I grew up in Reno. I've lived most of my adult live in other places. Reno/Sparks is still home in my heart.
The main reason for people to NOT move to Reno is that they have made the cost of housing too high for me to go home for good. 😉
I agree, gambling is like any other tourist thing; it's something locals generally do when they have company from out of state.

That totally makes sense, but the biggest difference is that we have water..... and will not be running out of water within the next 5-15 years. We have an environment that sustains the outdoors, lake life, and hiking/biking whenever you want. Northern Nevada is the best of all worlds!!!! On top of 300+ days of sunshine. Shoot us an email if you're thinking about heading this way.

These vids are very helpful! Have you considered doing an episode on medical care there? I hear there is tremendous shortage of doctors in Vegas, how about in Sparks/Reno? Carson City? Also heard mostly Physician Assistants seeing patients and difficult to find MDs who accept Medicare? Where would someone go for something serious, like Cancer care?

I am thinking of moving to Carson City or Reno and buy a house/ town home. Before asking your thoughts I will give little background: Not only I like outdoors and outdoor activities but I also like local coffee shops there you can sit and read a book, a town with cozy atmosphere and nice architecture. I don’t like night life and noise, but I like to be able to socialize. When I open my windows in the morning I like seeing a good scenery, having the fresh air. First of all is either Carson City or Reno metro like that? Also which one would you recommend? Are there cute small towns around similar to Sedona or Flag staff? Is Tahoe road hard to drive entire winter or only some weeks? I have briefly been in Carson and Reno ( less than a day). I found Carson downtown cute. I was thinking moving Carson or Reno but also Visalia, CA because it is close to Sequoias but the air is polluted in Visalia and it is in a valley, not high altitude like Carson. Is the air quality good in Carson/Reno area?

I've lived in Reno for half of my life....The weather is high desert with the Sierra Mountain being a bit cooler, but you get snow. Occasionally, Reno gets major snowstorms dumping over two feet. Housing is getting more expensive, no thanks to Northern California...The economy this time around is somewhat better than Las Vegas, but not by much. Food is decent, you got some decent Mexican, Asian, and other restaurants. You got a variety of outdoor activities; hunting, fishing, boating, and other things. Gambling is somewhat like a smaller version of Las Vegas. The best Casinos being the Peppermill, Atlantis, and the GSR. The ROW is okay.
I will say that Downtown Reno has severely degraded over the last couple of years...UNR is fairly okay, but you should stay on campus.
Public transportation is practically not existent. You do need a car and gas prices are going up again...

We are in our 30s, I think it would be a really fun and beautiful place to enjoy a good quality of life and raise kids or dogs at the very least 🤣. I live in New York, but have been to Reno several times during my trips to Burning Man and I love the Reno area. Every time im there I want to spend an extra week there because it's like living there for a week at a time. I lived in the Atlantic City, NJ area for a couple seasons and Reno feels like a western version of AC. Instead of the Atlantic Ocean, Lake Tahoe is nearby. The people are much friendlier in Reno then NJ and it doesn't die out there at the end of the summer like AC. I've thought about moving to Reno someday but never took the idea very seriously though.

Reno is by far the worst place I've ever had the displeasure of wasting 2 years of my life in. The cost of living is ridiculous, spent over 15 dollars on chicken nuggets and a drink, like WTF! The traffic here sucks, people here don't know how to drive, homeless people are everywhere, there is no ethnic diversity, which is no surprise for a city that used to keep blacks out, weather is never good despite it being known as the "city of outdoor activities," winters here are brutal, customer service sucks, there is literally nothing to do because it's a tiny city. For people moving here to escape the big city, you don't know what you're getting yourself into, it has practically all the big city problems; shortage of supplies, terrible traffic, homelessness everywhere and air pollution. The biggest little city in the world, more like the Shittiest dumpster hole in the world.

Having lived in or near Reno for over 30 years, here are mine.....
    1) Government has been getting more and more communistic as time goes on. Taxes are much higher than they used to be and there's less personal freedom.
    2) They've done a pretty fair job of cleaning it up but there are still plenty of bums around.
    3) If you're a single guy, especially if you're older, the dating pool is basically nonexistent.
    4) The cost of living is getting ridiculous.....see #1 above. Especially housing.
    5) Parking downtown is pretty bad.
    6) I'm not sure about anywhere else but there seems to be more aggressive drivers than ever before. The Highway Patrol needs to stop writing speeding tickets and go after drivers that are an actual hazard.
Don't hear the wrong thing though, Reno and the outlying areas are pretty good places to live but it'd be even better if these issues were addressed.
