mainstream rock was huge all through the 80s and the first half of the 90s, including when Nevermind came out. There were many different types of sub genres of rock/alternative/metal, and all relevant in American society and culture, including 1991.

Nirvana Speed/Thrash Metal Album Side 1 1. Mr. Moustache 2. Breed 3. Milk It 4. Territorial Pissings Side 2 5. Tourettes 6. Negative Creep 7. D-7 8. Downer
Kurt Cobain used to write lyrics literally before he would go in the vocal booth. I don't think there's a "correct" interpretation of his lyrics. He was an instinctual artist that captured his emotion in the moment. Your interpretation of the lyrics is just as valid as anyone else.
Love ur reviewing style period as a true follower of Kurt I respect you not cause you like nirvana but because of your personality and perspective on things, and I actually learned something from a video in a long time etc. much love
@@tedthethird_ Incesticide was good, at least side A, because side B was a compilation of rarities from Bleach era and outtakes from Nevermind (side A) and Bleach (side B). This review is fantastic. There is a slew of music reviewers/reactors that are so boring to watch. But this is different and I can tell from this video alone that you are a free thinker and it's great to see that in people my age, because it feels like everyone is the same these days. Thanks
Fame is what destroyed Cobain. He never wanted it, and he wasn’t prepared to handle it. He wasn’t the first artist that suffered that fate. Certainly not the last. Sometimes people are just driven to be heard, and then the attention consumes them.

Great review and interpretation. It makes you appreciate what a genius Cobain truly was, and how tragic it is that his life and career were so short. I’d love to hear what you think about Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins.
How to decode a lot of his writing: he was inspired by the writing of a band called the Pixies. He writes one line then the next line he makes fun of his own thought. To keep balance between depth and sarcasm. It’s was his insecurity and humor. Constantly contradicting. Many people will tell you they know exactly what he talks about. Truth is, only he knew which parts were the truth and which a joke. He never shared that with his band either I believe. But if you keep this in mind, you’ll be able to hear what he means a lot better.
